    London looks like an absolute nightmare today. I cycled there from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s and it was actually a lot safer without the bike lanes, probably because I was just one of a handful of cyclists you saw in the city on a weekly basis, and maybe drivers saw me as an eccentric oddity back then. I had no accidents or dangerous encounters during this time. Nowadays it seems like Tour de France has come to the city and that they are all cycling for death or glory - it looks immensely dangerous. Plus thin tyres and those grid covers!!!!

    • @zeecycling
      @zeecycling  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes cycle traffic and the standard of riding are a big challenge now. Often more likely to cause an accident than motor traffic.

    Needs to be regulation around cycle lanes so they have a consistent colour and width.
    red for cycle lanes
    Blue for bus lanes
    (For example)
    In MK cycles cross slightly in the junction for safety so they are exposed to traffic from multiple directions

    I see this most days when I am cycling, and as for e bikes. I cycle pretty fast and e bikes are quick on the flat, and up hill. What really p*sses me off are private e scooters on the road as if they are a legal motor vehicle !
    A friend of mind was hit while he was cycling by a local town rental e scooter which hurt him pretty badly, and damaged his cycle. The .oval authority could not tell who rented the bike or its logged journey!
    What is the point of accountability if the rental provider does not know who is using their e scooters !

    • @philtucker1224
      @philtucker1224 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Really? I was under the impression you have to register and activate the rental scooter via an app? (The rider would be duty bound to declare that when they exchanged details)..

    • @philtucker1224
      @philtucker1224 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe the rental company has to be fully insured for third party damages as part of their local authority contract agreement. Just because they were unable to declare the user at that time is irrelevant (I believe)..( I would advise your friend to follow this one up if your story is true..)

    If your a cyclist who runs reds shame on you. If you patiently wait and do your best to be a predictable cyclist to remain safe for you and those around you well done. I know its hard maintaining this while seeing others flaunt he rules. Its much like any other transport method, youll have people who are reckless and stupid and then youll have those that are cautious and courtious. I do not run red light, but I can kinda understand people who do it. When I cycle to work, I time myself and spend 7 minutes just standing at red lights, one way. In 9 days that is over an hour spent just waiting, and the only reason for the light is because of cars. I never seen dedicated cycle tracks with traffic lights on them. So as usual, better infrastructure would solve this issue.

      You talking about uninsured drivers or are you peddling the ridiculous lie that cyclists don't pay for roads and cars do? Roads are largely paid for by general taxation and your "road tax" and fuel duty don't come close to paying for the costs of the road system. Bikes do no damage to roads and most cyclists also have cars and drive so even if the argument that cyclists don't pay for roads wasn't complete BS, the fact most of them also drive would cover that. Thats ignoring the fact that all these cyclists could be driving and making our congested roads even worse.
