    Thanks for the video. No need to sand at all. Scrape as much filler/spackle up as you can from the wall to leave only as much filler a that is required and just use a wet rag (wringed out) with appropriate pressure applied with you hand to even the surface. This preserves the texture as well without sanding as well. The filler/spackle is water soluble on Dap and other brands.

    How much do you overlap your lines? An inch? And third stroke down immediately? If I wait will it cause lines? Also do you cut or roll first?

    • @doityourselfbri
      @doityourselfbri  7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      In the application of the paint I generally overlap 1 " for about 3 rows, than go over the same rows smoothing out the paint overlapping 6", when smoothing out the paint always go in the same direction (basically when rolling a wall your applying the paint to the wall first (fairly heavy) and 2nd is not really to add any paint its more to smooth it out and get a even looking texture) the paint will have a slightly different texture to it rolling up verse down which will cause a difference in appearance, enough that you can generally see the roller mark... Additionally waiting to smooth out the paint more than about the space of 3 or 4 rolls will cause a variation to texture and even color, because as the paint starts to dry it pulls away from your roller nap differently causing a slightly different look. The key is, apply the paint and smooth it all out the same way, which will give the entire wall a very even texture and color. Giving it a beautiful look... I would suggest watching the part in my video where I do the rolling a couple times just so that it hopefully makes sense... And yes cut in first, you can generally get a better look when doing this so that you can roll over the paint lines with a roller nap (as much as possible) to give the wall a matched look without as many brush lines.
      I hope this answered your questions, let me know how I can help!
      Good Luck with your next project!
      (always keep in mind when rolling a wall, you will see uneven roller lines in the wall until it dries, if you apply it correctly when the paint completely dries the roller lines will go away)

    Can someone do a white wall please. I have no issue with colours but doing corners and then matching it with the roller is a fukn nightmare !!!!!! Also how do you guys have so much paint on the rollers ? My roller fukn has no paint after like one up and down.

    • @themoreyouknow5784
      @themoreyouknow5784 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to do two coats bro. Even the paint that says "covers in one coat" needs two coats unless you're using a color very similar to the existing one. Occasionally you can get away with two cuts one roll because the brush generally puts paint on lighter than the roller. But there are so many different size roller sleeves, brushes, and materials used for both that also effect the coverage.

    Hello Bri. I find your diy videos extremely helpful. I am currently trying to decide on which paint brand to buy. Which brand do you like? We are looking to paint an entire house. I'm leaning toward Benjamin Moore, but that will get pricey. Suggestions? Thanks!

    if you used primer over your sanded spots first and then paint it covers better doesn't it?

    • @doityourselfbri
      @doityourselfbri  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it does... Most of the popular paints have primer built in... However no paint beats a primer for its primer quality

    As a boatswain's mate, I would recommend you just throw a 5 gallon on the wall. Itll take 5 seconds and itll dry. Eventually.

    Nice video, but you could save yourself a lot of time with sanding by simply taking the back side of the putty knife and indenting the holes is the wall so when you apply the spackle and scrape it you would never even know. That's what pro's do!

    always water down paint befeore touching up filler/plaster, paint he is using can be used as primer but needs watered down, will work fine without but the poor sod that has to paint after will find the paint willl crack and stick to his roller

    DO NOT HAMMER YOUR DRYWALL!! Just scrap anything that isn't flush with the wall. The putty will fill it in. Repairing hammer damage is a much more time consuming process.

    Don't use a hammer use the head of a carriage bolt and tap it with a hammer or the handle of your 3" drywall knife and use drywall mud in a tray way faster
