It's 2024, and in the last 3 years, there are two new "ways" to run minishells in the Mossberg pump shotguns. The first, which came out in 2021ish, is the 590S by Mossberg. This way to run minishells was achieved by taking the "rubber" concept pioneered by OPSol, and putting that rubber at the very back or the receiver. The goal of Mossberg was to have a shotgun that can run any length shell without an adapter. Mossberg "redesigned" the 500 platform to do this and call it the 590S. The entirety of that redesign was to allow you to put minishells and regular shells into the same mag tube, and fire them. So for an extra $100 as of today at Academy, you can have that capability. In a home defense shotgun, where your family members may be the ones using the shotgun, what is more likely......you practice with a specific round with expected recoil and penetration, and load the gun with those (mini or long), or you put in a variety of multi length rounds with a variety of recoil responses. The second way to do it was developed by Defender Tactical. This option basically mimics what Mossberg did, but can be inserted into the gun. In both cases, the "rubber" is at the back of the receiver, so that minishell and full length shells can be run at the same time. What both solutions DO NOT DO is actually transform a 3" wide receiver (to handle 2.75" long shells) into a 1.6"ish receiver to handle 1.5" minishells. As a result, there is about 1.4" of "rattle room". When under a real defense scenario, where you or your family may be racking the gun hard, in odd positions such as barrel up, or around a corner where the ejection port may be facing down, the mini shells move around, flip, and sometime fall out of the ejection port. Every pump shotgun made, including the KSG, that allows a minishell to rattle around, will flip shells. That extra rattle room is always present. Put another way, if in this world, only minishells existed, a pump shotgun would have a 1.6" receiver, not a 3" receiver. A full length shell needs a full length receiver, and a minishell needs a mini receiver. Only the OPSol Flex adapter transforms a Mossberg 500 (Mav 88, 500, 590, 590A1, Shockwave) receiver to a mini receiver.
Theses shells were made for the Mossberg Shockwave and Mossberg Covert 10.5” Bbl pump with the OPSol in place. Higher capacity Reduced recoil Fun on a bun.
Only reason for the one hung shell was because the ejection port was facing up for demonstration purposes. This will not happen with the weapon in normal operating position.

Nice video! I've been running the minis in my Kel-Tec KSG with no problems. I do have a Mossberg 500 and have placed an OPSol on order. As I watched this video, I got to thinking: What if Mossberg shortened their action so that it would only take the minis? It sounds like that would make a nice home defense shotgun with high capacity but much lower recoil - something less intimidating and easier for many more people to handle. Nice, handy, lightweight? Call it the "Mini 500". Maybe a small semi-auto version? FWIW, the ballistics for the mini slugs seems far superior to any handgun round as well as the 223 Remington: The Aguila Mini slug diam is .729", it's weight is 382 grains and it's velocity is 1300fps. That's 1434 ft/lbs of muzzle energy!
If minishells come into more widespread use than maybe they would make a mini shell only shotgun, however they have made the 590s which feeds the mini shells as well as normal length shells with no adapter needed.

@Zach Mueller Sure thing, I get that. I mainly bought it for the mossberg 590 shockwave that I have and it works very well in that, I just didn't have it in hand yet when I did this video. Most of the shooting I did at the range with this opsol mini clip was in the shockwave and I had no issues with it. With the clip installed and using the mini-shells it increases the capacity of the shockwave from 5 to like 8 or 9 rounds. The other added benefit of using the mini-shells in the shockwave is that it greatly reduces recoil in shooting that little firearm. As I mentioned earlier though, I would stick with the mini-slugs or the buckshot shells if you were to use if for self defense. I just think the birdshot shells wouldn't have enough stopping power.
Just search opsol mini-clip on google. I think brownells sells them and opsol even has a website of their own now. I got mine on amazon, but they don’t appear to sell them there any longer.
Zed Hiro yes, you're right. Fortunately though it takes only a few seconds to install or remove it. I mainly bought it to try in one of the new mossberg shockwaves, but thought I'd try it in this until I get the shockwave.
Yeah, I think there were some people copying the design and selling them on amazon so the company Opsol only sells them on their website now. opsolmini-clip.com/product/opsol-mini-clip-2-0-flex/ and yeah, I use one on my shockwave, works great.
It is kinda odd. When I bought some years ago they were about the same cost as 2 3/4 shells, now they are quite a bit higher. May just be a supply and demand issue and once Aguila gets production of them back up, maybe they'll come back down. I did notice that when these adapters were introduced at shot show last year, the shells began selling out all over. I did notice they are becoming more available now though.
Oh yeah, it worked great in the shotgun I used in this video, and a 590 shockwave (which is why I bought it). There's a video on my channel of it's function in this shotgun.
No, this is specifically made to fit mossberg shotguns. I don't own a remington, so I'm only going from what I've read online, but my understanding is that the 870 will cycle the aguilla mini-shells without one of these.
#1. stop holding your shotgun sideways while racking. #2. make sure you buy the OPSol Mini-Clip 2.0 Flex there is a knock off out there for about $8 that does not work.
The holding of the shotgun like that was for the video, so you, the viewer could see it in action, obviously I wouldn’t hold it like this while actually using it.

My 500 a is a 8+1 also
Is there one for remington
no sadly
Please where can I get it?
Just search opsol mini-clip on google. I think brownells sells them and opsol even has a website of their own now. I got mine on amazon, but they don’t appear to sell them there any longer.
SO CAN U USE THE RUBBER PIECE WTH REGULAR SHELLS 2 3/4- 3 IN?
NO TOMMY HILFIGER, THIS THAT RALPH LAUREN no, it’s only for the aguilla mini shells, fortunately though it takes seconds to install/remove.
So the gun will not work with standard shells with the conversion in place? Is it an all or nothing sort of thing?
Zed Hiro yes, you're right. Fortunately though it takes only a few seconds to install or remove it. I mainly bought it to try in one of the new mossberg shockwaves, but thought I'd try it in this until I get the shockwave.
Zed Hiro The range today when
Wtf they don’t sell it anymore can’t find it. I thought perfect for my shockwave
Yeah, I think there were some people copying the design and selling them on amazon so the company Opsol only sells them on their website now. opsolmini-clip.com/product/opsol-mini-clip-2-0-flex/
and yeah, I use one on my shockwave, works great.
There good training rounds
Ray Johnson Good in home defense. Reduced over penetration
Whats the point of minishells they are more expensive then regular shells.
Uh.....more rounds!
will it work for a h&r partnr 12g?
uriel thomas it’s designed specifically for the mossberg 500/590 series so I doubt it, but I don’t have a pardner to try it on so I’m not sure.
H&R partner is a blend of an 870 action and a mossberg barrel. Won't work unfortunately.
You need the Olson mini clip !!!!!
that looks way better than the clip type
It works well, I had no issues with it at the range, just haven't had an opportunity to put a video up about it. I didn't know there was another type.
Here is a animation video on how the OPSol adapter works in Mossbergs.
th-cam.com/video/kbD6Yh0Ou58/w-d-xo.html
Where's the link?
Nice video...
Thanks for watching.
Nice. Have you tried it yet? I have a 590 that I'm wanting to try this in and was just curious. Thumb's up video!
Oh yeah, it worked great in the shotgun I used in this video, and a 590 shockwave (which is why I bought it). There's a video on my channel of it's function in this shotgun.
Works flawlessly in any Mossberg I own. Crazy capacity. Fun to shoot the little rascals. Will not work in Silencerco Salvo 12 as they have no wad.
holding it sideways is why it malfunctioned
James Moorer perhaps, may have been, it works great on the range I know that.
My maverick 88 and mossberg 500 malfunctioned 90% of the time using these rounds without the adapter regardless of how I held the gun.
With the OPSol they work flawlessly in all my Mossbergs
Thanks
Thankyou.
Can this Opsol mini clip works on Remington 870. Please reply...
No, this is specifically made to fit mossberg shotguns. I don't own a remington, so I'm only going from what I've read online, but my understanding is that the 870 will cycle the aguilla mini-shells without one of these.
Thanks!
454pakr you're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Buy the adapter direct from the company to prevent getting a cheap Chinese knockoff.
A good cheap copy and I have one on the way.
Just so you know, it's pronounced Ah-gee-lah. Means eagle in Spanish. Just helping out, I know it's an older video but just for future reference.
I had a bad experience with opsul
pls tell 4b$ we buy one TY poorer than joe dirt
Hello
#1. stop holding your shotgun sideways while racking. #2. make sure you buy the OPSol Mini-Clip 2.0 Flex there is a knock off out there for about $8 that does not work.
The holding of the shotgun like that was for the video, so you, the viewer could see it in action, obviously I wouldn’t hold it like this while actually using it.
@@darink300zx Was joking,😎 thanks for the video. And Merry Christmas
@@daymonlindsey8150 ok, cool, you’d be surprised how many comments I’ve got like that that were not as kind as yours and I don’t think they were kidding. Lol. Merry Christmas to you as well!
Wouldn't stay put in my 590. Too squishy. I'm sure if it were made with a harder rubber compound or urethane it would be perfect. It was a waste of time for me.
That’s interesting. I have two and both work great in my 500, 590 shockwave, and a maverick 88. There was a comment a while back that someone was selling knockoff ones on amazon that weren’t made by opsol, could you have gotten one of these by mistake?
@@darink300zx That may very well be. I tend to use Amazon for the free shipping though I don't remember where I purchased it. I have since bought the Defender adapter that I haven't had problems with as yet.
@@Katya5cat the Amazon knockoffs had all sorts of issues.
It would probably work better if you had the gun held up and down and not on its side
I did that for the video so that it could be seen. It did work 100% at the range in this shotgun and in a 590 shockwave.
Gas mask scoop
" I got it on" 😮 whoops "I'm gonna put it on safe" 😅
I would not trust that with my life
Can i use the adapter w My Dickinson Commando 12gauge ?
It’s made specifically for the mossberg action. I’m not familiar with the commando but from watching a video review of it, it doesn’t appear to be a clone of the mossberg, so I doubt it.
