    That cut-out at the front is likely just meant to be a sleeker/angular version of the notch at the front of the Intrepid-class (sensor/secondary deflector/whatever) and basically bridge the visual look between the Intrepid and Pathfinder classes (the Pathfinder has an even deeper cut-out “lane” for its notch).

    what sold me with the OG Voyager was not the then new 'radical' arrow shape of the main saucer section, but it was watching the actual physical movement of the folding warp nacelle pylons right before the ship engages to warp speed. And how about the almost overkill aesthetics of them external windows count from way back when, so seeing less of them prob. means more battle ready than just being a primary designated ship of exploration.

      It is a conundrum with Star Trek the ships in the franchise would seem to have for the longest time had a longevity and elasticity and now that we're going further in time it seems like their life spans are getting shorter and shorter despite all the advancements my take its plotlines and story lines that are the result for condensing and overlap

    We know that the Lamarr-class is roughly the same size as the Sovereign, but with a more scientific mission profile. Sharing parts, especially the Nacelles makes a lot of sense as the Sovereign would be in full production at this point.

    I would love to see Starfleet create ships similar to 8472. Able to link together and deploy high energy beams that clearly out classed the Borg. Sadly that tech Used to defend against species 8472, can also be used to assimilate whole ships, or whole planets without ever deploying drones. Imagine a whole planet assimilated in less than an hour, with trillions of nanites. Too damn dangerous!

    The visual tie in to the intrepid class is realllly thin. like 0 fat milk thin. The large sensor area on top of saucer and the deflector is pretty much it. voyager looked like an exploratory science vessel. this looks like a warship.

  • @palpaladin315
    @palpaladin315 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The nacelles don't look all that long to me; the profile seems to still be that of the intrepid. Only its got the wide, flat pylons of the Protostar. - it does look like bussards are like those, typical of Sovereigns' nacelles.
    Aside from the absence of a deliberate secondary hull, and hull connection body; Sovereigns have the curved (or square) pylons that sweep back from the rear of the hull. The nacelles high over the impulse engine assembly.
    Maybe you're thrown off by the nacelles not being shoulder mounted on the hull of the origonal Voyager science refit? but thats not what makes an intrepid, an intrepid. - Its the unique saucer / secondary hull, as one module; and the way its saucer, and impulse cluster fits directly on the hull.
    This is a ship that can land on planet's, and yeah, tougher, better armed Voyager. - Intrepid was designed as a warship, y'see. Voyager was fitted as a long range science vessel, with a third deflector. Something Janeway made good use of, given Voyager got stuck in the Delta quatrant, with fewer weaponry it badly needed.
    I'm liking this Voyager, and thought the Protostar was pretty sexy. Good ships.

    I'm still waiting for quantum torpedoes to impress me. But then photon torpedoes never impressed me either. Just a different special effect for when the phasers don't work.
    Torpedoes should be a kill shot, not just "cripple their ship". That's phasers with surgical precision. A torpedo is more of a killallaliens dumb bomb.

    Did you actually say that the obvious windows are not windows...
    There is nothing in the history of Trek that suggests they are anything else.
    Do they make sense when it comes to scale? Do they make sense overall?
    Who knows, it's animation so therefore by definition are not alpha cannon in any way.
    Those white rectangles are clearly meant to be windows, period.
    I don't care what somebody told you after the fact to try to explain why nothing makes sense, and this is why animation is never canon.

    I still dislike entire starship hull textures in this show, steel and chrome doesn't feel like Starfleet (I'm looking at you too Discovery). I doubt that it is an armor since why would thay have armor activated in spacedock and consequently in each shot of ship shown in trailer.

    • @AaronWaltke

    Still don't know why Voyager needs a suffix at all. I thought the Enterprise suffix's are to honor the original ship and it's crew for saving Earth, and the Federation several times over. Voyager was lost for years, and did nothing... I don't get it.
    Edit : Why not give this USS Voyager a new registry number then (for that matter a whole new name)? The original USS Defiant (in TOS) was NCC-1764. The USS Defiant was name twice in DS9 NX-74205 then NCC-75633 (São Paulo). Neither of the last 2 ships got suffix's. The USS Excalibar was NCC-1705 (in TOS) then was in TNG as NCC-26517(no suffix's). The USS Hood (in TOS) was NCC-1703 then in TNG was NCC-42296, no suffix. There is no correlation between name and registry number or succession, unless StarFleet purposely does so. The USS Enterprise 'A' was originally commission as the USS Ti-Ho (with it's own registry number), then was changed to honor the crew and the ship (thus the new name & suffix 'A'). If what you say is true every ship would eventually have a suffix, and that is just not demonstrably true. What has the Voyage done to be honored with a suffix?

    • @famseymour
      @famseymour 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's not how they work. Each ship in succession is name changing its registry. Often the registry starts without a letter and then gets added with the next ship to take the name/registry. Voyager, then Voyager-A and so on. It doesn't have to do with heroics or success.

      The registry number is a unique number, two ships can't have the same one, so when a ship is replaced with the same name and number, a suffix is used to differentiate them.
      It's no more complex than that.

      @@AdamArmstrong My larger point is why does the Voyager need a suffix? The ship could be name Voyager but with a different registry number. The USS Defiant, Hood, and Excalibar all names assigned to different ships with different registry. The USS Enterprise 'A' was originally commission as the USS Ti-Ho (with it's own registry number), then was changed to honor the crew and the ship (thus a new name & suffix 'A'). A saucer section that is the precursor to the pathfinder Class…a secondary hull that looks like the Bellerophon Class without the QSD…pylons from the Bellerophon…and Sovereign style warp nacelles. Not a huge fan. The Bellerophon Class straight up would have made more sense for a Voyager-A in my opinion.
