Social Security admin needs to step it up. Most of the WEP payments shouldn't be that hard since a comp program should be able to easily identify and remove the penalty. These people would then fall under standard benefits.
Their admin costs have been slashed year after year, 1000+ people retire each day, and there's still a hiring freeze. But the 3% are demanding priority. A sad day for common sense
Does not matter for they do not have to delay the check that you already get they can send that extra money on another date when they get it figured out period
When I learned the temp head of SSA is 82 years old, my heart sank. She doesn't have a clue how to implement this. Trump needs to fire her now because a one year delay is not acceptable. Lord knows, he fires everybody else. Put his business efficiency expert he has chosen into office immediately. Maybe he can light a fire under them. I thought Ways and Means asked her how much money and manpower she'd need to implement it. So shouldn't be an excuse.
Who can overturn the hiring freeze. Give them the manpower they need to get the job done quickly. We have all waited long enough for what is due to us.
To all affected by WEP/GPO please write to the SSA website to voice your displeasure with the update stating that it will take 1 year or more to update and send out the monthly SS checks and up to 2 years to send out the retroactive payment. This is simply the SSA Commissioner playing politics for more funding and manpower at the expense of public employee retirees. I also ask that you contact your House Representative and Senators to hold the SSA Commissioner's feet to the fire in sending out our adjusted monthly SS checks and retroactive check in a timely manner.
Shouldn't the SSA be required to add interest to the paymemts because of the protracted delays for those that qualify for Social Security Fairness Act payments?
That's a really valid point! Unfortunately, the SSA isn’t required to add interest to delayed payments, even when those delays are significant. It can definitely feel unfair, especially when people are relying on that money. Hopefully, more pressure on the system could bring changes like that in the future, but for now, it’s not something they’re offering. We will try and update you here on the channel if anything changes.
I hope social security will give what is due to retirees. I worked for 30 years, my retirement was more than $1500 in LA. But when I moved to North Carolina, they reduced it by more than $300.
I've been affected by by wep for the past 14 years. Why can't they at a minimum pay out the amount ( which should be on file ) that was originally reduced then after recalculation make necessary corrections ?
My grandmother should be eligible now due to the repeal of GPO. She gets a government pension, my grandfather gets SSA. She qualifies for spousal benefits now because his money is more than what she paid in before she went under her pension plan. She filed when he retired but her benefit zeroed out due to GPO.

This iss for the new legislation that was passed. It does not affect current recipients. They need to play catch up with the folks who couldn't collect due to civil service retirement.
It absolutely affects current non-covered income earners, because HR82 didn't fix the underlying problem, and those "folks" still didn't contribute enough to deserve the 90% adjustment

Hi, Will this delay affect our regular basic monthly payments at all? In other words, will our regular (previous amount) monthly payments still be issued on time or are ALL SS checks being delayed?? GULP.....
Great question, and I get why this could feel stressful. From what we know, the delays mostly affect adjustments and retroactive payments related to the Fairness Act, not regular monthly Social Security payments. Your usual monthly checks should still arrive on time, so no need for a "gulp" just yet. If anything changes, we will try and update you here on the channel.
I believe 80000 newly hired IRS agents should be permanently diverted to the task of working SSA. Computer programs will have to be updated, people will have to be trained .......this is gonna take a while.
If you had a next of kin that would have been eligible to 9the new social security increase and retro pay and they are deceased can their next of kin get their retro payment?
So now I am not going to get my regular check which I should had already gotten days ago. A year for the SSA to catch up? No check for a year? Thx SSA, I will be homeless and dead not being able to support myself with food and a home, pricks...
