Nikki, thank you for doing this! As a reservation holder and a fan of Aptera, this makes it worth the wait! Amazing! Absolutely Amazing! The future is bright! The future is Aptera!
@@blankblank4642 Haha, you're kind of right lol. And even if they quickly start looking dated after newer models come in... this will have that retro-futuristic style that many 60s cars have now. (And it'll always be pretty dang aerodynamic.)
By the time of the X-Prize i'd definitely started to get more interested in the Edison2, but that project seems to have stalled out itself now so I'm back on the three wheel hype train. It's fucking hard to start a mass production car company from scratch even with fields full of cash.
Started with the old 109bhp leaf, and just upgraded our bigger car to 400bhp Jag I Pace. Yes quite a difference, but the leaf still has that instant torque, it may be the underdog, but still has it's good points. Considering keeping the leaf after lease runs out in September.
Been holding my breath for this video since Nikki mentioned it was coming last week. Ahhhh! Thanks for getting it out so quick. Gandhi said something to the effect, There is enough in the world for everyone’s needs but not enough for everyone’s greed. Consistent with that axiom, this vehicle is the most admirable counter point to the resource devouring, ever more monstrous vehicles the big automakers keep pushing, even when going electric. I am all in for that.
Europe already gets so many more interesting electric cars that we can't get here (VW ID.3, Renault Zoe, and others). Highly efficient transportation is needed everywhere.
A vehicle (motorcycle) like this would be far easier to build and compete internationally. I really hope it does come to Europe. It'll make Tesla look obsolete!
After being an electric car owner since 2016 I've come accustomed to the quiet...as a kid I always wanted my car to be loud...now I just get annoyed by loud exhaust.🤣
@@kmancrx yeah when i was young i really liked loud cars too. But after being passenger of electric bus first time i realised how nice electric is :) you can hear music just so much better with electric vehicles :)
Getting an Aptera interview and test-ride in the Aptera puts me in an unusual state: envy. I am green with envy Nikki. Aside from Tesla I am terribly curious to see Aptera's success. Cool vehicle. Love the efficiency!
Tesla, Aptera, Rivian, they all seem to be destined for greatness (well, Tesla has already sort of achieved greatness, but aptera and rivian seem to be approaching quickly)
Thanks Nikki! As a reservation holder I am excited to get every bit of development news and reviews possible. So I really appreciate that you took the time and effort to drive down there to get some actual Aptera seat time, and relate your initial impressions of the design in it's current Alfa form. Thanks to Chris Anthony for being receptive to granting an early glimpse (and roller coaster ride) to Nikki, and in turn to the rest of us through her channel. I can't wait to get behind the wheel of the next generation Aptera myself someday soon, I hope.
Amazing to see. I was a massive fan of Aptera back when the started and was heartbroken when Aptera 1.0 collapsed. So happy to know they are back, better than ever before. Aptera is my absolute dreamcar, but since I live in Sweden where winters are no joke I would like to know if the Aptera is able to cope with the amount of snow we get here.
Up here in Canada, I wonder the same thing. Although in Ottawa, the city is really efficient about clearing roads after snow storms, so it only has to be as good as a normal car is, in snow and ice.
If you get the tri-motor/AWD version and (if needed) the offroad package with a higher ground clearance and adjustable suspension and pair that with some proper tires, I think you will be very pleased with how the Aptera performs in snowy conditions.
@@HuckWeed I agree. The traction control will be second to none. Next winter it will be tested at the Elaphe cold weather test track, and we will have video.
I’m a reservation holder in New Zealand, so crossing my fingers it won’t take too long to get down here. Really great to see you so excited Nikki, that tells me this is even better ‘ in the composite’ than the awesome pictures show. Keep up the excellent work Chris to keep this project rolling.
Thanks Nikki and Aptera. Aptera has a real winner on its hands and they are improving it at every step. Keep up the good work. You know we are extremely anxious to get one in our hands, but are smart enough to know ingenuity and perfection takes time, especially when one is on the cutting edge. I can't, but will wait. Good luck.
Aptera is going in the direction we should be going. They work so hard to reduce the weight on the vehicle. That translates to lower energy costs, longer ranges, its solar panels displaces more coal, oil, etc. If all vehicles on the road were as light as the Aptera our fossil fuel consumption would drop dramatically. I hope that Aptera is more than just another vehicle company, but it is a revolution in efficiency.
Great! I hope Aptera makes it to the market, I fully support them, especially because their guys seem to be humble and open to new ideas! Much respect!!
This is awesome. I really look forward to seeing these on the road. I look forward to getting a ride in one some day :-) They just look so neat!!! Reminds me of a high end sports car in aesthetic. Congrats on the exclusive interviews!
I want one of these... It is not convenient with 2 kids and both of us working in opposite directions, and we have zero room for a third car... But they look so fun to drive.
Thank you for your effort for this exclusive ride. It was worth it. The Aptera goes back to thorough thinking: lightweight, aerodynamic, just enough batteries and enough solar panels that are optimized for this car.
This is the EV which checks all the boxes, it's the "Smaller" EV we've all been waiting for ! Congratulations Chris & team for their progress & Nikki for getting the exclusive of the most innovative EV about to hit the market today !
His comment on the weight distribution shows that they know what they are doing. It will be a fun, efficient, and useful vehicle for everyday driving. Can't wait.
I'm fascinated by APTERA's efficiency. It's true that a significant amount of energy is spend in pushing air out of the way at highway speeds. The teardrop design (as much as it looks non traditional) makes total sense. My only concern with Aptera taking off as a company is that it may not get a chance to grow with Tesla dominating the market. Therefore they need Tesla on their side and present themselves as a united front against ICE vehicles. We must support all companies trying to make compelling vehicles in the EV space not just Tesla. In that way we can guarantee a complete transition to battery operated vehicle before the end of this decade
I don’t think there’s ever been a car in my lifetime that I’ve been genuinely excited for besides this one. I really hope this works out; we need something to shake up the industry.
Great video, it really gives you a sense of being there in the car. I feel that this is going to be at home on the motorway, and could be really big with firms that require long distance company cars. I want one even more now.
The guy who invents an engine simulator audio system is gonna make a killing. Imagine at the tap of a screen you could be driving a snarling V8 jag, a turbine, or even George Jetson's car. That said, this looks really cool and I wish Aptera well in getting this in production.

Nikki I’m so jealous of you getting to ride in the Aptera. I love the motor sound during acceleration. I have a reservation for mine also and can’t wait to get it.
What a contrast to the first car centered TH-cam video I just watched today. Jay Leno demonstrated his 're-created from-the-chassis-up 1932 Duesenberg two seater (with rumble seat) and will probably eventually get to see and ride in one of these. He has the eclectic taste that tells me that will happen. But the contrast could not be more stark. That 'Duesy' weighed 3 tons and had less horsepower than my Tesla Model 3 Long Range that weighs half that. Not only that but the Duesenberg with its 24 gallon fuel tank at 8 mpg would go less than 200 miles while my Tesla and the Aptera will both out distance it and our accelerate it. My Tesla, the slowest one made when I bought it, will reach 140 mph while the Duesenberg can just manage 120. Of course the design of that straight eight double overhead cam, four valves per cylinder is over 90 years old. But wow, we have come a long way. The Aptera will show up my Tesla I am certain, for efficiency and range. lets hope the ride quality is at least comparable to the other two cars I mentioned.
Another great exclusive! This really excites me, less weight and more efficient , means less power needed, means smaller motor needed and less batteries... And the cycle continues!
You'll have a choice between two 50 kW motors (front wheel drive) or three 50 kW motors (all wheel drive) which equates to approx. 130 hp and 200 hp, respectively.
I love the fact they are using wheel hub electric motors, with no gearing like others do they will be almost silent. And you can tell how quiet they really are in the video. I can't wait until these hit the market
Yeah.. This is amazing. I wonder if they could use recumbent bicycles seat style materials to have light ergonomic seats? Mesh style material that's actually super easy to repair, yet quite tight and flexible to be comfortable at the same time. Also, you can use hemp fiber to make the seats renewable for rather cheap.
Thanks for the coverage, also a reservation holder here, in Southeast Asia👋 High chance Aptera will not consider to fulfill orders outside of America and Europe soon, but we like what they are doing and putting reservation down regardless 🤣 We need to support upcoming companies doing the right thing 💪🤝
Two of the corncerns I have are ride damping on lightweight vehicles versus the heavy cars I am used to and this early prototype doesn't have all the suspension bits yet, so I will wait more. Then second is the cargo space under the hatch because I will want to keep a folding bicycle back there sometimes and I don't want to break the glass or not fit my bike. I am planning to get the solar option, so maybe it won't be glass back there. It's hard to see from the camera angle and lens how deep the rear of the cargo area is, or how far forward I could push my bike. I really love the efficiency of this which is why I put in the deposit as soon as I learned they were back.
The Aptera is going to present a very interesting challenge to all the folks out there who swore that they wouldn't drive an electric car until the range hit 200, er 300... I mean 400 no actually I won't accept anything less than what my ICE vehicle can do because my daily commute is 8 hours each way. We will soon have a vehicle that can out-range most ICE vehicles out there as well as actually self charging for the 'average' daily commute, meaning there are people out there who may NEVER need to spend a dime to put juice into it. If that weren't enough, it's at a very competitive purchase price! Really, the only knock is that it's a two seater. Still, even if your household has more than 2 individuals this should easily be your second car.
Maybe this car will be ready by the time I want to replace my car. It's just so different. I totally dig chopper cab design. Brilliant. Yeah, I know, I said this multiple times about the Aptera.
My face hurt I was smiling so hard watching this video! Gosh I'm a gig worker but it's definitely time to do another Kofi. You've many times more than deserved it. But this I wanted to jump up and down and scream like a little boy but the neighbors were watching and looking at me strange for smiling and talking to myself.
Since Aptera is so efficient, I really want them to bluid a light suitcase portable battery that you can charge at an apartment/office and plug it into the car to get 10-20 miles of range to do you commute on a cloudy/raining day when the solar isn’t working to great. (Maybe a custom input plug that could also bring in more money for aptera in accessories) Also let’s say the sun angle makes the front of the car in the shade and the back of the car in the sun, I’m worried the system might not work efficiently unless with multiple charge controllers to account for partial shading. I hope they read this feedback!
I was a bit skeptical but it looks really nice, seems stable, has luggage space. Yup, may be really fun to take on a long road trip. Excellent job Nikki.
Thanks again for coming by Nikki! We had a lot of fun. The team appreciates you including us as a stop on your trip to SoCal.

Since Aptera is so efficient, I really want them to bluid a light suitcase portable battery that you can charge at an apartment/office and plug it into the car to get 10-20 miles of range to do you commute on a cloudy/raining day when the solar isn’t working to great. (Maybe a custom input plug that could also bring in more money for aptera in accessories)
Also let’s say the sun angle makes the front of the car in the shade and the back of the car in the sun, I’m worried the system might not work efficiently unless with multiple charge controllers to account for partial shading.
I hope they read this feedback!
Excellent video!
I was a bit skeptical but it looks really nice, seems stable, has luggage space. Yup, may be really fun to take on a long road trip. Excellent job Nikki.
25 cu. ft. of luggage space, to be exact!
