@TrueBlueAtenista "Hail Ateneo Hail" has been an Ateneo song for decades. When I was in grade school in the 80's, it was already being played along with "Blue Eagle The King" right before flag ceremony. If it was taken from Fordham's song, I would not blame the person who made this video or the band that played this (which is a recent version). Also, I believe Fordham is a sister university. Chances are, decades way back, there may have been an arrangement.

Yes, the 1950s cheerbook "On Wings of Blue" acknowledges that the song was adapted from the "Fordham Ram". Same with "A Song for Mary" which is taken from Calixa Lavalee's "O Canada". Chances are there was a Canadian Jesuit in the faculty.

The music was taken from the Fordham Ram Song. Fordham University is a Jesuit university. Back in my grade school days prior to the flag ceremony, this song and Blue Eagle the King were played. Thus you know if someone came from the Ateneo Grade School. They know this song and Blue Eagle the King. We only learn Song for Mary in our graduation year.

It would help to know that, before it became a separate province (that's how the jurisdiction is called), the Philippines was originally under US Jesuit province. That's why Ateneo has lot of American Jesuits rather than Spanish or Europeans. The China province transferred to the Philippines after they were evicted by the Communists. For a while, Xavier School was under the Chinese province separate from Ateneo. Only in the 1980s or 1990s were the provinces merged.

@TrueBlueAtenista , Before the Philippines became a separate Jesuit province, the Jesuits under the US province operated and ran both Ateneo, Fordham, among other schools. If you saw “The Mission,” music has always been part of the Jesuit ministry. Many English Catholic spiritual and liturgical songs used in Ateneo (and later the Catholic Church worldwide) were composed by the Jesuits in St. Louis Missouri. Please see earlier posts re very brief overview of Jesuits.

It might also help to know that most Jesuit schools (I'm not sure if all) are consecrted the BVM of the Immaculate Conception, thus the colors blue and white. Fordham, Gerogetown, Loyola Marymount, St. Louis are just some of the Jesuit schools in the US. Most Jesuits take their masters in these US schools (especially Fordham) or in Europe. The American priests came from these schools. So, blame the Jesuits for copying from themselves.

@TrueBlueAtenista yup, it has the same tune too, but in their song it's not once more the BLUE AND WHITE.

    Fly High!
    Blue Eagle fly
    And carry our cry
    Across the sky!
    Cast your shadow below,
    Swoop down on the foe,
Then sweep up the fields away!
    Fly high!
    Over the trees
    Make known through the breeze
    Our victory!
    Spread wide each wing
    For you are the King
    Blue Eagle, the King!
    * * *
    HAIL, ATENEO, HAIL
Words and music for this song were modified by Ateneans and Ateneo Jesuits alike from the “Fordham Ram” of Fordham University, New York. (The Ateneo Cheer Book)
Hail, Ateneo, Hail, on to the fray….
Once more our foes assail in strong array…..
Once more the Blue and white wave on high, and sing our battle song - We do, or die….
March, march on, march on to victory!, march on, march on, march on with loyalty!
To the Fight - to the fight to win our laurels bright oh, hail… (Repeat)
