Hi Chef. This video popped up on my channel, and I am so excited to share it with my husband. He is an executive chef, and he also started a spice/seasoning business during the pandemic. But here in 2023 we want to relocate from Florida to Dallas, Texas, and surprisingly with his experience trying to get my husband's resume noticed has been a challenge, But you gave some really good advice. We expected that the fact that his products are sold in some stores, etc, would be good for his resume, but maybe it's seen as a conflict. 🤔 I am now following your channel and look forward to watching more videos 😊

Thanks for the last part of the video. I am a bit hesitant about jumping out from a bad work environment. I got into this company for growth purposes although I don’t think i can personally can continue, I’m ready to move on but i a a bit afraid how it would look in my CV that i made it half a year only. Anyways, thanks for the good advice Chef.

Half year is totally fine, just make sure you have an explanation. Also don’t waste anymore time at a place that you are not happy. It’s important to know you have plenty of time!

Hello Chef, Ive been working at a retirement home for about 9 years , starting from dishwasher to cook. Im having trouble to get information across as Ive been told that retirement homes and restaurants kitchens are very different, not sure if true. We have positions like 3, 4, 2, 30, and 1 in that order, yet we all are prep cooks as well work the line. For example the postion I hold is the 1, which I open the kitchen and begin to prepare breakfast (prepped by another cook) to be delivered to residents room as well as work the line for those who choose to eat at the dining room. During that time I begin prepping lunch items for the next day, as well as making the soup for the day. We create two entrees, one being the chef's special and the other left to our creativity, both accompanied with some sort of starch and vegetables. The cuisine changes everyday along with the seasons.
So in that sense its hard to get across in a resume for me. Not sure to put prep cook, line cook, entremetier, pastry chef, etc. Since all positioins dabble in a bit of everything, like the number 2 working with meats and pastries. Also how to explain that growth and skills learned in our positions.
I hope all this made sense and thank you for your time!

Hey, thanks for all the advice here. I'd appreciate it if I could get your input on this.
I recently made a career switch from retail to pursue a Chef Job. I don't have any experience in the kitchen. Recently finished a short cookery course here in Dubai. Any advice on how to tackle my lack of experience in the CV and what to look for in a job as someone starting out.
    Thanks.

Write about your inexperience, wear it like a sleeve. Speak about how excited you are to learn, how much energy you have to work. It also helps to mention long term employment, as this is a rarity in our industry.

Hey chef, thank you very much for this information.
It made clear for me many things. I have a question and you might help me.
I want to work in a different country and I don't have a lot of experience because I had to take care of my family.
I worked once or twice a week at the same place for 2 years after I graduated.
So how can I write about my experience that will sound good and not sound like I'm a lazy or trying to use my life situation to make them feel sorry about me and give me the job?
I have no problem to have an recommendation by my chef and by the manger of the culinary school because I'm a hard worker.
    Thank you very much
    Ortal.
