CARNAGE - Can The Barra MX5 Miata Runs 7s?

- Years ago, we bought an MX5 and put a twin turbo LS1 it, then we pulled that out and fitted a Barra and then it ran 9s, then 8s and now we're going for 7s. It's got the power, but can we put it down?
Street Machine Carnage is all about having fun with cars. Sometimes it's serious performance, sometimes it's crazy fun, but it always interesting and done on a budget.

Well.. we can't blame ya for not trying. Thx again for all the efforts that yourself and everyone else put into getting here. ❤❤
What a story. I love that the racing community comes together to help chase a number, EVERYONE wants to see everyone do their best, I love that. Lance and his team at HPR truly have been a revelation for the sport too. I know ya burnin for the 7 Scotty..we all are.
Bloody well good on ya, Scotty.
7s or no 7s, it’s still Awesome to see all the iterations of the MX5 (the ls was still better 😂) and it’s awesome to see you and the team get the just rewards for the efforts.
Scotty for SM employee of the Year
We love Carnage content Scotty, give us more. Great effort with the Barra Scotty. Still was a beast even with the LS 1.
Hahaha ....
Love how Telly instantly knows he's been set up!!!
Scotty had a dream!!
And it was off its head!!!!
4:40 Cleanup on isle 2, 3, 5 and 10...!!!
How was the view from the captain's chair during that wheel stand? I would have shit a house brick at that moment..!
Mate you have done everyone proud! Finding 7's in this car has given you all almost as much grief as getting "dads Ute" back on the road.
Win, lose or draw, you punched on as hard as you could, and showed the younger folk what true pride, a ton of sweat, late night and a fair set of testicles can get you in this world, and that is something very special.
Well done everyone!!
When you put the sunglasses on AND fresh cable ties, l thought that combination would get you into the 7s for sure.😂 sooooo close Scotty.
top work from all involved... the recap at the start was awesome, when it first mad 1000hp scotty's react was one of the best! shame you didnt get that 7, but you cant deny the journey was fun and i think this car certainly lifted your driving abilities Scotty, not only the car evolved, but you did too. 7 or no 7, thats one fast little beast. cant wait to see whats next.
What an awesome episode Scotty. Awesome support from Zane and the guys at Heathcote Park. Hope you can get back for another crack at that 7 second pass.
That's a kick in the kids, but there's no shame in the day's work. 8.2 all day long...that's a wicked bracket car. Looking fwd to the next project!
I reckon you probably got a PB for depature angle as well!
Can't be disappointed with back to back to back 8.2s....... can you?
Yes, yes you can
You gotta be proud of 8.2 Scotty, you built that engine in your shed! Well done, another chapter closed, and onto the next chapter!
What a great video Scotty those wheelies had me going, with a few dramas on the way she was launching hard, no doubt the 7 is on the way, well done chin up with 5 pbs you gotta be proud of that, thanks for everyone who had involvement to getting this stage 👍
Top work Scotty, you and your guys have come up with an astonishing result. Whatever the final outcome, hold your head high, you own (by far) the fastest MX5 in Australia. The MX5 Club has been watching your work with interest, well done!
Actually there is one quicker. It's has a 13b and it been 180mph+
Can you ask for a better way to start your Friday morning Good work Scotty👍
Well done Scotty and crew.
Awesome progression, love the project (do miss the original livery tho, that was pretty neat!)
Hail to the (wheelie) king, baby! ;)
You've done us Aussies proud Scotty and the team. Well done on making such a consistent car, 5 separate 8.2's is no joke. Didn't get that 7, but what a beast of a car you've made! Thank you for the continued content.
Thanks mate
Some people may have left this little MX5 story a while ago I haven't I'm still here waiting for that dam 7 I feel ya Scotty the frustration, please finish this story bring that 7
that wheelie was insane
My god was I urging you on to crack that 7!!! What a great bunch of people helping each other out just to crack that magical 7 for a budget motor. I reckon it's got it in her. Seems like a fine line between that 7 and popping a wheelie. Go on Scotty. Crack that nut!!!!
absolutely solid effort by everyone involved.
A 7 would have been awesome but to have a car that'll reliably run 8.2 all day is something that people like me dream about and strive towards..
Inspirational stuff, really is
I shed a tear or two Scotty... 7's or not, that car has a lot of character. I'll miss it when it's gone. Great work mate, and big ups to Lance, Zhane and Mick too. All the best, brothers!
Scotty and his MX5 have had so many moments of troof over the years👍
You are the Sisyphus of chasing times Scotty, this was harder to watch than you chasing 10's in turbo taxi, much respect
You gave it a go and even managed multiple PB's so got to be proud of that, and sounds like potential is there for another go in future. But massive effort from all involved, and I'm sure Scotty's family will be happy to see him again.
Wheel standing MX5 T-Shirt...i'd buy 2!!!
Well done Scotty!
It's an effort we'll never forget!
I salute you!
Carnage FTW!
Wow, she is mighty consistent ⚡
Unbelievably consistent, frustratingly so
Just stick 8.2 on the window 7s for sure ,love the channel and keep it up mate cheers 👌👌🛞🔥🛞🔥
Nicely done, Scott and the crew who help build the MX5
Well done Scotty!! So good, All you guys, Zane, HPR, Just a killer effort.
Love ya videos each Friday Scotty..keep up the great work to you and your team
Great work from all involved
Bad luck Scotty good to go down memory lane at the start and to get so close 5 times in a row 8.2's Awesome👍🍻
What an effort! Awesome to watch
With wheelie bars I think you would have gotten there, but you can always say if only this, or if only that in drag racing. It wasn't a one hit wonder, it is a solid 8.2x car at 170+. I think it is safe to say we are all proud of your efforts. Of course we are all disappointed along with you that it didn't crack the 7's, but I honestly didn't think you were going to get there without wheelie bars, even though I hoped you would. Congrats on what you did, and thanks for sharing your journey.
At least a few bent wheelie bars later
proud of what you have achieved along this journey Scotty and you should be too. what an absolute weapon. i think the car still has just a little more in it, would you consider just one last run? maybe with the wheely bars i suggested? (sorry) anyway, well done, no way i thought it would ever be this quick. AAAA+++++!
Fark yeah was still a great outing Scotty fricken cheers man!
Well done Scotty you had a good go at it.
Time to move on to the wagon now..
Huge effort Scotty, you guys really made a diamond out of a turd there. It's a shame you didn't get the 7 but it's an amazing car. And when it's not standing up it looks so nice on the track!
I feel for ya Scott, but still an awesome job. Oh n a big shout out to Zane, he's bloody awesome.
Good thanx to all who helped Bravo
You can't win 'em all scotty. Great effort and great series. Sorry to see the little mazda parted out but on to bigger and better things
What a legendary build. Awesome series!! Well done scotttty and the crew !
Not disappointed at all Scotty and 175 Mph says a lot along with the ticket times :-)
Just quietly 175 Mph is a beesdick over 280 Kilometres an hour in a TINY, light, Open top go-kart.........
If you scrapped it today its still a Win! (PUHLEEZE come back and try for 7's though eh?)
Well done Scotty - Its be great to see your journey with this car. Keep up the good workl
Love the story so far recap too 👍
COOL video scotty you did your best noboddy can challange that. Looking forward to the other projects.
Top effort guys 👍 wheely bars 7's
a lot of team work and went well
Congrats on the series of PBs. That's such an awesome car, with an awesome story, looking forward to the next attempt at 7s, (maybe with some ballast in the front?)
Thanks mate
If you can change that rear bar angle and stiffen up the front shock rebound you would stand a very good chance of getting your 7, hard to get a good 60' when it likes to pick up the front. Good luck, sweet build
Awesome, might not be 7's but its hell fast. 8.2 is quick. loved the episode brother
Dam great effort Scotty !!! 😜👍🇦🇺
Still a beast scotty well done on the pbs
Great video ya gave it a great shot just need the wheelie bars
Thanks for taking us through the journey of the car from purchase to today. That was great to see the evolution. You have that car dialled on the launch after looking back at the older footage and see it twisting sideways. What did you do to make it arrow straight? 175 mph = 281.6352 kmh. Scary! 😳
An anti roll bar from Enemies Racing Australia has it launching dead straight
Those rolling burnouts when it was white where insane, little beast of a mx5
A quarter of a second doesn't sound like much, but it shows why there are only 3 MX-5s that have run a 7 in the world. It really wasn't for the lack of trying, everyone was hoping for a time starting with a 7. I would like to see the little car that could immortalized, mounted up on a pole with the eyes back on the screen at the drag strip, once all the goodies have been removed. It just seems a fitting end to a mighty career. Thank you to all those hard working souls who a crack at stardom possible.
reminds me of the Hoff making that 30kg nose weight for the KE10 trying to run 7s .. well done everyone involved
Well done! The next thing the Mazda needs is a wheely bar. But we know you know that. Wicked effort.
You gave it your best !!
The MX-5 isn't dead Scotty but by hell has it been a good run!
You still have to be impressed with those times, always a new PB, better than going backwards
Well done, you guys have sure put together one hell of a drag car. There's quicker times in it but how far do you go?? Id certainly be happy with it!! Can't wait to see what you do with the torana
Awesome video
Really enjoyed the content. The mazda is exceptional.
Wow man, what a beast. How do you keep the front down??? Time for some of those rear brackets with wheels... whatever they are called 😅😅😅
Great stuff, 5 PBS, big MPH, legendary helpers……well done…..
It's hard to be disappointed, isn't it?
Fantastic work boys
Bit of a bummer you couldn’t get into the 7s ,I said you needed wheely bars before you came back
What a journey this has been and you looked so young at the beginning of this and now all the grey hair 😂😂
Top effort though from all the guys involved absolutely fantastic 👍👍
At least you were consistent mate! Well Done!
Awesome effort Scotty, great story, well done! 🤘😎🤘
Unlucky to the Carnage crew, very Unlucky cars just got a light unique body, getting that power to the ground is well difficult, but mate you drove it, that's for sure.
Great stuff Scotty. gotta be happy with that even though 7's eluded you.
Scotty , think with out more top end sevens won’t happen ? Or wheelie bars lol!
Think just dial in 8:50’s and go win trophies! Such an achievement in how this car runs. It’s a race winner in a bracket class!
175mph is more than enough to run 7s, but it really does need wheelie bars because to get the launch right we need more power at the start and any time we give it that power it stands up.
@@STREETMACHINETV yep 175 is plenty and 1.3 is enough 60, something ain’t right between those two tho
@chuxshed587 we can't hit the start as hard as we'd like. If we could get a low 1.3 or high 1.2 we'd be fine, but any time we give it the berrys it stands up
That thing is insane! Looking forward to the next project.
I really hope you guys can soon put together a car that can get consistent 7's - deep 7's, maybe even tickle the next bracket :S
Kinda like how cleet did with moving on from leeroy to mullet
I have to say, you defs deserve more subs Scotty, you put in a really strong effort and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching since I think Taxi episode 2.
Wait until you see the new car
Love this channel always good content an always waiting for the next video to drop on a Friday
Just wondering what camera u use on top of the car?
360 camera
Well done Scotty, it's not easy by any means to go 7s. 8.20s is still cooking! 170+ feels amazing yeh! 😆
It's just insane how quick this car is and yeah we're hitting that point where suspension tuning is so critical and I really don't know enough to make the right changes
Scotty, you can’t win em all but I think it’s some serious money to get that 7 mate for a budget build you really can’t complain
This car is an icon and it’s as much more carnage than any other car will be so please don’t end it. I’m sure there is a bit more weight that can come off and your at that stage where it’s full on race car so it doesn’t need any trims or even some of the sheet work that doesn’t do anything on a race car. Please put it away for now and bring it back again in the future, you took the Trolvo away from us so don’t take this one also.
woohoo well done team
SO close mate. Farkin spewin. If you're going to sell it , that might give a buyer some motivation to own it. It was good of Azn to fly over to assist lol. cheers.
Well done, that team! 1,000 Horsepower+ ! Just two questions, what final drive and transmission are you running? And with what mods? Seems to be a bullet proof combination all round, except for the thermo fan eating one, I'm mightily impressed, Mick Ohman..
It's a built Powerglide and 31-spline nine-inch
It could definitely go 7s! the short wheelbase/radial pro combo on a well prepped track is challenging, does it have double adjustable shocks up front?
Still got the front shocks that we bought the car with...
So close nooo, Rossi would be proud of those wheelies tho, but still well done Scotty and lads 🤙
Well done Scotty, maybe for fathers day, you can get that 7's, put drag ails on the back please, at least she will stay on the ground mate, keep up the great work mate. 🚓🚓🚗🚗🙌🙌👌👌👍👍😎😎
Is the alloy block C.O.M.E engine available, was it a success. The alloy block that you introduced us to at the beginning of this video, who built it, what capacity is it at present and how big do you think it will go out to.
Alloy block?
Good show fam!
Well done, Scotty. Sorry you couldn't get the 7. But an epic effort from all involved.
It was pretty epic, the car has the power to do it but it really needs wheelie bars
Thanks street machine, awesome 👌
Scotty, Scotty, look at moi Scotty...now I've got one thing to say to you Scotty - Wheelie Bars!
Wheelie bars could always help, especially when it wants to turtle. As an American, I always get a kick out of seeing drag cars do the Aussie lean.
You should get a t shirt done with the words "send it, then mend it" and the across the shoulders F£&k Yeah!. Be a cool way to celebrate the mazda. You did your best mate and nearly there. Maybe in another dimension you've done the 7 sec pass.
The multiverse theory, I like it
Awesome stuff
A set of cams would do amazing things for this. Turn the boost down 10psi, make the same power for a longer rev range.
We actually tried some cams on the dyno Monday night but they didn't help
You need bubba to sit over the front axle and move your seat back for 50/50 weight distribution
Now I like where your heads at :) let’s do that :))
Well done!
What turbo are you running now?
Pulsar 8582G Curved Point
