NASCAR Sponsor Battles: Home Improvement Showdown

- NASCAR is a fiercely competitive sport, with 40 different teams racing inches away from each other for hours. The competition doesn’t stop with the drivers and teams though, there are competing sponsors in every single race. Coke vs Pepsi, Budweiser vs Miller, UPS vs Fed ex. All happening week in and week out, and I wanted to see who was on top in the sponsorship battles.
Today we look at the Battle of the Home Improvement stores, Lowes vs Home Depot, vs Menards. Each having won Championships, some more recently than others, and each having very different histories within the Cup series. Mr Inferno brought up a great point, Robby Gordon won with Lowe’s in 2001 at New Hampshire! Big miss on my part, but that’s why y’all rock!
I remember that race and was getting ready to mention it because I recorded to watch after school
Jimmie Johnson also has the most championship wins with same sponsor Lowes, both STP (for Petty) and GM Goodwranch (for Earnhardt) didn't join until after their third (for Earnhardt) and fourth (for Petty) Championship reins.

Interesting thing about Menards, they’re the only of these three to win the championship in all three series winning 3 truck titles with Matt Crafton, the 2020 Xfinity title with Cindric, and the 2023 Cup title with Blaney

Also Matt Kenseth won at Darlington in the Husky tools/Home Depot car in 2013. Husky tools is owned by Home Depot. So it’s a win.
From my research Husky is a Home Depot exclusive brand, but is manufactured and owned by a conglomerate of tool companies, that’s why I didn’t include them, but it could go either way
When researching the #2 Pearson car, trying to see if Dale Sr drove for Lowes, he kind of did... just not the home improvement store. Dale Sr in the Busch series drove for Lowes Foods in the mid 90s with a white and green paint scheme.

Another store that had a brief NASCAR run was ACE Hardware. Last I remember they sponsored Lake Speed and Melling Racing's #9 in the Late 90's. Besides that there's really nothing

Kenseth did win three times with Husky Tools as the sponsor, which was part of The Home Depot deal. But unlike Lowe's when they promoted Kobalt Tools, The Home Depot wasn't featured on the hood
Yeah I actually researched the Husky tools deal, and yes it’s a Home Depot exclusive brand, they aren’t owned by Home Depot and Husky was listed as the primary not Home Depot. For Kobalt races lowes was still listed first then Kobalt. It was weird so I had to set a baseline for the data haha
How come no mentioning of True Value? True Value was the longtime title sponsor of the IROC Series, which many NASCAR drivers raced in.
I focused on NASCAR Cup series sponsors, but that is a great mention!
