- the viewport, to the ease of creating and manipulating materials, to spawning cloned renders directly from LOP nodes, this release vastly reduces the need to jump between contexts as they work on different tasks. We will explore these topics, connections between Solaris and Copernicus, and more.
Rob Pieké is a Senior Software developer, working on Solaris for the last three years. Prior to SideFX, he spent 15 years in the R&D teams of VFX studios developing in-house technologies and improving production workflows, with a soft focus on lighting and rendering. Rob has been passionate about computer graphics from a young age, and continually strives to ensure that technology is always a helper and never a hindrance to creativity.

i think solaris is gonna need an official mascot / test geo :D
Cant wait for this release!! Loving Solaris and USD
I used to reject this software but man it has grown on me it’s like I’m addicted to it! Love all the work you’re doing on TH-cam too
Same, tinkering on Houdini for client projects is always the fun part
All these improvements to Karma are great, really. But what I really lack is some more or less honest caustic solver. Like, even in the old Mantra it was possible to make a photon map
does this effect the snapshot gallery save file size ? as it saves the state of lops
Make a project with MPM solver and Car Rig, Dirt rally racing 😅.
I'm amazed the break of realtime proceduralism is treated like an afterthought with solaris, they need to prioritize the maximum responsiveness while using SOPs. Or I'll end up using Blender if everything is an USD cache.
SideFX is already working hard on it, but it will take some time to develop. It might also be that USD's Hydra is causing some performance overhead, which is extremely challenging
It's not about Solaris, it's the problem with usd itself. Solaris devs are definitely trying their best to have good support for procedurals but they don't wanna go too far by themselves and risk it. Hopefully usd catches up
@@Ep19MA Hopefully the realtime renderer that's coming is competent and covers most of our needs, then solaris would make more sense providing a more scalable and optimized scene building context after previewing it, this also means the interop must be seamless.
Indeed, this is the fastest historical version of Karma XPU. However, from the demo, it seems that the speed noticeably decreases when using textures. I even feel that Cycles is much faster than Karma
It might be... but you have to use Blender to use Cycles.. so there is that.

@@kamazooliy Yea.. I might have been a little strong there :-)... my apologies.
Maya Bifrost + Arnold better than Houdini + KarmaXPU
hahahahhaahhahah, not even in any parallel universe, that's true.
enjoy yours and let me enjoy mine
hahhaah good luck with that
@@xanzuls Yes, that's right Maya Bifrost is better in this universe.
