Had the privilege to hear this arrangement/rendition live at the UP College of Music. The shift from English to Filipino is beautiful, and accompanied by the more triumphant tone when the language changes, to me it feels like a representation of UP breaking free from the shackles of its US colonial origins and finding its potential as a genuinely Filipino-centric institution for an independent Philippines.

Played during UAAP Season 84 Men's Basketball Eliminations, Final Four and Finals Best of 3 to Edge out Ateneo to win the title since 1986. 36 years since they won the last championship.
This is my favorite rendition of the UP Hymn, then again I might be biased to how my dad arranged it. Either way thanks for doing this. I think a good reason why any translation wasn't so satisfying was because of how the Filipino language works as a whole when it comes to translation. Because there's two types of translation for Filipino into english (in particular) the very literal word by word translation and the very artistic/changed translation, especially at the end of the Hymn, if you translate it word by word into English it becomes "Long Live the hope of the nation" as literal but then the more lyrically and context correct wise would be "Long Live the saviors of the nation"(as these are students who hope to serve the nation in their own way) and it also sucks lyrically to fit into the song. At the same time the original lyrics was "Loyal our sons ever be" but it was changed to "Mabuhay ang pagasa ng bayan" which have very different contextual meaning(and I think people can under why, but tldr; hope and loyalty are very different words in context) and the literal translation of last verse of the lyrics would be: "magiging matapat and mga anak niyo"(which is a mouthful for putting it into a song)or something like that. But this would just be my take as it is.

Regarding the translation, I admit that I tried for a more direct literal English translation to from the Filipino. Reminds me of the New Zealand anthem, where it is sung first in Maori then English, in this case the UP hymn is sung in English then Filipino.
Officially only the Filipino version is sung.
