I did this for 20 Years. You live in 5 star hotels and everything is free. This is what you long for, a Sunday Roast dinner with family, sitting in a pub with a bunch of old friends and after a couple of years in a hot country walking in the UK parks in autumn.
you dont rent a flash car and visit for the memorial/fourth/labor trio? possibly bring in a girl that looks good sunning? oh, uk. yeah, that place sucks.
Did it for 2 years, my last "trip" was 3 weeks long, I got home and hugged my bed, made the call and quit as my business was making enough money by then. Clocks always ticking in that life
Just the smooth motions and how he knows after hundreds (thousands?) Of flights exactly what to do to get through everything quick and easy. Just love this sequence down to the excellent camera work.
I am this guy, but have perfected it even more than he has. I spend so much time flying for work. Online check in, walk through security (Global Entry), my rental car is waiting (no paperwork), hotel room ready, etc. I am so at home in the air. As soon as I reach the airport to begin a long business trip (sometimes months on end), I know I am home. I actually feel out of place when I’m not traveling. I love it.
Pugilistmuaythai most people don’t understand that traveling actually makes life easier. Your bed is always made, room is always clean, food is already prepared, rental car is always clean, meetings already booked, etc etc. You’re just along for the ride so enjoy!
Meh, I've lived and do live this life and I can attest that it's not as glamorous as you and others might make it sound. I got TSA Pre-check clearance, priority check-in with airlines and hotels, etc etc. but this also comes at a cost: missed birthdays, missed holidays with the family, a sense of disconnectedness with others and so on. It can be great, for some, but it all depends on how much you're willing to give up in life.
hyethga I never said it was glamorous. It’s not. Just a unique profession that few ever understand or appreciate. Some people never leave the state they live in while we’ve seen most if not all.
I too was this guy at one time but before 911. No cell phone, my pager was bigger then a cell phone today. I too loved when you got to the hotel and they said Welcome back Mr Smith and even more I loved the concierge level in the hotel.. People in elevator would be in awe. I dont miss working but man I did so love the travel. Just happy I got to experience it for a while.
I been flying a little the last 4 months. Nothing crazy as long as you just bring your wet wipes, sanitizer, extra paper masks if needed, tissues, a charger and just essentials
This character is me in every sense: -I love to travel -very efficient -lacks patience -keep possessions and relationships to a minimum cuz they wear me down. I love being FREE -arrogant/narcissistic but deep down that’s a cover for my insecurities -afraid of not being in control, cuz the minute I let my guard down and give someone a chance they disappoint me I love this movie, I can relate
I can forgive continuity issues like that or a boom mic creeping into the frame if the shot is quick. I think editors see those mistakes and realize that they have to minimize the number of people who see them during the first viewing and let it ruin any future viewings.
Same. I just started working as a field engineer and immediately came back to this movie to see how close it resembled my current lifestyle. Needless to say it was very identical
Flew all over the country and the world for 25 years, have not boarded a plane in 5 years and have not missed it. Also, the American Airlines scene about 10 million miler status is not true.
The worst part about flying is when they stopped boarding from the rear rows of the plane to the front rows and went to the "priority system"...now it takes 10x as long to get everyone situated.
+Johnny Utah in which country are you referring to? - In the US, ive never had my carry-on weighed. The security and airlines usually just care about the size of the bag as per the strict measuring boxes seen recently
He wasn't a marine, bu that's my dad! I remember getting back from school one day and he told me all about it. The director was looking for an intimidating looking person to do the check for that scene, so they looked around, found him and asked if he'd wanna do it. He got to meet Clooney, got some instructions for what to do and the rest is history! I think he still has the signed copy of the DVD that was sent to him after the filming was complete. It's one of his favorite memories from working at TSA.
With TSA Pre-Check nowadays, it's almost as fast. But some of the amenities shown here (the employee saying hello to him and apparently not having to wait in any line, for example) are a bit exaggerated. There are now kiosks however where, if you're not flying international and have nothing to check in, you can print out your tickets and walk straight to the security line.
Mr BrightSide it literally takes me 5 minutes from curbside to the gate. Use Global Entry, only pack for carry on, and online check in the day before. I literally walk from curbside, through security, grab a coffee, and an at the gate in 5 min. I do it for a living.
depends on time of day and airport. even with precheck and GE, which everyone has now thanks to the points churner blogs good luck getting through JFK in under 20 mins.
The reality of air travel is it doesn’t matter what your status level is. If you’re flying commercial you are just as susceptible to the the inconveniences of everyone else there . Your AA platinum pro won’t help you.
Why doesn’t his character have TSA Precheck?? Also pre-printed boarding passes. People who actually travel a ton arrive at the airport 20 minutes before takeoff and walk directly to the gate making no stops elsewhere
@@danieledwards6032 actually they both were but only very new (and instead of TSA Precheck I should have said Global Entry). I could understand if they were too new for him to have but it could’ve been a nice touch for the filmmakers to add to his character if they’re trying to present him as a heavy traveler. Well, when terrorists hijack a couple of your planes and fly them into buildings resulting in 6000+ casualties, you'd probably feel the need to up your airport security as well.

I was always incredibly impressed with the laptop compartment he had.
Surprised he didn't have TSA Precheck. Then I realized the movie came out in 2009 and that system wasn't introduced till 2013.
@@sson386 also the hotel has a light switch and the light doesn't just go out when you remove your room card.
It's not hard. I never travel with more than a backpack. I'm NOT paying 40, 50, 60 dollars to carry my own stuff. Ridiculous.

_Up in the Air_ convinced me to always go through airports with finesse.
Collateral convinced me to go through airports in sunglasses
This sequence is just so fricking satisfying...
Watching this is satisfying
Pen Pineapple Apple Pen damn true
Totally
This is actually the most comfortable and interesting scene to watch in whole movie

What's your job?
I like how this is shot and edited like it's an action scene
Whatching this is more than satisfying
I watch this clip when I am traveling and before I go to security check. I follow the steps in and out like that every time.
The sounds are so ASMRish
I am trying to think of similar scenes from other movies where you just see neat, organized and satisfying stuff haha
The opening scenes of Stranger Than Fiction come to mind.
Mindhunter montage!
The Matrix when Agent Smith is sifting through Neo's paperwork.

Agreed
At least you admit you are a conceited narcissist.
The editing of his packing, unpacking for the TSA, and repacking are so satisfying.

what a satisfying scene
Traveling in Asia is a pain when families bring half a years shopping with them.
Swag overload
Why is he taking off his shoes he should be TSA precheck
Andrew Michie it was 2009.
Didn’t exist then.
In america I had to take shoes off two years ago
I never see any cheap shushi at any airport. Mostly expensive and not so good.
Probably more about the quality than the actual price.
In the lounge buddy.
lol fuck this is literally me.
Cheap sushi! Lol
He'd totally have precheck if it was available
Exactly how I travel.

Recycled air, artificial lighting, and cheap sushi

Clooney didn't have TSApre? I dont have to take my shoes off and my laptop stays in the bag. Old-timer
TSA Pre didn't exist when this movie was made I don't think. This was released in 2009.

ahh the days before TSA-Pre

i want to be like him, YOu're fired and I'll never see you again
Now, boarding passes are on your phone
At least you don't have to carry your boarding pass through security anymore.
If you have to faff at an airport, you have failed at flying. Prepare your stuff to move quickly!
Airlines these days restrict hand luggage to a maximum of 20lbs, so his arrangement is impossible.
+Johnny Utah in which country are you referring to? - In the US, ive never had my carry-on weighed. The security and airlines usually just care about the size of the bag as per the strict measuring boxes seen recently
Most restrict it to 50 lbs. or so. 20 lbs. is nothing.
Not to mention he's flying business.
This was 2009..
If homeboy is paying for business class and is a concierge key member; AA would let him do whatever he wants short of flying the airplane
You telling me my man Bingham does't even have TSA Precheck? Or Clear? Lol
While this movie was made in 2009, if we ever saw a sequel you know damn well production will certainly add that detail 😂
