This has become the single best series I have watched this year. I remember Mat deliberating over this route and lack of information. Multiple people including myself said The People will help not really knowing exactly what that meant. Now we know! The people of Ohio sure delivered along with every state he’s been through. Sometimes I get a tear in my eye watching the generosity.
You're not alone with those feelings! Mat's videos have been a balm on my soul, and a wonderful relief from all of the bad news. I will miss this site in my life greatly!
Bob from Montana here, Mat. While all of your videos are great, this one seemed well above average. And getting to meet with so many of your fans made it all that much better.
The Ohio to Erie Trail is a true gem. I am in Dayton , Ohio and glad you got to experience Ohio. To bad you missed a Reds game, Great American Ballpark is awesome!
So Matt - do you think you could turn around when you get to New York and cycle back to the west again, I’m not ready for this series to finish 🤣. Cycling across America has been added to my list of things to do when I retire. Love the channel and this is up there with the Divide series.
We love this trail. As you head south it's the Heart of Ohio as you know. 10 miles outside of Columbus we said hello to 4 Scotsmen heading north from Cincinnati riding in their kilts. You never know who you'll run into biking. We rode the Mickelson trail in SD some weeks ago. Safe travels and look forward to your New Zealand trip. Take care
I've lived my whole life in Ohio. I'm glad you got to experience it and even happier it went well. I just got into quad copters, which just got me back on my back after decades, and these videos showed me trails I really didn't know existed here. This motivates me to explore my own backyard, so thank you for that in addition to your wonderful content.
Glad you’re loving the trails and all the company (plus a lot of beer) you’re getting. Weather seems kind too which makes it nicer. Can’t wait for the next instalment. Stay safe and be lucky Mat.
This was the best one yet. Michelle, my wife loves it as much. She keeps saying, ‘it’s so lovely, aren’t people so nice.’ I agree. Your videos restore our faith in humanity. You made the people and scenery in Ohio very beautiful. Keep going with the great content , Mat and Ross. Still loving it. 👍🏻🚴😀
Cheers Mat. It is amazing how you traverse the U.S. so well and thoroughly, much more than I have attempted. I hope to muster up the courage and get out there like you one day soon! Please stay safe and when the ride is over, I feel like your community would like a recap and maybe a tips and tricks talk... maybe share your route with us lazy planners...
Hello Matt, this part of the video the miles have flown very well and since you met many people on the way you possibly could not feel the long days of riding. As you approached the Eastern part of the country you have become even more popular with all the fans who watch your videos. I must say it has become one of the most interesting ones and the backcountry USA what a gorgeous scenery and great people all around. Cheers from Oregon. (I have been thinking the next time I get to drive across the country I will set my GPS to take me the country roads of this great and beautiful country, your video definitely exposes many interesting places and towns along the way.) Bravo.
So fun to watch… The Ohio Pub Crawl and all the great people supporting you! That VooDoo Ranger beer will make you forget which bag your Sour Patch kids are in. 😂 or which bike is yours!
The roads around Cincinnati are no joke! I'm only 20 minutes from where you were, just south of the river. I know you can't take all the offers sent your way... You were more than welcome to stay with and the family...
Mat says 16:24 "I just love havin' a chat". Really? We'd never have guessed😂 Fantastic episode - again. Thank you Mat and Ross - enjoying every minute of the shared journey 👍🏻
I grew up in Dayton, Ohio and I can't tell you how much joy I get from seeing you enjoy riding the trails I grew up riding endlessly. They're fantastic trails and I'm so happy you had a good time riding. I'll ride with you next time!
I’ve selfishly watched all these and never commented as I get sucked in and forget. Time to change that! Another excellent chapter of your journey. I am taking so much inspiration from your videos and Im looking forward to my own adventure the opposite way (Washington DC to Astoria) next year - thanks Mat! 😊
My word Mat , we would never get that level of kindness in the uk. Makes me feel slightly ashamed. America is definitely on another level of kindness. I'm so happy for you . Your in good hand😊
I'm so glad I found your channel... Awesome stuff... I love how much you're able to capture!! Love the bridges. Wishing you many more miles on the peddles.
For dogs in the midwest and south, a small (lighter size) $12 pepper spray from Walmart works without hurting the dog. Spray it in front of them and they stop chasing. After myself and a chasing dog almost got hit by a driver, the pepper spray is safer for the dog and me. It's great to see all the Ohio cyclists greeting you, the state has a bunch of trails that head toward PGH and the GAP/C&O to DC. Enjoy the trails!
I'll be finding that spray. Three dogs in WV scratched my skin under the shorts and owner was just watching. Unleashed of course on the Greenbrier Trail
This is brilliant. So many awesome people come out to share the ride. It's like you're realizing the dream of America. I'm down for it! Well met. Waiting for the next one.
Great fun! Adventures by bike is the way to go, and so much goodness and generosity along the way. Perhaps when you arrive in New York, you can just make a U-turn and cross the country again via another route. Cheers!
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your videos! This one (like all the others) was amazing, a real treat to see the countryside at the pace of a bicycle and to meet all the nice people who joined up with you. I’m sure everyone appreciates as much as I do the time and effort it takes to do all that filming. A big “thank you” to Ross also.😊
@@bdlii Yes, Ross does great work with the terrific footage. And I understand we should be thankful to Caroline as well. 😊 But I’m selfish because I really don’t want these videos to end.
Wow, the Ohioans are showing up! And an electric unicyle?? What else are you gonna throw at us? The trail looks great. And you're gonna need another pannier to carry all the beers.
Mat, the beer connoisseur 🍻. Yet another string to add to your bow.... obviously, this one has been forced upon you 😂 Bet you wished you had packed a sharpie to make your mark with all the artists. Boys and their toys hay, you could have your own cycle gang - anything with wheels. I am sure you have inspired many people to follow their dreams and go out of their comfort zones. Another awesome great bit of filming, lots of beautiful views too. Well done Mat and Ross. 😊
Simply lovely! Beautiful scenery and trails, and great people. Glad you had such good weather. Your daily mileage is pretty amazing! Have so enjoyed following the journey. Happy trails!
Nice to see the people of my home state treated you so well. You may have just inspired me to make a trip back there and ride the trail out of Cincinnati up to Cleveland next year.
Another fantastic video Mat. Interesting seeing Ohio, I have never been there before. Do you have a favorite State? Just from riding through. I live in Oregon. Which I love.
Cincinnati looks VERY cool, the design is superb. Ohio looks like a great state, from the old to the new, great to see. Again the American people come across as a great bunch, positive, kind, up for a challenge, LOVE IT! Good to see you doing well Mat, you are cracking through those miles, is the "backside" fettled? All best!
Mat, what a wonderful trip through IN and OH. Great people up and down the trail. By the time you get home you'll be a stone heavier. With all the food you have been given, no need to cook out, too bad, I really like it when you show us your Pocket Rocket dinners. Cheers, and safe travels.
Great to see you getting chased by a dog !! I'm cycling in Thailand and there are hundreds of them - luckily quicker to give up than yours ... Really enjoying following along Mat - great to see all the hospitality and some nice trails ...
What a great adventure dude.. I came from your other channel when looking at the Ergon saddles.. subscribed look forward to following your trip and future vids 😊 Pete 🚴🏻👍
When I visit Cincinnati, I incorporate that bridge over to Kentucky in my morning run. That rubbery surface is strange to run on. Great drone shot of the river and sports stadiums! Small-towns in Ohio sure didn't disappoint. Another great video!
Great adventure. I am in Wyoming and ride Wyoming and Montana dirt road and commuter. Thru your adventures I really want to visit the Ohio and New York paths and trails. The explosion of the brewing in the States has been staggering in the last 20-25 years. All for the better. PS I don't like IPAs but love summer brews and dark beers.

I'm starting my own cross-country e-trike trip in January, from Key West to Cape Flattery. I've been watching your videos and was inspired to make it happen. Question: What is the best method of communicating near-live with strangers? Do you first talk with people on other platforms, and then exchange more personal info via texts? Part of the excitement of traveling is meeting new people. But we all have to keep safety in mind. Thanks in advance. Cheers 🍻
Great stuff! That Cincinnati football stadium shown around 5:20 was designed by the architecture firm where I used to work, many years ago. Brings back memories!
What a great episode [ or whatever you call an installment on a TH-cam channel] I did the first five days from DC to Pittsburgh last August... I will do those five days westbound next spring..... may be more.
I've crossed Ohio 3 times and never used the Erie trail you took. I must check it out. What a contrast to all those solo miles out west. How do you drink beer and ride so far? I'd be asleep on a trail side bench for sure.
Hi Mat when you say your tired I think your forgetting that you have done 85 miles on a heavy bike in traffic so yes I imagine most of the guys watching including me would be tired .Well done your beasting it 🚴♂️🥇👌🎥🇬🇧
Really enjoying the videos! I see from your Garmin location link that you have just arrived in Manhattan, excellent work!!! Oh, but that means your Transam videos will finish soon 😢 Will miss them!
Mat, your video's are addictive, everyday I check for your latest instalment in this journey. Thanks for letting me experience this vicariously through you. Can't wait until I start my own journey hopefully... tackling the tour divide. Cheers from Canada.
Now, I'm 28 minutes in and it's like you're the Pied Piper of Ohio, gathering cyclists along the way. Expecting a peloton by the end. I'm guessing you've got a tracker that people are following you on? I'm envious of those cycle trails - I may have to add an east-west crossing to my 'whenever-I-retire' to-do list, in addition to the GDMBR.
Matt, I've been following you across the US. I was sorry to hear you wouldn't be joining me on the BC Epic 1000. I did roughly 600k of it (Penticton to Kimberley) this summer. It was scorching with highs up to 40C (104F). The heat made us switch from camping to motels so we could get on the road by 6 am at the latest. The big day was climbing Gray Creek Pass (5,000 feet of climbing in10 miles). The bad news was that the descent on the other side was steep and very rocky. Basically, you picked your way down standing on the brakes. We went up the climb almost as fast as we went down it. The descent was brutal. I'm hoping to do the GDMBR next year. I will likely split it into two sections, half for 2025 and the other half for 2026. Then maybe the Great Northern Bikepacking Route (GNBR). It is over 2,300 km (1,400 miles) and 35,000 meters (115,000 feet) of climbing. It includes some of the BC Epic 1000. Best to you on your current journey
Hey Mat. What a massive pub crawl ya got going on out there. I'm sad that you're getting close.... but I guess you aren't 😊 I was wondering how the Sutra is making out. I'm thinking of getting one and I would greatly appreciate your input. I think I saw a video of you changing out the cassette to 40 from the 36(which i will too) What do you like/don't like about the bike? The stock tires have been making out on gravel.... ok? How is the load with the gear(and beers)? I'm falling in between sizes and having a hard time choosing to size up or down. I can't really find too much on the Sutra as far as videos and reviews other than generic info. I really love this run that you're doing and I think by know I've got all your dialog on ALL of your videos committed to memory. Thanks for all the fun🎉😊🎉
I'll probably do a proper review of the Sutra but overall I love it. I don't have much experience with bikes but it worked perfectly. Everyone held up well. I changed out the tyres to Tubeless Schwalbe Allmotion Marathons and they were great. The replacement cassette worked well and just needed a longer chain. The bike was rock solid. I'm happy I chose it.
This continues to be a wonderful trip and a real insight into the USA and its people. Folks are so generous on this trip. Stay safe mate.
For it was I who left the beers in Columbus. Sorry I missed you but sincerely enjoy the channel.
Thanks much David!

I called him the Tom Cruise of Bikepacking!
OH is underrated!

Best,
Hal
Definitely!!! 😁😁
Hi Hal. It was great riding with you. I hope you've managed a few more rides since.
😂😂
So happy you made it to Manhattan. Congrats on finishing. This was another great video. Cheers
Cheers 🍻
My favorite video so far! Right up there with your Old Faithful video! Thx!
You meet the nicest people on two wheels.
Very much enjoying this video series. Great work.
Another super enjoyable ride along with Mat! Thanks again!!
Glad you are finding riding buddies.
Thanks!
Great. Thanks for the support 👍👍👍
Great stuff! That Cincinnati football stadium shown around 5:20 was designed by the architecture firm where I used to work, many years ago. Brings back memories!
Ah, wow - in Columbus too! I worked on the hockey arena you rode past. These videos are so entertaining partly for that sort of surprise!
What a great episode [ or whatever you call an installment on a TH-cam channel]
I did the first five days from DC to Pittsburgh last August... I will do those five days westbound next spring..... may be more.
Mat, consider riding the Western Wildlands Route in the future as it includes parts of the Arizona Trail.
Well done mat. Different from the transam route. Nice.
I just looked and missed you coming through NJ! Amazing videos!
Another great video I can't believe how nice people in the USA are fantastic
I hope you get out on the Divide. It's truly amazing.
This was such a good watch, i bet you don't want it to end, well done and keep going. 👍🍺
The link to his tracker is above. Click on "more" to expand his description of this episode.
I’m surprised you wasn’t drunk on the whole trip with all the free beer’s. Lol
Hi. Wow. You have a lot lined up. I hope to do the BC epic at some point and would love to hear your opinions on these trails. Cheers.
Hey Mat.
What a massive pub crawl ya got going on out there. I'm sad that you're getting close.... but I guess you aren't 😊
I was wondering how the Sutra is making out. I'm thinking of getting one and I would greatly appreciate your input.
I think I saw a video of you changing out the cassette to 40 from the 36(which i will too)
What do you like/don't like about the bike?
@@matryderadventures thank you sir.
