Currently building a K6-3 450 machine 🥰

Ich finde den Vergleich sehr Interessant, bei der Sockel 7 Plattform habe ich damals bis zum K6-3+ 550 aufgerüstet. War damals eine sehr teure Angelegenheit. Das Mainboard war das gleiche und beim Arbeitsspeicher hatte ich Infineon Riegel mit 3x256MB. Die letzte Grafikkarte die in dem System lief war eine Voodoo5 5500 AGP gepaart mit einer Creative Sound Blaster Live Platinum. Die HDD war eine 4,3 GB Hitachi oder WD.

The Duron was very entry-level and frankly, a neutered processor. However, if you unlocked its multiplier (the graphite pen trick), increased its FSB speed and sync'ed the RAM controller's speed with it, you could get HUGE performance improvements - as in, 15 to 35% performance boost. I had a Duron 950 (100x9.5); clocking it at 1000 (133x7.5) with 256 Mb of DDR2-266 (on a KT266A motherboard) and CL2-3-3T1 timings would yield impressive performance improvements over the default of unsync'ed RAM and slow bus speed. I also ran it at 933 (7x133) and it would still perform magnificently while remaining much cooler. I could clock it faster, but it would heat up a lot then.

Nice, not an AWE 32 btw, but a Sound Blaster 32 card, the 32 is a slightly lower end card from the AWE 32.

At what temperature did you set for hot air station and soldering iron as well for how much time as well?? Mine is just not getting melting though😅 .

I myself compared a Duron 1000 on the Gigabyte GA-7IXEH (VIA KT133E) and Pentium III 1000 on the Abit VP6 (VIA Apollo Pro 133A), and with everything else the same (PSU, RAM, reference spec GF2 MX400, Windows 98SE and drivers including chipset) the Duron outperformed the PIII, with the difference in raw CPU performance being even greater in CB2003 (I also have a Duron 1300 and it scores identically in CB2003). Duron couldn't run on my 145W or 200W PSU however, so I still prefer using Pentium III (far easier to cool as well).

This needs to be benched and compared with other S939 cpu's on the board and compete against a 6000+ on regular AM2 boards. I'd be very interested to see the impact on CPU Scores in 3DMark or some games like FEAR and Crysis especially.

Always knew that the Duron's fell short to the Coppermine/Tualatin Celeron's and PIII's . AMD did bring value to the Duron, but it was late in the game when the first Willamette's appeared. The Tualatin's could still mop the floor with the early Socket A processors. Things didn't get better for AMD until the Barton/Thoroughbred processors came to market.

Celeron is tualatin core. Much better ofc. If you choosed a celeron based on netburst it would loose.

How do you know what coil to replace it with. I have a socket 5 Intel Advanced/EV Motherboard and the coil whine is unbearable. it'd solder a new one on but I don't know what to replace it with. I'm assuming different coil has different specification's ??

I am very close to trying this on an RTX 4090. I so badly want a coil whine/buzz/chainsaw noise free 4090. Why oh why can't the AIBs and NVIDIA themselves created one and just charge an extra $500 to $1000 for it. They have a buyer in me. Instead its a lottery and only rare unicorns assuming they even exist are immune.
