roland middleton I’m not very familiar with the landings or boats that fish Catalina unfortunately. If I were to go out on one of the sport boats that fish there, it’d be either the native sun or the el dorado. I’ve heard a lot of good things about both of those boats and crews.
E A I’ve never fished out of Dana. They’ll most likely go looking for bluefin though. Bring a 30lb fly line rod and a heavy 50lb set up for sinker rigs
I work on the shogun out of fishermen's landing and we were down near the Coronado islands catching some nice bluefin. We just got back from a 1.5 day trip on 5/30/19
@@Dirty.Hookers Paul the captain said there had to be at least two hundred tons of bluefin under the boat. And from the size of the ones jumping clear out of the water were 40lb-200lb. Biggest on the boat was about 120lb.
We just got back from a Penn sponsored trip and we got on the epic yellowtail again and got another 315 all trophy sized fish. A few small yellowfin a bluefin rounds it out
KIT Keppler jeeeezzzzz so insane!!! I’m going out on Saturday aboard the Mission Belle but we’ll probably stick to the islands. I have a 1.5 day trip aboard the pride in August! Getting so amped up! Wanna get out there so bad already!
I’ve been wanting to fish that boat. Can’t believe that deckhand got you out of that tangle and you still managed to land that fish. Very nice. First break off was painful tho. Hate it when people don’t follow their line. Happens to the best of us.
Jeremiah Lubas I broke off on 2 jigs while Hooke up to fish because people wouldn’t follow their lines. And someone’s line wrapped on my rod and broke on of my guides. It was bad! But yeah as soon as I saw that tangle I was like “I’ll just drop my drag into a lower gear and let my fish do whatever he wants till I’m free of this mess” all 3 of us in that tangle landed our fish it was crazy
In your opinion, would you use the power handle in high gear or double paddle in low gear for baitcasters like you lexa 300. Im currently debating which is more versatile. And the reel im looking at is the Shimano Tranx 400. Don't know if I should get the ahg or a
Jeremy for the lexa 300 i would go with the high speed. You can always reel slower! And the tranx. I wish I could help you but I’ve never even touched a tranx lol
Tranx 400 is like a lexa 3.5. Its in between the Lexa 300 and 400 size and spool capacity wise. I'm deciding whether to get a double paddle or powerhandle.
Man normally in your videos people are on it when it comes to going over or under someone, you definitely had that rookie crew out there today. shout out to Steveo sorting sh*t out when it got hot You both owe him that fish at the 12 minute mark lol.
Myke Myers oh man we both gave steveo the biggest high five and thank you for that fish! We should’ve had limits by the second stop of the day but it was just one of those rental rod trips. Nothing you can do about it.
And big props to that captain of the mission belle. I haven’t got to fish with him yet but boy oh boy can that man find fish. I live up in the San Pedro area and normally head on the 22nd Street landing but I’ve been on the old glory a couple times and junior along with kley are hands down one of the best captains I’ve been with in a while. Call me crazy, one day I’m going to buy the southern cal out of Oceanside and take it out of its misery over there and run her everyday.
I’m stuck. I wanna get another surface rod, mind you I have an axis 90j prototype rod and am about to wrap my gf900h. I wanna get a softer rod to really huck those lighter jigs out there. I’m torn out which 90j to get, the t90j, btg90j which is graphite with a glass wrap on the outside, or the regular all glass 90j. I tried this one guys cousins 95mag and oh my lord did I huck that thing out there. It’s a composite rod but I don’t have the money for a cousins rod. What would you buy if you wanted a softer more parabolic surface rod for yellows and shenanigans. I’m kind of addicted to surface rods lol especially 9’ black on black. I already had an abyss 9’ 20-50 and absolutely hated it. My axis I stated above is nice but it just doesn’t have the whip to really get the jig out there especially paddy fishing where the jig needs to get out an easy 75+ yards. I feel like I most likely will need to get a 10’. Idc about how it’s harder to fight the fish, I’m more worried about getting in the zone and getting bit. Any help is greatly appreciated. I watch your vids all the time and I guess you can say I’m one of harbor hooligans consultants about reels😂.
jdebelak10 nice I’m glad to be meeting another fellow hooligan! And I really wish I can answer your question but I’m honestly still so new to surface fishing. It really is an addiction! But everything you’ve seen in my videos is everything I’ve used. Just the cal star 900 and 100. And the 8’6 rods I have. I really haven’t felt out any other rods. But one thing I’ve learned is you gotta be prepared to drop money on a rod you like. I’d check on bloody decks or Craigslist or eBay first. You’ll find a lot of stuff for cheap and still new! But anytime I need to learn more about anything or get a recommendation I usually just talk to deckhands or employees at tackle shops. That’s where I learn almost everything I know tbh! I’m sorry I can’t help haha but it sounds like you know more about different rods then I do lol
David Vizcarra my favorite is a mint Tady 45. The next 2 would be blue and white tady 45 and holographic purple tady 45. I’ll be posting a video later today of everything I use for yellowtail. From line to lures to hooks. Everything I keep in my tackle bag
I would bring a 7(8)9 foot jig stick rated 30-60 filled with 50# braid topped with applicable top shot so you could fish 30-40-50 and a 6-7 foot bait rod rated 50-80# filled with 80# braid topped with 100# mono for dropper loop and 50-80# flouro for bait.
Salty Bums I LOVE IT! I didn’t get any good angles of me casting it. But it’s so smooth and it does have a lot of power. I just cranked that fish in no problem to the point where it pulled the iron right out of its mouth because it was cranking in to easily hahah. But yeah I’ll have to double check my drag next time. It’s such a nice reel. Well worth the money
Dirty Hookers sweet! Got mine on the way can’t wait to take it out, hopefully I’ll be able to get on The San Diego they’re killing it out there. Tight lines brotha🤙🏻
Salty Bums hell yeah! The SD and the Liberty have both been doing really well on patties lately! Definitely take your reel out for a practice session before hopping on a boat and learning on the spot haha.
Freddie Skates dude it was so bad!! Nobody was following their fish! One persons line wrapped on my rod and broke one of my guides. And I lost 2 jigs because people sawed me off
Dirty Hookers oh nice. So its kind of a limited load... I was just curious because of the tangles.... would you say it was the amount of people or just people not following their line?
Artour Martirosyan yeah we keep those trips super limited. And yeah. About 85% of the people on this trip had never done this before and that was the results of it haha. Sucks really bad but it is what it is
Alexander Team Billy Wynn lol I knew mine were able to be bounced. But I agree. When I was rewatching all the footage I was like “wow I wouldn’t had bounced that one!” Haha
Zack Kay yeah bro I’m still stoked!! I don’t have spottie fishing down here where I’m from but I watch a lot of videos for them! And yeah man I’m PUMPED on that it! All 3 were pretty good compared to videos I’ve seen. But that second one was a slob!
Dirty Hookers yah, the igfa record is six pounds. For some reason the state record is bigger than the world record, bc how the people submitted thier fish. The world record is like 4.7 something
I'm no expert but slow motion would be determined by FPS, the higher the FPS the more you can slow down your video. If you record in 2.7k with 60 FPS you can slow down to 50% if you record in 1080 with 120 FPS you can slow it even more play back at 25% speed with excellent quality.
tunakiller1 my GoPro only allows 60 FPS in 1080 I believe. That’s why I had it set to the 720 p. I haven’t messed with it too much. I’ve been keeping it in 1080 with more recent videos

GHM93 I’d come with a bunch of different sizes from between 20-40. The yellows this day we’re so finicky that 3 or 4 people started using 15 lb. but that helped them catch so good for them haha. But I usually do 25 flouro for finicky fish and 30 if they’re on the chew. And 40 for lures
Glenn Davis thanks man. I’m going out again on the 8th. Captain is debating between going offshore or sticking to the islands. Either way it should be a fun one! And I’ll be on an overnight on the 22nd - 23rd. So stay tuned for some more good action coming really soon!

hanzo davilln Daiwa lexa 300
I know it was 4 years ago but is that rod a Cali inshore tri fiber you're using on those spotties at the start of this video?

Yep. That’s the inshore tri fiber. Still going strong to this day!

Dirty Hookers we did good! Limits on rockfish and almost limits on whitefish. Weather was good n bad off and on.
REELDEALJOJO Orozco nice! Did if you almost got limits on whitefish you must’ve gone to the islands after all
What size jighead oz did you use to catch those spotted bass in the beginning of the video? And also size of the Swimbait ?
Turtlemilk - 3/8 wheedles warbaits with a 4” steel baits swimbait. I also use a 1/4 oz with a 3” or 4” pretty often as well

Harbor Hooligans 👊🏼
It hurt me as much as it hurt you to to see the yellows come off😩😩
Brian Villasenor honestly I’m still pissed! I hooked 7 yellows that day, broke off on 3 of them and 2 of those break off were jigs. And my eye broke because someone’s line wrapped around my rod while they were fighting a fish. God damn I wish people would follow their lines!!
Dirty Hookers I understand, should have tried using heavier line, and I'm going out on the 26 out of dana point. Wish me luck.
Brian Villasenor I was using 40 lb! That’s so heavy already hahaha. And good luck man!
Dirty Hookers thanks and then they were just not ment to be
Brian Villasenor they would’ve been if people followed their fish😂
What reel is on that rod with the butterfly jig? Also what oz butterfly jig was that? Can I use a shimano Curado for this type of fishing?
Salty_ Kidz I was using the Daiwa Lexa 300. The Curado 300E would be able to handle it with the right line and rod
Very cool fishing Congratulations Fisherman, I'm a Fisherman from *Brazil.* 👍🎣🐠🐠🐠
