Laura's rather twisted way of trying to excuse what Luke did is... sickening. If their relationship had been nothing more than Stockholm syndrome and not spanned the years and produced two children. But this? It's as though she forced it right out of her blonde head. Maybe that's what, in large part, led to her breakdown.
I watched GH change her rape to a "seduction"......she is justifying being raped and marrying her rapist....lost respect for the Luke/Laura saga after that.
+kimberly harris I think the issue was two-fold: 1. The chemistry between Genie and Tony was amazing during the disco era of GH when the rape occurred, so the writers took that chemistry and turned them into a supercouple and 2. The relationship between Luke and Laura has always been about obsession, power, control and finally forgiveness. They were complicated human beings living complex lives and lies. That certainly doesn't justify what he did (raping her) or what she did (marrying him afterward), but it did make them a fascinating couple to watch for decades. I just didn't like how wimpy the writers made Laura when they reintroduced the Cassadines and Luke forced her to choose between him and Nikolas. I hated that she yielded to him, but eventually she and NIkolas were able to bond.
Anthony Geary was appalled and disgusted about the writers turning his rapist character into love interest. He was sure that women would turn away from GH and when that didn't happen, he quit, but instead of allowing him to leave, he got a HUGE RAISE and a better negotiated contract that basically gave him awesome perks to be off when he wanted to be and the writers work around it. I have a girlfriend who was raped and I couldn't image her or any woman KNOWINGLY marrying her rapist.
+kimberly harris The story should have ended in 82. Luke left town without saying goodbye to Laura left a note last year. The year before that Luke told Laura there love was like an old worn out tshirt. Now Laura is pending time with Scotty again. No such thing as love on this planet. Laura should have pressed rape charges on madman Luke 25 years ago and stayed married to Scotty.
You are correct - for real life. However keep in mind how the L & L love story impacted all of TV history. At the time of the R, it was the fans who decided to not call it what it was. The fans loved the L & L story. It was the fans who wanted them together. It was a total surprise to the actors and the producers of the show. Because of this, they decided to call it something else and ran with it. Years later Anthony Geary & Genie Francis said that they were not going to call it anything other than what it was…R…and they were going to finally deal with it. This is how they put the subject back on the table to deal with it. I think they did a great job with the bringing it back up. I don’t know if it was the best way. However in real life, no one would have been ok with a R-ist and a victim having the great love story in history. So what do you do? I guess they could have pretended that it never happened and Laura wakes up alone, confused about where she is, hears the shower running, goes to check it out, opens the shower door and there stands Scotty looks at her and says “Good morning”. She realizes that the past almost 20 years was just a dream/nightmare. Yeah. That didn’t work for Dallas. I don’t think it would have worked for GH. Not to mention that people age in 20 years. Genie looks the same. But not Scotty or Luke. There also would not have been a Lucky. I can’t imagine not watching the brilliance of this actor. So anyway, this episode would be totally inappropriate in real life. But in real life, this story would never have happened. 🙃
It was bad because during this time he found out about Liz being raped. He did go after Luke, I found it creepy the way luke described what he did to Laura, the way he talked about how she smelled, he said she smelled like Roses and he wanted to drown into her, he also described what she was wearing and the high heels she had on and the way the straps was around her ankles. Now that's creepy.
He was right on a lot of counts lucky spent a life on the run with these two idiots country to country town to town he depended on them for everything his survival, running from frank while preaching to lucky about owning what you do, hard work and responsibilities all those enemies just pushed them even closer making for a very tight family unit, to find out that the better parts of his childhood like the parts where he didn't get shot at were based on a very ugly lie would be hard to tolerate.
As weired as it is Luke and Laura never would have happend if the fans didn't want it when it started off they planned to make this a regular rape story but the fans fell in love with these two people so the show had to spin what had happend I think though they made up for the fact that Laura feel in love with Luke by the way the reopend it with this story line
This kid was way too nasty to his own mother. I dislike him how he treated Laura considering she was the victim. It was like Lucky was blaming the victim. But Laura needs to acknowledge her rape and stop making excuses for it.
Lucky is projecting. He is projecting his on fears and self loathing, onto his parents.(his father is more deserving of that, his mom, most DEFINATELY not) But he's dealt with a lot in this last year that we are watching right now. Hell, it started before that. He's got a brother his mom never told him about, who shared blood with the family his father has taught him to loathe. He looks at Nik and can't see a brother. Because he's trying to see through the haze of hate for the Cassidines, betrayal from his mother, and jealousy of not being her first born anymore.(petty, yeah, but he's.a kid) Then he finds his friend, bloody and broken in the snow. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what happened there. Yeah, it happened to her. But he got woken up to the true ugliness of this world, real quick. In a sense, his innocence was lost that night as well. Then he finds out that she was in that park, because she was avoiding going to the dance.....
And she was avoiding going to the dance, because she had thought they were going together, and she couldn't hide her hurt and embarrassment at seeing him go with her sister. And having her grandmother keep talking about how happy Elizabeth was about going with him, did NOT help his guilt. He's still grappling with what kind of monster could do that to a 15yr old girl, turning to his father for guidance. And then he finds out from his biggest rival, and only brother, that his father IS one of those monsters. And his mother was found in the park, just a few feet away from where he saw Liz crawling out of those bushes. So now he's dealing with worry for his friend, guilt because she should have been safe with him at that dance, lies from his parents. And that annoying irrational fear, that the apple didn't fall far enough from that tree. That's a lot for a 16yr old boy.
Woah, this was the GH I fell in love with, and not what we have now. If you're not happy with the way the show is going, you're welcome to join other ABC soap fans from all three shows that will not be watching this friday may 1st, to try to make TPTB understand that without fans, they have no show.
Rape is bad, yes, terrible, but one shouldn’t tell the victim how to feel. They deal with the experience joe they feel it needs to be dealt. Just because they don’t react broken and destroyed after the rape. Doesn’t mean they are a bad victim. As much as I like Lucky, I can’t take his side here.
@@judithjerde1574 he is not an ungrateful brat! He found out the truth and he was reeling. Laura can't justify the unjustifiable. Lucky's friend was just raped and he went to his father for help to understand how a man could do that to a girl and instead of telling him the truth he just sat there and watched his son suffer! If you think Luke and Laura are complicated then look at Lucky. He has been told all of his life that he was just like his father and you can tell he was very proud of that. His whole world is falling down around him how did you expect him to act? He is not self righteous and he is not spoiled he is a 16 year old kid who spent his life being lied to over and over again. He was in pain and he was scared he would turn out just like his father. Nothing Lucky said was wrong. Maybe he should have went about it a different way but he was betrayed and hurt and confused. What else do you want from him?? He was sick of being lied to and the man that he has spent his whole life looking at as a hero Raped his own mother and she stayed with him???? There is nothing okay about that!
Lucky's got a problem with putting people he loves on pedestals. And when they don't meet his expectations, he tears them to shreds and treats them like they are no better than the dirt under his boots. The way he treated his mother here, the way he treats Elizabeth later - yuck.
Genie Francis and Jonathan Jackson ROCKED this scene and this storyline....I wanted to smack Lucky for acting like he could tell his mom how she should've reacted to being raped...Genie deserved an Emmy for this
Jonathan Jackson is one of the most underrated actors ever…not just daytime TV. No offense to the other actors who played Lucky…but I believe that Jackson was BORN to play Lucky Spencer. He is the closest person to be a “son” to Luke Spencer…Luke’s little “Mini Me”!
@freshasflowers And I don't care what people say, the Luke and Laura pairing is not cute and it is NOT romantic. And just so you know, sex offenders are the hardest to rehabilitate (and by that, I mean it'll take 5 centuries for them to redeem themselves).
So grateful the rest of us did not agree with you. I will love l&l forever. They fell in love before that terrible night. It worked because we loved Luke's love for Laura before that night, and understood all that both were going thru. She wanted him, she just didn't know how to get out of a marriage she no longer wanted to be in, and was only 17. Call it f''ked up all you want. But lord we love n have loved them so very much. It was unfair they didn't leave and walk off into the sunset together.
Lucky had no right to be so smug & mean to his mother she was the victim for for godsakes!!! I never got the whole rape victim falls for rapist thing that thrilled the world literally. 30 million people watched their wedding ! Maybe people want to believe so badly in redemption. I don't know . I'm jj's age so I wasn't born til after l&l wedding. Oltl tried to go there w/ Todd & Marty thank God the actors refused! Fans def were down for it as polls always pulled in for t&m once Todd became a hot property like Luke & the chemistry was there for Todd & Marty but they blew it. Plus it was a gang rape led by Todd. Not to say one rape is worse than another but a gang rape egged on by the ringleader should is just another level of sickening. Rape is rape period. Anyway on gh I'm guessing they never intended for l&l to take off. I think they had no choice as the fans went wild. I guess being fiction & times being so different it was written & back stepped. I did read Laura gave Luke ish for a year or so after. I did see the scene of Laura in the hospital after & it's heart breaking. I think lucky should have more empathy for laura & ask why she forgave him instead of making fun of her like she's some pycho. I get his anger at Luke but why at laura?

If this is how Lucky reacted to that part of his parents past, imagine how Johnny from Days Of Our Lives will react to finding out EJ raped Sami and he was a product from that.
Laura & Luke shoulda treated Lucky like the kid he was from the start. This is what happens when a child is treated like one of the grownups, put a pedestal. No excuse for the nasty insinuations he through at his mother. Lucky seemed a little creepy himself in this scene.
He may have called it love. But if you go back and look at the way he dominated her…that’s not love. That’s control. Laura was so young, in trouble legally and was so dependent on others (playing a victim) at the time. Scotty had her under his thumb and that’s what he wanted. I do believe that he loved her in his own way. But even before the L & L story, I didn’t like the way he treated her. On a side note, Kin Shriner is a great actor!!!
@@the_Real_Grammy_of_6 to a point I agree with you.......Scotty certainly made his mistakes even pre LnL and most certainly after that said I do think Laura did feel safe with him inspite of everything and alot has happened hence why I think there relationship has been so long lasting..yes KS is a great actor absolutely can do it all.....and he is a funny guy to was watching some old clips of him trying to get deception started with Lucy and Dominique way back when.
How in the world did Generation X idolized a character like Luke who assaulted a woman? Especially Gen X women, where were their self pride or self respect?! Thank goodness we have evolved from Gen X
Lucky is a twit and so out of place to even inquire; he was not even a thought. Yes, he was lied to and yet he is the son, born decades later, no less. Lucky is self-righteous and made it about HIM. Twit.
Gloria Monty was obsessed by Anthony Geary and the chemistry between the two. Speaking as someone who was watching it at the time, they had Laura flashback to that scene in the disco so many times and each time she kind of restructured it in her mind. She was maybe 18 at the time - I don’t even think she was legal to work in a club- and she took the job to pay for Scotty a set of law books. At the time Scotty was the good guy who had been in love with her since she was 14 or so and he was the only guy she’d ever dated. (Well she’d been in love with some older guy whom she ended up killing ) so she gets interested in bad boy Luke. He rapes her and she can’t get him out of her mind. She’s writing him a love letter about how she can’t stop thinking about him “ever since the night you raped me” and Scotty reads it and all heck broke lose. Then Luke gets shot at his wedding and everybody thinks he’s dead, Laura finds him and they run away together. It was ridiculous. And she wore the same blue dress for months. 😂

Know it was the DAVID HAMITON INCIDENT THAT SHE NEVER GOT OVER
I watched GH change her rape to a "seduction"......she is justifying being raped and marrying her rapist....lost respect for the Luke/Laura saga after that.
I am still speechless at her justification and the writers' of General Hospital and how they turned a rape into a love story.
Laura should have pressed rape charges on madman Luke 25 years ago and stayed married to Scotty.
disappointingly, I can't seem to get this to play . . .
I always thought this was creepy the way Lucky reacted to the rape. I understand he would be shocked, but not really attacking his mother like this
It was bad because during this time he found out about Liz being raped. He did go after Luke, I found it creepy the way luke described what he did to Laura, the way he talked about how she smelled, he said she smelled like Roses and he wanted to drown into her, he also described what she was wearing and the high heels she had on and the way the straps was around her ankles. Now that's creepy.
@@GameOn71213 And Lucky did not give Laura the courtesy of the opportunity to explain before he lit into her full force.
This is why Genie Francis NEED to go back to GH! We need LAURA BACK NOW!
GF should have won an Emmy for this scene.
Writers should have never made them fall in love and marry. Rape is rape dont down play it that you fall in love and marry.
They shouldn’t have had him rape her to begin with.
Jonathan Jackson was an amazing young actor. I wonder whatever happened to him??
Partying lifestyle.
This kid was way too nasty to his own mother. I dislike him how he treated Laura considering she was the victim. It was like Lucky was blaming the victim. But Laura needs to acknowledge her rape and stop making excuses for it.
@AdArmand JJ is an old soul so true. JJ is gifted no question about that. GH and GH fans are lucky (pun) to have him.
Great Acting. WOW!!!!!
Lucky is projecting. He is projecting his on fears and self loathing, onto his parents.(his father is more deserving of that, his mom, most DEFINATELY not)
But he's dealt with a lot in this last year that we are watching right now. Hell, it started before that.
He's got a brother his mom never told him about, who shared blood with the family his father has taught him to loathe. He looks at Nik and can't see a brother. Because he's trying to see through the haze of hate for the Cassidines, betrayal from his mother, and jealousy of not being her first born anymore.(petty, yeah, but he's.a kid)
Then he finds his friend, bloody and broken in the snow.
If you're not happy with the way the show is going, you're welcome to join other ABC soap fans from all three shows that will not be watching this friday may 1st, to try to make TPTB understand that without fans, they have no show.
what a scene this was
Rape is bad, yes, terrible, but one shouldn’t tell the victim how to feel. They deal with the experience joe they feel it needs to be dealt. Just because they don’t react broken and destroyed after the rape. Doesn’t mean they are a bad victim. As much as I like Lucky, I can’t take his side here.
he acts so righteous he is a spoiled brat
How did a wonderful loving family unit end up with such dramatic fail in the rearing of this ungrateful brat?
Genie!!!!!
As much as I loved JJ, he shouldn’t have attacked his mother for her assault.
Lucky's got a problem with putting people he loves on pedestals. And when they don't meet his expectations, he tears them to shreds and treats them like they are no better than the dirt under his boots. The way he treated his mother here, the way he treats Elizabeth later - yuck.
Wonderful scene.
That was fucked up.
That smug look on Lukcky's face is making me nauseous.Laura was a good mother to him,and she dosen't deserve this attitude.
Cocodan 2000 I agree. But teenagers can be like this smug and self righteous.
In all honesty it is none of his business what went on like she said she had a separate life before and after his birth he was an ass anyway
I agree.
you go Laura
What happens between a man & a woman is between a man & woman. Lucky did overstep
I hate lucky in this whole storyline. He needs a slap upside his head. How dare he make it about him. That little arrogant self righteous brat!!
I agree, I'm so happy he's back on General Hospital. But I do hope they start to give him better material to work with.
Johnathan Jackson is Phenomenal 💯 a Natural. He Nailed these Scenes👏 and every other scene that followed. Know Wonder why he Won 6Emnys!
Another Luke and Laura apologize. I love how you whack job losers justify rape. Keep rooting for the true love rapists. Haha
I think for Laura it might have been Stockholm syndrome. And that why she fell for Luke.
this lucky was so good :)
THIS IS TOUR DE FORCE HERE!!!
This whole speech by Laura is excusing rape and it’s disgusting. I can’t believe these writers wrote that nonsense. Lucky was right to be angry.

If this is how Lucky reacted to that part of his parents past, imagine how Johnny from Days Of Our Lives will react to finding out EJ raped Sami and he was a product from that.
lucky did need to get slapped i mean even if he was some what justified he was waaaaaaaay out of line
Laura should have slapped the punk
Lucky needs to shut his mouth.
Who is laura soulmate? Luke, Stefan or Kevin
None of these men tbh.
I loved Lucky, but this interaction is sad. He made her out to be a bad guy somehow.
Laura should've turned on him. She should've went on him for not being their to Elizabeth.
Laura & Luke shoulda treated Lucky like the kid he was from the start. This is what happens when a child is treated like one of the grownups, put a pedestal. No excuse for the nasty insinuations he through at his mother. Lucky seemed a little creepy himself in this scene.
You made your rapist their father. His gf was just raped. And now his father is a man who raped a woman. Yea a little bit messed up lady...
chill out, Laura
Genie Francis is a GOD.
Ooo.
say what you will about scotty but he loved laura and wanted to do right by her he didn't always go about it the right way but...
2o20 an I'm watching.
Good for you laura
Lucky like his father is a sanctimonious smart arse.
❤❤. Ashame. Laura how to explain. To her son. .how uncomfortable for poor laura ❤. 4 16 24
Well done Laura.
This is such bad acting and writing lol how did they turn a rape storyline into a huge love story
How in the world did Generation X idolized a character like Luke who assaulted a woman? Especially Gen X women, where were their self pride or self respect?! Thank goodness we have evolved from Gen X
The oldest Gen Xers were 14 and in school in 1979. Don't blame Gen X.
@Nyanko Meiji Rape is rape. Stop justifying assault on women. It’s almost like you support attacking women
good for laura
Lucky is a twit and so out of place to even inquire; he was not even a thought. Yes, he was lied to and yet he is the son, born decades later, no less. Lucky is self-righteous and made it about HIM. Twit.
I love that you use the word “twit” to describe him. 🤣🤣
I love Laura
This was the stupidest storyline ever. She actually married her rapist!🤦🏻I’ll never understand the thought process behind that!
@@suekelley2109 Wow!! I’m glad I wasn’t watching them, hehe
This Lucky was a brat and know it all
He drawing the way Elizabeth was raped totally diff Laura was seduced
Laura was raped!
@@tammymartinez7488 I’m afraid there’ll never be a resolution between fans on the rape v. seduction argument. It’s like the, what came first the chicken or the egg question.
Her running off and sobbing into the ground didn't seem like seduction to me.
Johnathan Jackson@His Best He is a Great Actor💯 so Phenomenal. And so young!!! No Wonder Why he Won6 Emmys Consistently🫲 As far as I’m Concerned He is the Only Lucky Spencer!❤️ And Laura Trying to Justify the Rape by using the word Love it’ is Sick
I'm so glad he's back on General Hospital.
