- In this Emmy-winning General Hospital clip from 1998, Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson) confronts his mother Laura (Genie Francis) about the fact that his father raped her. Part 1.
One on the times you really see how much Lucky is like Luke. I get the trauma of learning of his parents dark history but his lashing out at his mother in that way was torturous to watch.
Fully agree. His whole 'hot and cold' attitude and the arrogance/smugness wrapped into cold detachment is so vintage Luke. JJ played this brutal scene so well.

How self rightious Lucky was here, how presumptuous. He had no right to assume things about his mother without talking to her first ti get her side. This was sickening , what the writers had lucky say to her. I DO love that Laura put him in his place . How dare he. Also , who says Luke and Laura shouldve told Lucky about what happened? It was between them, and when/if the time is right they MIGHT have told him but its not like they lied to him. It had notji g to do with him.

i can understand why lucky might be upset with his parents, cuz they never told him about the rape earlier, but he has no right to pass judgement against his own parents, especially his mother, who was practically the victim in the situation....maybe he just doesnt understand how such a sick act could have laura go on and fall in love with the man that raped her, when he sees all the pain elizabeth went thru, and i think thats what really hurt him and why he feels so angry.
He's acting though as if they fell in love, bcuz of the rape. Lucky is insinuating some pretty filthy things about his mom smh. Laura was traumatized. She fell in love with Luke despite what he did, not because of it. She was already drawn to him beforehand.
@@permafrost0979 No, he’s angry because his father did a sick act to a person he loves, his mother. His anger towards the situation is justified and understandable, I and anyone in their right mind would be disgusted. I remember watching this as kid, I could never understand the dynamic between the two. Rape is not something someone gets over, it’s a trauma that lives with you forever. This show made it seems like this is something normal….who do you even know falls in love with their rapist?

God, I wanted to smack Lucky when I first saw this scene! To this day I'm not sure rape-revisited was a good idea, but it made for some fine acting.
It was a great idea. They called it out for what it really was instead that "seduction" mess they're tried to pull back then.
Amazing!!! JJ held every bit of his own in his scenes with GF and TG .. incredible when you think of the years of experience that GF and TG had on JJ. They all rocked and I still think GF and TG are great!!!
did anyone else notice that laura is wearing the EXACT same color she was when she was raped
I'd rather he used profanity towards her than to speak to her that way. It wasn't really what Lucky said to Laura... it was how he said it.

amazing acting GF and JJ...damn i almost forget they are acting. i wish i started watching GH back in the 90's....its just seemed like the writing of the storylines were better focusing on real issues and family problems and less mob business....now the mob part has taken up the show. such a shame.

I get that Lucky is angry and probably felt betrayed that his mother lied to him, but that's still no excuses for his behavior. Granted if my mom was raped and lied to me about, yes, I'd probably be angry and hurt like he is, but I'd at least listen to her reasons as to why she lied to me and we might argue a little bit, but I wouldn't say the stuff that he said
no, lucky does have the right to be mad, but just the way he wss treating and talking to his mother, gives him no excuse to act that bad...some of the things he was saying to laura, were a bit too extreme. but, thats just my opinion. afterall, she is still his mother.

Lucky Had Every Right yo Confront Luke&Laura . Especially Since he saw Rape first hand💯 I Don’t Understand Either. I was about 9 when I first Watched G/H I thought Luke&Laura were Great Together and that Scotty was the problem. But Luke Really did Rape her. She mite have been Co fused about how she felt about him. Due to age differences and her being only 17 when she married Scotty. But Luke did what he did. She was so Angry with him in the beginning. Then everything changed. Partly caz G/F and
A/G had Great Chemistry 💯 I’ve Always felt bad for Laura there was always something so Special about her❤️ I Guess they Never thought Lucky would find out😤?
i don't why he was so angry at Laura i mean its not like she said hey Luke rape me. he had a right to know what happened but he didn't have to be that why with her i mean that's still his mom.
Lucky *did not* have a *right* to anything, and Laura rightly told him so. This happened to Laura, not Lucky, and who she decides to share that information with and when is up to her and nobody else, including her son.

Great acting by JJ and GF. Gotta admit, if I were Laura I would been struggling not to slap to crap out if Lucky spoke to me that way, lied to, hurting, or not.

I will discuss this with you when you can respect who I am. They never gave Laura backbone in this era. I feel sorry for GF. She’s constantly crying.

I remmeber watching in awe JJ was so raw s nd real in his delivery Luke/Laura were his heroes their love was something lucky was proud of it was the absolute truth in his life while calling your own mothers name out desrves a slap lucky was a teenager dealing with things not even adults understand so he lashed out with no regards to the effect of his words to him everything is a lie if his dad not the hero good guy and his mothers not a st angel

Really kinda hard to say first off it was called rape until they saw the chemistry between the to and then called it a sedition then went back to rape but lucky had no right to talk to his mom like that but it funny cause what ever people believe they still made this couple famous and the most watch wedding ever.

@NightScape18 Jacob Young just didn't look like Lucky to me. I get that he was a recast, but aside from looks and build his strengths as an actor shine much brighter as JR Chandler, especially before Pratt took over as headwriter.

The most offensive scene ever
Lucky was being cruel to her, but I found it much more offensive that the show portrayed rape as no big deal, romantic even, with Laura marrying her rpaist. And then defending it to Lucky by saying that Luke loved her...always. You don't rape somebody, hurt someone that you way, if you love her. Never!
It really was. The only upside is that it gave Genie Francis and Jonathan Jackson some outstanding acting scenes. Overall, however, this scene is just wrong on so many levels.
Kids can be very cruel. Only parents can forgive most of it.
It is super gross that the writers had Laura marry her rapist. So much yikes.

Lucky is being so ridiculous. Who is he to judge his mom , the victim ! If his mom could forgive his dad he certainly should! I think guza was trying to re do Jason Morgan. He had him hating his parents & living in a box car just like Jason & having a love affair with liz like robin. He should be looking for how they moved past it.
