I have a friend like Mike who is a great rider and a superb lead rider as well. It’s massively taken the pressure off some of the bigger days out and tours etc 😎 Great video as always 👍🏻👍🏻
I was stationed in Germany in the 80s and I remember the looks of the locals when they saw me riding in winter. 'Crazy Englander". Oh and them not letting you past when filtering, that would be because its against the law in Germany to filter past moving traffic. You can filter past stationary traffic, but in certain states (Bavaria for example) the local drivers will also block you in stationary traffic.
Back in the seventies when based in Scotland 🏴, we didn’t have layering to keep us warm , so we stuffed papers under our leathers , we still froze , but we had something to read when we stopped 🤪😂😂😂😂
You shouldn’t be really filtering in moving traffic anyway ,unless it’s moving very slowly or stopped & you are proceeding at very slow speed using extreme caution .
Great !! Really loved this one. The humour back and forth had me in stitches. Your laugh is infectious Kate, your going to have to find another place for your feet, maybe in the panniers 🤔 left one in left pannier ,right one in the other side. Won’t loose track of them that way 👍 shame about the seat. It won’t mess up the trip thought. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
That was great fun to be part of (well, sort of…) - your giggling is worth the ticket price alone! Bravo for the extreme temp riding (especially Mike!). 👍😎
Great film...gutsy in that weather. One of the reasons they move over is for emergency vehicles. They have been taught to spilt to the sides to let them down the middle when the traffic slows or stops like that..
So if you running into traffic in Germany and all or most of the cars spread to the left and to the right, this is called "Rettungsgasse" or rescue alley for the ambulance or police cars and unfortunately not for motorcycles. Here in Germany lane filtering is (of cause) not allowed. :-) But thank you for such a big winter tour video. Can't wait for the weather to get better again.
In the netherlands it’s allowed (as in, it’s not forbidden by law), not sure in belgium. But we do have a unspoken rule of not going faster than 30mph. The digital traffic signs above the road will say 50 kph anyway which is the max speed at that moment. And also keeping the speed difference not more than 10km/h. So we wouldn’t filter with 50mph!
They are moving over to form an rettungsgasse, a lane for emergency vehicles. Bikes are not allowed to filter trough this lane i Germany. In Belgium, cars have to form this lane and bikers are allowed to use it to filter.
in GErmany!they always teach when you are doing first time your car driver licence, that car driver must be aware for motorcycle drivers!!this is why they open!! the road for you!! the problem is that is not allwed to pass the cars this way!! always from left side!!
Nice video. Brrrr does look cold. Oh dear losing the cover oooohh nooo. I did same from MFN bike night looked and crapp where my seat gone. So turned back round follow way a came home and luckily was near the curb phewww wee. Ride safe.
Great Vlog, sorry to see the pillion come off, hope it wasn’t too much of a pain when taking the bike back. Double buff or even the fleece buff work really well on exceptional cold days are always a winner.
In Belgium, filtering is legal, even splitting is accepted. This mornig 5 degrees, wind and pooring rain. But i gained 1 hour on my trip to Antwerp and 40 minutes on the ride home. Icebreaker merino undeclothes, shirt, Dale merino sweater and Stadler laminated suit. Daytona boots, Held goregrip globes. XR with all the nannies on. Tomorrow 260 kms planned, probably in light snow.
Ooooo, them bikes looked frosty ❄️ felt sorry for Mike. No heat 😬 not good. But looking a good trip aprt from being seat less 🫣😬, take care, stay safe 👍 ❄️🏍👌
Even if not my bike.. my OCD tendencies would cause me mild issues if losing a pillion seat. You & Mike seem to get on so well. Thanks for sharing. Ride Safe 👍🏍

Check your audio settings on the GoPro, it's probably set to wind reduction, switch to stereo and it should stop the crackling. I don't use a GoPro adapter anymore, I have more control with an audio recorder, an extra wire and device to set up, but used to that now. Safe travels!
The reason that drivers didn't move over on the German autobhan, is that you aren't supposed to filter unless the traffic is stopped! I think it's against the law. As for the Austfart thing, I always giggle to myself when I see the sign, (I'm a big kid at hart) lol. Anyway, you don't really need a pillion seat🤔. What are you like! 😂.
