There's no way I would remotely interested in the hobby without the research gathered from this channel. I was just setting myself up for failures.
Now, if something is failing, I know it was my lack of maintenance/husbandry and not due to my ignorance.
I still have a LOT more to learn, but I've reached a level I never thought capable in just the few years I've been active, and it's very comforting to know I'm not on my own.
How in the world did old school reefers get by without BRS? LOL You guys have helped a new reefer like me in so many ways! I am just recently moving up from my tiny 10 gallon with a strip light and buying some bad boy lights and this series is so helpful. Thanks BRS! Just love you guys!
Back in 2012-2013 LED was extremely new and extremely expensive compared to other fixtures like Metal Halide and T5. Remember that T5 and Metal Halide didn't need any adjustment besides height. Most T5's had feet for mounting on the tank or told you how high to mount it. Old school refers (myself included) used to act cautiously and cycling for two months was a must to everyone. I went against the grain and cycled in 24 hours. At any rate, we have a ton of options that we didn't have 10 years ago and a lotnkf technology. Funny enough, the old school way grew some absolutely amazing corals and those methods still produce some of the lowest cost, best options today.
T5’s, metal halides, and ocean harvested rock. Don’t need any guides with those foundation points. Granted, they’re not without their pitfalls. But they definitely make the hobby a lot easier and take away a lot of mystery issues
This is why I love T5, set forget, leds for nighttime viewing :)

I have not much to say, it's really good information and well distributed in the video, awesome job! Only thing I can think of is adding more data in what corals absorbed other then Chloropfyll A, C2 and Carotenoid data.

Would love to see a review of the Current Marine Orbit LED light. Popular and affordable option for reef keepers. Easy to hook up multiple modules to keep corals with higher demands. I just wonder how to compares, if it can, to other state of the art LED’s. Great work though, keep it up and I’ll keep pressing the like button!
I'm a new reefer and just set this system up. I'd love to see this! I really like the functions on this setup so far. My setup came with two power heads and a return pump.
6:40 - and why no one sees the direct sunlight in reefs like that? That light has much more than blue. I’ve noticed much better results giving my tank more white than just blue.
The big manufacturers should put up models of various programs depicting a spectrum graph of their available lights.
So far, all the responsibly has weighed on you guys with your investigates series.
I don't even believe LEDs would be nearly as popular without that information guys collected.
I personally took your advice a few years ago and went with kessil. I also purchased a seneye, but never used it. I never had to. The Kessel 360 is really that user friendly. I know, I should use the seneye for at least the ammonia monitoring. Alright, I'll set that as a project this weekend during maintenance.

Awesome video. Could you guys test and measure the jebao al 150. After the recent ati update it could be a very interesting light for less money. Such a video would be highly appreciated because a lot of guys are discussing this lamps set up here in Germany. Best regards.

So the Radion G5 is one that's preset and you just control intensity? That sounds ideal to me.

That was an older shot of Jason's old tank with a Giesmann T5/MH hybrid fixture above it. I'm pretty sure that was Blue Plus bulbs and a 20K MH bulb.

I am thinking of radions, is it really really blue? Doesnt look that blue on this video. I saw someone who did a review and it was crazy blue, as if he only had blues on! Also dosnt radions uv start at 400? I thought it had to be below 400 to be true uv, is that true? I also read that uv bulbs only last a year can they be replaced? I dont lknow if it makes more sense to get the blu and turn down blues if its to blue or to get pro and tune down white if its to much. Just wish pro had cyan. I feel I am cheating myself out of a color! If I prepay am I guaranteed a light when it comes in? They said yes on chat but someplace else said its unlikely that they would get enough and they go by order of who paid first! I am also considering zetlight ufo 8300. It has 11 colors. 3 blues and true uv, cyan, amber, 2 reds plus the regular colors. It also has a patented sort of like dense matrix with a quartz lens or something. I i wish yall carried that light! Would love to see it reviewed. It sounds to good to be true at 299.00 with a super nice mount! I dont like that it only has 4 channels though and their new version the z8, has 7 channels but took away amber,cyan 2 reds but kept all others. Suppose to have 3 blues too and 8 colors. I think red and green share a channel. Since you carry the qmaven I dont get why you dont carry is, its really the only reasonably priced type that has a mount and not on legs! I prefer the look of mounts!

Do I need to add any white into my Kessil A360X or can I run them at 0%?
The unique thing about Kessil's lights is that they have what they call "Kessil Logic." Basically, the core spectrum needed for coral growth is always there, so no matter what "color" setting you use, you're good to go. The only other thing that you need to fine tune would be the intensity.
I’m still using 3 “AI Vega Color” fixtures over my mixed reef.
LED’s onboard:
(6) Cree XP-E Royal Blue,
(4) Cree XP-E Blue,
(4) OSRAM OSLON Deep Blue
(4) Cree XM-L Cool White
(1) Cree XP-E Green
(1) OSRAM OSLON Deep Red
Question: If I want to try to replicate Ecotech’s Coral Lab AB+ spectrum..and since these lights are missing “UV” leds. Could someone recommend a good T5 bulbs to add as supplement in order to achieve the AB+ spectrum?
ATI purple perhaps? Or?
(I currently have all blues at 100% with white, red and green at 24% all dimmed to 60% intensity via coral acclimation setting)
Why not use kessil a360x and t5 combo? Feom what ive seen only kessil and GHL use true UV lights that the corals love.
Actually, from our testing on last Friday's episode, the purple bulbs really only add in red to the focused blue bulbs to create that "purple" look. I would avoid getting wrapped up in trying to perfectly match a certain spectrum, but rather ensure you are utilizing that 400 to 500 wide blue spectrum as much as you can and then simply make the tank look good to your eye with a little white.
You don't necessarily need a spectrometer to give this your best guess, but judging by the names of your LEDs I would believe that deep blue and blue have you covered in the 420 to 450 range and the blues and cool whites have you covered from 450-500. If you wanted to supplement more using T5s, you could consider a couple of Actinic bulbs that peak at 420 but still cover 400 to about 430. :)
My vote is for actinic t5’s for your specific need. Will the new reef brite add ons fit your light?
I have a tank of 75 gallons, how many hydra 52 hd do I need?
Two Hydra 52's should do the trick just fine for a standard 75 gallon. You shouldn't have any issues growing softies, LPS, or SPS with that setup :)

I run 100% blues in my Zoa frag tank. No whites at all. Is this a bad idea?
As long as you're providing your coals with light near 450-460 nm, you will be fine. That is the spectrum that they use most for photosynthesis

Looking at the best Sps guys this isn’t exactly correct, white leds grow corals .
I love all the high tech knowledge. You guys make great videos. Have you ever thought about doing a lower budget beginner tank series? Perhaps making this a little more accessible for the beginner and budget conscious future reefer who might not have the means to get the latest led lights, sumps, reactors, etc.
I think the 5 minute saltwater aquarium guide that they have here is a pretty good beginner guide.
