I remember Memorial Day 2010 when I was watching the trains with my Dad at North Station and we struck up a conversation with one of the locomotive operators. She was super nice and even let us ride in the cab of F40PH #1011 with her for her run to Newburyport and back. Definitely a day I won't forget. RIP to the old screamers.
After 20 years of railroad work I'm into trucking.....I was broke down and my company put me up in a motel....I was there for 4 days, red carpet inn and a quick fill ....ns runs along quick fill .....got to see the F40S coming back rebuilt on freight trains
@@BarnesyBoy Sorry for the late response but yes. Two have finished renovation (1125, 1137) and are being tested. Three more are next in line down there.
Increíble que máquinas tan valiosas incluso valorando sólo el metal, las boten a la basura , en Rusia estarían todas en restauración y mantenimiento, para volver a las vías, gracias.
Great video and discovery do you think these will run again and will they be used again and what about all those passenger cars behind all those engines will they be used again
only the F40s have gone. 1013 and 1008 remain. The coaches are also just rotting there to eventually be scrapped. 1132, 1118, 3247 are being rebuilt with sisters 1137, 1138, 1125.
Eventually, like most machines, it becomes less feasible economically to repair and refurbish. They're probably pushing 40 years old. Being used to keep others going.
There was a certain year of Volkswagen bug, 1969 I think, that came with a heavy duty battery. So if you can borrow one of those, it will surely jump start this train.
Engine # 3247 is an X - C & O engine then it became a Conrail engine then Conrail sold it to Ohio Central then to the MBTA GP -40 are former CN RR rebuild to passenger engines these two are going to be rebuild for work trains and as recused engines The State of Mass are going to be sending them out to be rebuild like # 1136 & # 1137
My question to you is that did they give you permission to walk on the tracks and get in these locos? Anyways the original F40’s numbered 1000-1017 are retired. G + u bought most of them except 2 of them. The GP40’s 1118 and 1132 are waiting to be rebuilt completely. And the work locomotive 3247 is just sitting there in storage. Not sure what they are going to do with that, but that’s the info that I know that I can provide to you.
gonna remind people- this is a cool spot but you are standing on a live line and it’s trespassing, I sure don’t care, but be safe and if you’re unwilling to risk getting a trespass then don’t go in
Hardly abandoned and you have no business getting in them. Way overdone on the "cool stuff cool stuff" and "bad boys". Exactly why the railroad hate rail fans and run them off the property.
exactly why a lot of rr’s have zero tolerance trespassing policies. even if this clown doesn’t vandalize the equipment, he’s still giving away the location for others to vandalize. what a tool

Always loved this color scheme. Enjoyed riding this train back in the late 90s daily into South Station.

The GP40MC locomotives you saw are actually to be reconditioned and put back into service after mechanical renovations are made.

Most of the F40s listed for auction by Ozark Mountain Railcar.

A lot of those f40 ph units are being converted into f40ph 3C units.
no, they're not. they're all gonna be scrapped.
@@syeet1234 correct. The older screamers are being scrapped. Those ones are dinosaurs that were taken out in the early 2010s

Quite the possibility
@@DavesRange Hopefully & they'll have to be repaired and repainted if they do
I already know that these units are going to be scrapped or tagged. It's kind of tragic for that commuter railway. :[

You know, where i live in south east Pa there are 3 abandoned MARC locomotives, GP40Ws i think they were.
Cool
@david94499 indeed, one of them, 26 I think, you could go inside.
They're not locomotives, just cowardly truck engines hiding inside tin cans. Real locomotives have boilers.

It's not a waste. They served their useful lives and are very old. They are being sold for scrap, but that process takes a lot of time.
