    I think it goes beyond just television, I think Gandolfini as Tony Soprano is the best performance I've ever seen. Incredible just how much he put into his role while always staying humble and remaining a loving man until the end. It's extremely comforting hearing literally no one who knew Gandolfini ever have a bad thing to say about him, he was truly loved by all.

      I watched it Freshman year of college when I was really going through it, learning about who Gandolfini was as a person and how fucked up his character was and the whole sopranos story unironically made me get a handle on a lot of my anger issues because it gave me a great representation what to be and what not to be and how a dude, even if its just fiction, could choose to be one or the other
      Good ass dude, the world is way less good with him gone

      I've watched the entire 6 season run at least 8 times. I think more. Once I start watching it, I invariably wind up binging the entire series. I always put it on when I'm not sure what I want to watch. My Mum always asks why I keep watching it when I've already seen it. That's a silly question. Why do Blu-rays exist I'd not to re-watch things that you've already scene? Lol.

    Greatest performance in SCREEN history - Tony Soprano’s character is more complex than anything portrayed in cinema as well. Live theater can be excluded, but easily the greatest performance on screen by anyone. Only Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock Holmes on ITV/Granada comes close. Which is ALSO why Sopranos and Gandolfini’s performance in it are both consistently at the top of British TV and actor rankings of all time. And the Brits do know theater and acting.

    I've just finished The Sopranos recently for the first time. It took me a few episodes to get used to it, but then it got addictive. I'd say that almost each character was iconic in the show, but Tony Soprano was something else. James Gandolfini really took it to the next level, one of my favorite portrayals of all time. He was taken away too soon unfortunately.

    I think he had alot of Tony's anger within himself. He couldnt show it or act on it because deep down hes a pure heart but we get angry sometimes. Some of us store it until we explode, im pretty sure Tony's role was theraputic to a degree because of how realistic it was and how polar opposite it is from how we always see James. Its honestly admirable how much he dove into this character, he always did 100% every scene almost like he felt he wouldnt get another season if he didnt preform to his fullest capacity. He would put his body through so much for a role, and most people wouldnt, but he felt this role was too special he had to do everything in his power to keep him on screen until his role was finished.

    I’m so glad I saw this cause your talking about a masterful tour de force performances!! He played one of the most badass characters ever & never once did he go too far or not far enough. A lot of people take roles like this so they look cool. So they get looked at like they are the actual character & you can tell. James never once came off phony or tried too hard & he has some seriously physical imposing scenes in every episode. I can’t understand how he nailed it every time Perfectly. Every time!! Words cannot express how impressive he was in this & I Fuckn hate that James is gone!!! Hate hate hate it! His masterful performance should be studied by up & comers so they can see how you do it honestly & without ego. You can’t do it any better than him. Sucks that he’s gone man. A mafia boss & never tried to make it himself to look cool. I can’t stress that enough. He never ever faked it once. I may not be explaining what I wanna say clear enough sorry.
    Love you James……

      Without a doubt. I was young when it came out and it was just a really good gangster show to me. Now that I’m older I notice David Chase’s nuances and deep themes which made the show truly great.
      The casting was perfect and every actor went above and beyond to bring their own uniqueness to each character. And as for Gandolfini, possibly the greatest performance of all time. Watch the scene where Uncle Junior shoots Tony in the stomach. Gandolfini displayed the shock and pain of a gunshot victim better than anyone I’ve ever seen. Very tough to do.
      Just a great performance.

  • @aliensconfirmed3498
    @aliensconfirmed3498 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Lot of people see acting in the intensity but what makes Gandolfini's performance incredible is not the intensity but rather the nuance, the subtlety. Even in simplest scene when nothing intensely dramatic is happening, you can look at his face and see exactly what's he thinking or how is he feeling. Writers too take the credit for that detailed portrayal obviously. I mean for the actor to portray in depth emotions the writers have to have those things clear in their mind. Many incredible performances in the show and credit to both writers and actors. But irrespective of writing, to do arguably the best performance ever is not everyone's job.

    I didn't pay any mind to the Sopranos the year it came out. As an Italian from NJ, I thought it was going to be another stupid TV thing that makes Jersey look ridiculous. (Like the Jersey Shore clowns). Sometime after the 2nd season my grandmother bought me the complete set of seasons 1 and 2. Once I gave it a chance I was hooked. From then on I watched every episode every Sunday religiously. All these years later I'm still watching. The greatest TV performances of all time. I even saw on a menu in a little mountain town in Central Italy, a sandwich named the Tony Soprano. His role will forever be the bar every other character actor will be chasing. RIP my fellow New Jerseyan, James Gandolfini.

    I can't disagree with anything in this video. James Gandolfini was an amazing actor. It's interesting hearing Michael Imperoli, who played Christopher Moltisanti, describe how Tony was originally supposed to come across as fatherly and understanding to Christopher. Instead, Gandolfini played Tony as angry and imposing. One would think of a mob boss as pretty menacing to begin with, but Gandolfini ramped up those traits to 11. Ironically though what made Tony interesting and unique was that he also infused Tony Soprano with a humanity and a vulnerability that made the viewer sympathize, empathize and even love him, regardless of what horrible acts he committed during the course of the series.
    Brain Cranston did something similar with Walter White/Heisenburg on Breaking Bad. He could be evil, but you sympathized with him and found yourself rooting for him. I loved both shows, but Sopranos was and still is by far my favorite show ever and James Gandolfini is a major , if not the major reason why The Sopranos is so beloved. He is missed.

    I know of a few paparazzi who would disagree that he’s the exact opposite of Tony Soprano. RIP Jim, gone too soon but never forgotten.

    The Sopranos is not something so trivial as "TV". It's a multilayered piece of art. Stunningly well casted. Oscar winning acting by multiple cast members. Absolutely amazing writing and direction. The Sopranos will only get more legendary over time. Of course it would be nothing without James Gandolfini.

    Hey, great video! You're voice lends some real gravitas to what you say, you just got one of those voices that would make me feel like anything I'm listening to you talk about is profound in some way. What an unexpected treat coming across this!
    I used to be in the Army a lifetime ago and my unit went to Iraq for what was the second rotation back in 2004-2005. I was stationed in a place called Tikrit where Saddam was born, and while we were there the SRO would sometimes get various celebrities to visit our shithole of a FOB. Part of the cast of The Sopranos came in late November when I just so happened to be on leave back home for two weeks, they drew names in alphabetical order so I actually got to be home for Thanksgiving. While that was great, I'd still have loved to have met James Gandolfini and co. I think I heard that Paulie was there, too. But, everyone was fucking talking about how cool Gandolfini was. He came in and had his classic cigar, and he was the one and only gentleman who was allowed to smoke inside the building we stayed in. So he was making rounds with that big ass cigar and really went out of his way to talk to every soldier there, and while our FOB was a bit smaller than most that's still a lot of people. From what everyone said the guy was just very generous with his time and actually seemed happy to be there, which wasn't always the case. Vince Vaughn came one, and he was also incredibly cool, but he had a reaction that many other celebs seemed to share when he first arrived where he just looked kinda sad as if the thought crosses their minds of, "So, what the fuck, people actually live here?" lol But yeah, James Gandolfini seemed to be a man who was able to keep his ego firmly in check, which is no small feat for an actor of his caliber and fame. What a legend.

      Thank you for the kind words! And that’s so badass! I heard about the troop visits but the fact that he was able to fit in so easily just adds to his charm. What a guy!

    • @johnnybensonitis7853
      @johnnybensonitis7853 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Renzy_YT Hey, thanks for reading my comment! It got kinda long-winded there but when the hell could I tell that story? haha Yeah, he really left an impression on people that doesn't typically happen. To be fair, celebs that visit troops like that often visit multiple FOBs in a short amount of time, so there's the stress and pressure from the time constraint yet they still need to keep the positive energy going so they don't appear as if it's a burden on them to be there. Not Gandolfini, though! From everything I heard it seems like he could have been on vacation to the casual observer, which I think really speaks to his character. Thanks again for the vid and response, can't wait to see more content!
