I just spec'd mine up last night and took it into Borg Disconnected. It was evaporating most of the Borg ships in one volley (from all my weapons). The HexCannon was showing 10k damage :O :) I usually drive Sci ships, but this thing is a lot of fun
Actually the unusual engine layout was due to the ship having an auxiliary warp drive in addition to to the main warp core I do believe according to the game lore
I remember reading when Dominion Wars came out that the Achilles was designed to go after ketracel white facilities. The pulse phaser cannons and forward torpedo launchers would blast the facility, while it had phaser arrays and the phalanx micro torpedo system were meant to engage any ships around. It’s an actually a pretty big ship at over 600 meters, so it really fits as a heavy cruiser.
Ive loved the Achilles design since I first saw her in the Dominion War game intro. My personal headcanon is that after defeats like what happened to the 7th Fleet almost on a daily basis Starfleet Command ordered a new class built. It needed to be just as manueverable as the Defiant-Class just as mean as a Sovereign and not as tall as the rest if the fleet. But she never truly got a chance to prove her agility and power.
I got Dominion Wars when it came out and theres a good game in there its just very buggy plus the Achilles class was meant to be this amazing powerful ship but it was really weak and would get destroyed easily due to poor AI. It was made for the game because Gizmo Industries couldnt use the Sovereign cause Activision had the TNG licence. Thomas Riker actually becomes captain (field promotion) of the Achilles after been saved from the Cardassians in the game.
I always think of it as a Whitestar if it was made by Starfleet. I always like a ship with an Arrow head shaped bow. Well the hero version of that ship in the old game had Captain Thomas Riker in command.
Perhaps remember why the ships needs the proper power. It has 8 micro quantum torps on its top section. Along with quad pulse cannons and 8 quantum torps regular lanchers. It needs major power
The in game lore for this ship was, it was supposed to take on qetracel white facilities without support. The only flaw I see in this is, without a cloaking device and quantum singularity drive like the Romulan D'Deridex, the Dominion would see this ship coming several sectors away. I'm sure a ship class like this would be as expensive to build as the Sovereign class, if not the Prometheus class. So, the Dominion would have hunted this ship down. I still love this class. With an working Micro Quantum Torpedo Phalanx, of course.
I played Dominion Wars once. Not because it was a bad game, it wasn't. The problem is that I could barely get it to run on my computer. It just wasn't compatible. That said, I've been waiting for the Achilles for years. I love the design and it's firepower. I could easily see it show up as a new ship in ds9. And the simple, bare design works for me. It reflects the war time era it was built for. Starfleet needed a ship that was fast, could fight and win then make it home. They skipped the fancy details to rush the ship into the war.
Escape pods: lack of them indicates that it's a much smaller crew. Overall shape: Like a white star and an inquiry class had a baby Windows: If it's a warship, I wouldn't want my quarters by the hull of the ship knowing that all my posessions could be blown out to space if the ship takes damage. Exploratory ship, yes, warship no...but get why they've done windows in order to keep the design continuity. Black strips on the spine: Maybe mega phasers? Pointing straight up but more concealed within the hull? Make it like a battlestar.
the phaser strip seems to be short so they dont pass within the inbuilt cannons on the saucer. ingame generally it looks awesome as you charge at your target opening up with your canons and then as you pass it by the phasers engage along the broadsides. but if you roll it does seem to have more phasers underneath. the sphere underneath at the rear is where the 360 arrays fire from if you have it equipped.
This is really just a flattened version of Voyager wih the nose cut off. I remember this one from almost 20 years ago, it's been around since almost the end of enterprise.
@trekyards Since it's come up a few times on various Videos on the Defiant-esque 6-8 glowing circles at the aft dorsal of the either ship respectively, I'm pretty sure I've seen them labelled as Plasma Vents, so they're part of the cooling systems of the ship. Makes sense, the Defiant at least had a warp core too powerful for a ship that size, Starfleet probably knew that before even beginning to build it, so probably had support systems incorporated to work at stablizing and controlling such a powerful reactor system.
I would absolutely love a remaster of Dominion Wars. I think the gameplay was way ahead of it's time especially since Gothic Armada was a hit and had very similar gameplay as did Nexus: The Jupiter Incident
I think a good rule for trek is red for relativistic and blue for FTL systems. The blue impulse could be tachyonic impulse/hyper-impulse or something like that. That is a good rule to go by because red is lower energy light and blue is higher energy or wavelength at least.
I played Dominion wars and yes it was amazing and in my opinion a bit ahead of it's time. The only Star Trek game I enjoyed more was "Orion Pirates" and "Star Trek Armada 1 and 2"
The first thing that came to mind when you were talking about you thought that the saucer was too simple, was one of the basic rules (you may even say one of the prime directives) from Gene Roddenberry is that Starfleet ships must always looks like Starfleet ships (or something to that effect). I like the saucer. The back end looks like an Akira and Voyager had a baby, and it really is a stretch for Federation design language. Don't get me wrong, it looks cool, but the saucer is what saves this and keeps is classically Star Trek/Starfleet. We'll just ignore for the moment that pure warships are also not supposed to be a thing, and that the Defiant was a drastic measure.
I love the game dominion war an this ship near the end was just bad ass with the phalanx quantum torps an defiants pulse cannons , I finally won the game an admiral Ross was so happy lol , took down the hutat at nothing , my 6 ships I controlled were 4 galaxy class an 2 of these , once I was able to build um , an we took Cardassia back , it’s a fun game , complete missions an make ships stronger love it but I need a new cd tho , this ship has plenty of phasers both normal an pulse , play it man , it takes some time but when u able to use it an make the galaxy class stronger , nothing not even the big bad battle ship of the dominion can’t beat it I took this ship an had the others protect it an I d hammer the big ones as they did with me an others that tried to catch up to me , this games just as much if not as much today cost wise as it was in the 90s , love it
You can repair shields , an other systems an it had bugs but was fun , I’d play for hours an im gonna re order one as soon as I can I bet todays lap tops will run the hell out of this game
I'm pretty sure i played that game or least knew it was out I had actually almost forgot about this class. Still think it's an interesting design. If you guys ever find out who designed it. I'd be down for video as I wouldn't mind hearing about their thought process as well. 🖖
The only issue I had with this ship in Dominion Wars was, the micro Quantum Torpedo Phalanx was bugged. Gizmo never fixed it. I heard a fan created a patch at some point to get the Phalanx to work, but I never found it. Now, getting that game to boot up on Windows 11 is difficult.
+13:19 I'm starting to think the entire back end is functionally 1 warp nacelle "loop". So the Plasma goes from twin warp cores out to the 1st pylon then into the nacelle, out of the second pylon.. though the super chargers and then into the "aft nacelle". (only no joke/mistake this time) So it is a very unusual 3 or 4 Nacelles design then. There isn't any real reason the nacelles have to be on the sides they can be on the top and bottom too or in this case the inner edge and the rear (like I say very unusual).. not out of keeping with the First Contact era fleet design though at all.
I don't like the shape of the Achilles secondary hull it makes the ship too flat and I don't understand why it curves in the n out at the end - looks ugly. Also I'm gonna have to be THAT guy but it is really bugging me: Typhon Tai.Fon: a monstrous serpentine giant and one of the deadliest creatures in Greek mythology Typhoon Tai.Foon: a typhoon is a tropical cyclone that develops between 180° and 100°E in the Northern Hemisphere I understand the mistake but Typhon and Typhoon are COMPLETELY different and the STO Carrier is called the Typhon!
So, it does have some flaws: 1.) Hexa phaser cannons face up, while torps face down. Very bad design having them that integrated with a slope! 2.) Impaired shuttle bay by design of the warp engine, the warp core interferes with the shuttle bay on the back. 3.) Upper Saucer Phaser arrays don't face forward, it's impossible for them to shoot directly forward. 4.) Lower Saucer Flat saucer - Bad fireing angles for phasers. The saucer is actually in the way for anything not directly underneath. It feels like the designers of modern ships don't think about the internal workings or actual combat.
Those six cannons at the front are the Hexa Cannons from the game. And they are really powerful.
I just spec'd mine up last night and took it into Borg Disconnected. It was evaporating most of the Borg ships in one volley (from all my weapons). The HexCannon was showing 10k damage :O :) I usually drive Sci ships, but this thing is a lot of fun

Loved playing this ship back in the old Dominion War game.
I loved dominion wars game! They gotta start making these kinda games again.
The first Starfleet war shovel.
Goes well with the Battle Spoon and Science Shoe.
It's Starfleet, so it should be multipurpose. That's no shovel... it's an e-tool.
Which is frankly scarier than just a shovel. :D

Dominion Wars was a great game with a solid story line

One of my all time favorites up with the sto Avenger class

That’s a great looking ship
An interesting design. Only things i would modify a bit is the saucer section and some surface details. I would totally choose this as my ship.
I still have this game. Maybe need to replay some time

the 6 details, 3 per side, on the spine of the ship are the VLS for micro quantumn torpedo launchers.
@@Hierachy Nice! 👍

it's just the B5 Whitestar in Starfleet design cues, you can see I'm onto somthing Right Cmdr Cockings
This ship is rather interesting. To ME is looks very recommences of seaQuest, especially the front part of the ship.

I've played it and I still have the game disc for it. Was great, a bit short though.

I owned Dominion Wars game and wrote the FAQ for it.
Nice! Good game?
@@SGUDistantHope eh... Average.
Says 600 meters long I hear
the back end of this ship is the white star from babylon 5.
Get the game guys an play it on a good rainy day you will love it

I think of it as the beestard child of the intrepid and defiant classes...
Don't remember seeing it looks like a runabout with a Voyager 2 haul
The ass end looks like a DeLorean
At first look to me, it looks like the evolution of the Voyager. I REALLY WISH STO WOULD HAVE BEEN AT ST:LV

It has 'white star' vibs in the 3/4 view
the drawing at 8:50 looks like a greek sword, i wonder if that has something to do with the name

missing RCS thrusters?

I can not stand a dreadnaught
I like the pylons
Dominion wars game could have been incredible but it was rushed and uber buggy 😢
I don't like it. It looks like a cross between Voyager, B5s White Star, and a garden spade.
Looks like the video was on mute so so couldn't hear it booked interesting though
Don’t like it! 🖖
