Much more often they are affected power supplies and video cards, when it becomes unbearable as in this case the ultimate solution is to replace the inductors.
That is some serious soldering skill. So clean and even!

@@danrafferty5365 Yes, but as you can see from the video it requires specialist equipment. A board heater, high powered soldering iron, hot air solder rework tool etc. Plus you need the skill to use it. You also need to pinpoint which inductor(s) are making the noise, and find replacements for them,
Now try doing it on 2080ti founders edition and you will label as a hero.

@snapdragon64k-47 Orbital Thats because while its annoying, it doesnt degrade the longevity or performance of the motherboard/graphics card/etc so manufactueres just keep doing it and using the same thing, probably to save money and cut costs as opposed to using better or higher quality components

@@keppycs Bingo why oh why do the video card AIBs not sell a coil whine free 4090 card and charge a premium. I would have purchased it and paid the premium a while back and been done with it rather than a 3.5 month ordeal of trying to get a whine free 4090 setup and spend more money selling and returning and hassle and such. I have tried like 14 different 4090s and all have too much whine/buzz. Even Gigabyte which is supposedly better than others. The Gigabyte Gaming OC is just much less bad, but is not actually good with coil whine. Its good compared to other 4090 AIB cards but that is it. But all 4090s have bad whine/buzz/chainsaw noise form coils this gen.
So here I am researching this as I want a quiet 4090 card and to call it a day so badly. and be done with it as I am expecting an OLED TV for my birthday for 4K gaming and need a 4090 for great gaming in 4K experience when near maxing out settings on many AAA games.

Thanks for showing the solution and the root cause. I wish I had these extreme soldering skills, but I don't. Instead I will have to make sure to be careful and never select Italian language on my motherboard LOL.
Good repair.... Try a chisel tip... It will put more heat in the joint.

Did you replaced the inductors by the same inductors? Or are the New ones higher quality so they are less loose inside their housing?
I took the inductances from another broken motherboard that didn't work but when it worked don't whistle. The inductances have the same values .

I have an older 42" flat screen tv a friend gave me. In standby it does a horrible coil whine. Probably take it apart here soon and see if they're potted or if not maybe I can glue it.

How do you know what coil to replace it with. I have a socket 5 Intel Advanced/EV Motherboard and the coil whine is unbearable. it'd solder a new one on but I don't know what to replace it with. I'm assuming different coil has different specification's ??

Can this be done on a Laptop? My Thinkpad T420 is suffering from a severe form of Coil Whine, almost as bad as the one shown in your video
My T420 doesn't have this problem... Maybe send it in for a replacement?

I have this crap in my 1080TI to the point it even affects the audio coming out of my headphones. It's nearly making me go crazy to the point of trying this on the GPU.

I am very close to trying this on an RTX 4090. I so badly want a coil whine/buzz/chainsaw noise free 4090. Why oh why can't the AIBs and NVIDIA themselves created one and just charge an extra $500 to $1000 for it. They have a buyer in me. Instead its a lottery and only rare unicorns assuming they even exist are immune.

If its doing everything he requires it to do whats the point in upgrading it? This was an extremely cheap fix to a very annoying problem.
