Back in 2009, my dad took me to a local game exhibition at the community college where the developers were showing off Deadly Creatures for the Wii. I remember being fascinated... but not because of the game. I didn't care about the game, I just wanted to ask them about how the Wii development kit worked (It loaded games off of SD cards! Amazing!) I distinctly remember my dad telling one of the employees, "my kid has been really into this game named Zelda lately. Have you heard of it?" Anyway, I'm pretty sure that's the most important thing an Arizona studio has ever done for game development. Edit: Oh my god, the studio still exists and is now called Rainbow Studios. I stand corrected - Arizona has made multiple games, apparently!!
It's too late in the evolution of gaming, games now and in the future aren't/won't be different enough from Wii games, they wouldn't just give them away in a package like that. They'll only ever remaster or just emulate them on modern hardware.
@@snertttMaybe you can put your new console onto a Wii shell and get a download code for a couple of Wii games I think. I believe N64 classic edition and game boy colour/game boy advanced classic edition is more likely
The answer as to, "why doesn't Nintendo make more Classic Editions" is simple: because they're not struggling with the Switch. Big companies like Nintendo or LEGO would lean into these niche but fan-favorite items for a good value if they were in a financial slump; that's why the NES and SNES classic consoles came out and when they did. In a weird way, I kinda hope we get dives in the market so that they would cater to fans more directly. That's why every Mario anniversary is less exciting than every Kirby anniversary: Kirby entices its audience as a lesser-but-still-popular Nintendo franchise, Mario on the other hand, doesn't have to try hard when people will buy it anyways. If Mario fell out of popularity for a while, which given its history and legacy is hard to happen, then Mario would have to do something groundbreaking to come back on top. But while it sits up high for Nintendo properties, installments can be frequent but barely innovative, like the long-running New Super Mario Bros games.
yeah nintendo, sony and microsoft always do some of their coolest stuff to remain competitive when they're taking their biggest L's, but the moment they start succeeding they get all big headed and stop cuz they know they dont have to try anymore since their back on top. we'd probably see stuff like a n64 classic and mother 3 localization if the switch 2 were to flop, lmao. nintendo be keeping all sorts of stuff for their rainy day i bet

For a while the online portion of Tri became lost media, and there was a huge fan project in the more niche parts of the community to get a private server of it running. Monster Hunter games all have an online 'hub' and Tri's was particularly immersive and memorable due to it being pretty large (which may have been less convenient for the player, but also made it leave a bigger inpression) and it tied into the lore with the monster Jhen Mohran, with the hub town basing some of its culture around the beast. If this hub was brought online again in an official fashion, it would mean a lot to the community that loves this game.

@@alphaLONE I can see one reason why. Several N64 Virtual Console ports such as Sin & Punishment, Super Smash Bros, F-Zero X, & Yoshi’s Story have the Classic Controller’s buttons mapped differently from each other and not like how the original N64 Controller was mapped; that was later fixed for the Wii U Virtual Console via the Button Mapping option. Another thing is how Nintendo might emulate the games for it. Everyone, including myself, have been criticizing the lack of fixed with several games via Nintendo Switch Online (it’s also been the issue with Sega Genesis on NSO and I’m worried that the recently-included GBA might be the same situation).

It's always, "When is the next warioland game!?"
This is one of my favorite games on the switch and one of my favorite Capcom fighting games but it’s impossible to put it in a wii classic. License nightmare is the reason.

With the N64 as an underselling console, topped with many offerings on the Switch Online service, Nintendo wouldn't consider making a classic console for that generation.
As much as some fairly weak machines can emulate GameCube and Wii these days, I just don’t think releasing a system that solely does that seems economically viable right now. For Fire Emblem, Nintendo did include Fire Emblem: Monsho no Nazo(FE3) on the Super Famicom Mini. As far as Radiant Dawn being an "older Fire Emblem" it is a modern Fire Emblem title mechanically. Epic Mickey really deserves to be on there imo. Not only did it sell well but it also has not been re-released ever and it deserves to be playable again.
I just hacked my SNES mini, it's so freakin wicked. I have the old 3ds eshop theme playing on the main menu and added gba and arcade games into the mix. It rocks.

I just bought my third Wii this year. I had a library still and some GC games, plus the accessories. But for what I want, it makes sense. I like having a lot of different ways to play games, I play light gun games on it and guitar hero, there's the racing wheel, also I use the balance board for snowboarding like Alpine Rider in the arcade and its pretty fun, its a very resonsive peripheral often overlooked. And that's my point. I like the motion control regulars like Zelda and Metroid as well as many lesser likes games because I've learned the finicky motion controls, but the real value is in those Zapper games and in using the balance board and Punch Out like I used to play it with the U Force. I always liked Nintendo for innovating and fun gameplay, and I know how to get that out of the Wii. Without all that and a deep knowledge of the library I don't know if people would get the potential. It's in all the weirdness. My Wii is my only dedicated console anymore, and I am happy with it. Stuff's pretty cheap, too.

yeah wario land shake it is such a fun game, and honestly kinda underrated. i feel people constanly like to take potshots on it for really arbitrary reasons outside of the shaking gimmick, which yes got annoying p quickly but not as egregious as making it the jump function like in dk country returns. but seriously listening to them cry about the aspect ratio borders? but then go on to defend a rather mediocre game like kirbys epic yawn, bruh
@@helenhomunculus5044 Yeah, I definitely think the game is remembered way too much for its artstyle and not the excellent gameplay- I love the collectathon aspect of it, no one ever mentions that! If they ever did we classic edition, I think they would include a certain number of full we games, and a certain number of we wear titles. This was true that people get to experience some original. We were content and the best we games.
Go Vacation was one of my favourite childhood games and I cannot believe the disrespect it was shown (tbf, it can't compete against WSR on a classic console)
Thank you for shouting out Sin & Punishment. The Wii and N64 games are some of the most slept on games of all time and easily two of the finest action games ever made. Absolutely essential to both libraries
Monster Hunter Tri wouldn't be a great inclusion because Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate exists, which is just an enhanced version of the game with more monsters and all twelve weapon types that existed at the time, unlike Tri which only had seven of the weapons for some reason. Plus MH heavily relies on online for its co-op multiplayer, which is a huge part of the game. I'd rather see Capcom re-release the old MonHun games as a legacy collection on all platforms instead. So, no, excluding it from the list does not upset me. Tri's not a bad game, there's just a better version of it and it wouldn't really fit the mini-console format.
im extremely nostalgic for Animal Crossing City Folk but i didn’t play Wild World. i’d spent a ton of time with the Gamecube AC so City Folk felt like a **gigantic** improvement.
The Wii Classic Edition needs to not only have at least 20 games built in, it should also allow you to play disc games you currently own, since Wii discs are dirt cheap, because lot of people like the soccer moms bought them during the height of Wii era. I would be so upset if they skipped right over the N64 and Gamecube. It had such a small library in the first place you could easily put all of the fan favorite titles on it.
19:37 "I'm a wee enjoyer"
Radiant Dawn would definitely have to be on it.
32:00 cries in fire emblem radiant dawn
That was so weird...
Let's go!! De blob is mentioned yet again! 49:29 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hidden gem that I would love to have included is Fishing Resort. One of the best fishing games on the Wii imo
no cap, one of the best fishing games ever made, dare i say
Holy shit, never thought I'd see someone else acknowledge that game's existence. It's got such a nice vibe to it.
Epic Mickey really deserves to be on there imo. Not only did it sell well but it also has not been re-released ever and it deserves to be playable again.
Too bad it has a Disney license so it's hard to rerelease it.
@@ludexia5338 Split Second moment
Good thing it’s coming out again on switch
Until now
The Japan Exclusive Mystery Dungeons that were on the Wii would be ace.
I just hacked my SNES mini, it's so freakin wicked. I have the old 3ds eshop theme playing on the main menu and added gba and arcade games into the mix. It rocks.
Depending on the specific arcade games, that might dilute the idea of a mini "Nintendo" based console into becoming a custom emulation box with whatever.
@@notsyzagts7967 It definitely does, but if someone wants their hacked SNES Classic to play arcade games that have NOTHING to do with Nintendo, I say let them
Before we get a Wii Classic, I want a GameCube Classic.
Both would be legit tho
They haven't even made an N64 Classic, either.
Dead console classic
@@evdestroy5304I think people value the Gamecube more today than when it was new. I think they might be more successful with a Classic version than we think they'd be.
Virtual boy classic 😈
Ngl seeing Rainfall Operation getting cut down to just Xenoblade isn't surprising but it is depressing.
scot nerding out with the fellas. seriously though, how do you memorize the publishers???
Despite the Wii being 18 years old, I feel like it’s too modern to be made into a classic edition
I can see this being a massive hit if it were to ever become a reality, maybe in the 2030s or something.
Scott hasn't finished Other M. He should continue to not finish it.
Man, I would push for 10 WiiWare games. The fact that none of the ReBirth trilogy have a way to legally purchase them right now when Castlevania Adventure ReBirth is one of the best 2D Castlevania games of all time is a disgrace. One day I hope Konami packages those and sells the ReBirth trilogy on Switch for like $20-$30.

Having AntDude and Scott discuss De Blob is the greatest Valentines day gift i could have asked for.
These two have such amazing chemistry.
THE COLLAB OF THE CENTURY
❗️My Timestamps:
0:14 My Hackchi'd NES Mini is on E-Bay, as of Thursday 15th February 2024.
Eventually, the Hackchi'd SNES Mini and the Hackchi'd Mega Drive Mini will go on it too once I've played with them, one last time.
They're cool little devices but I can play these retro games on either my N3DS:XL, R4 Card (DS) or BittBoy: Pocket-Go.
36:46 Why does NO ONE mention how BADLY implemented the online was in 'GoldenEye Reloaded'?
One of the players was the HOST and if the Player-Host ragequit, all other players would be forced to leave the round, causing you to LOSE your hard-earned EXP.
Definitely needs to include Ultimate Duck Hunting
Nah, I think Ultimate Duck Hunting should be there instead. It's way better.
QUACKQUACKQUACKQUACKQUACK
The Last Story is so good. I love that game.
Yeah! The last time I tried emulating, it was on dolphin, tho. It's been a while 😅
Every Nintendo Fan: we want Sin and Punishment 2, Metroid Prime 3, Wario Land Shake It and Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii Classic.
Nintendo: you guys gonna get Wii Sport, Wii Play, Wii Sport Resort, Wii Party, Wii Play Motion, Wii Fit, Wii Chess, Wii Music and Mario Party 9.
Nintendo: and throw in imagine party babyz, for good measure!
@@helenhomunculus5044 Nintendo not that’s stupid to put shovelware.
They gonna put casual games but not 3rd party shovelware.
I would prefer nintendos choice there
@@memediatek so you want mario party 9 over smash bros brawl?
Imagine if they did both.
Elebits as well as Trauma Center: Second Opinion and Link’s Crossbow Training should be on the Wii Classic. Those games rock!
Link's Crossbow Training is cool, but if one were to pick it as one of the thirty games to represent the Wii, it would cause riots.
YOU GUYS TALKED ABOUT LITTLE KING'S STORY I'M SO HAPPY 😭
the amount i went from not pissed to pissed when Wario Land got tossed
(its one of my favourite Wii games)
yeah wario land shake it is such a fun game, and honestly kinda underrated. i feel people constanly like to take potshots on it for really arbitrary reasons outside of the shaking gimmick, which yes got annoying p quickly but not as egregious as making it the jump function like in dk country returns. but seriously listening to them cry about the aspect ratio borders? but then go on to defend a rather mediocre game like kirbys epic yawn, bruh
I played Dragon Quest Swords like crazy as a kid, and they just disregarded it in 15 seconds 😢
@@Cainenghis OMG ME TOO I LOVE DRAGON QUEST SWORDS- my piss levels are even higher now.
@@helenhomunculus5044 Yeah, I definitely think the game is remembered way too much for its artstyle and not the excellent gameplay- I love the collectathon aspect of it, no one ever mentions that! And yeah I think most of their problems with the game, while certainly valid are nitpicks (I never really had any problems with either, the shake isn't particularly obtrusive at all to me), but it if I was thinking ab what Nintendo would put on a Wii Mini id also prolly ommit it LMAO
It looks good, but it was an obvious one to be cut with all the other 2D platformers and Wario already having a game included.
Barrel Blast, put it in
1:23:37 change donkey kong to super Metroid and Zelda to link to the past
I could listen to these two all day
What should we do for Valentine's Day? I KNOW, LETS TALK ABOUT THIS WII!
It was Valentine's Day and they talked about the Wii, yet no mention of We Dare? 😥
Klonoa deserves so much more in this cold, dark, messed up world we live in.
Mega Man 9 could fit in Wii Aware titles.
If they ever did we classic edition, I think they would include a certain number of full we games, and a certain number of we wear titles. This was true that people get to experience some original. We were content and the best we games.
Cooking Mama is an essential Wii experience
Cooking mama on the DS will always be my favorite. It felt like I was really pouring water into a ramen cup!!!
babysitting mama! 👶
Yes! Getting podcast vibes. Amazing 🎉
The sound effect you used when putting entries on the list is the same as my work notification sound it was driving me insane
Spot on. But I would make the case for mhfu on a psp classic with simulated adhoc functionality.
City Folk getting cut hurt my soul
The Boom Blox passion is so nice to see. Best wii series
I love these discussion videos with you and ant
im extremely nostalgic for Animal Crossing City Folk but i didn’t play Wild World. i’d spent a ton of time with the Gamecube AC so City Folk felt like a **gigantic** improvement.
Had this on in the background to a wedding i was in, thank you for something to take my mind off 🙏
14:04 we know you do
The Wii Classic Edition needs to not only have at least 20 games built in, it should also allow you to play disc games you currently own, since Wii discs are dirt cheap, because lot of people like the soccer moms bought them during the height of Wii era. But nowadays you can easily find used Wii consoles online and thrift shops, since they become dust collectors!
These are great podcast type interviews! 💯
you can see the blue border trying to creep onto Ant's life in this video
CAUGHT SCOTTS STASH UPLOAD EARLY!!!
AntDude is crazy actually for that City Folk comment
Another chill video awesome
I have so much nostalgia for Mario Super Sluggers. It is such a goofy baseball game with so many characters and game modes.
Consider a wii classic edition with a separate gamecube expansion you can get plugging in a little memory card and gamecube controllers in the slots
I never thought I'd see the day when I'd see the name "iRacing" on a Scott video (iRacing bought Monster Games, 1:03:08)
Final video i watch at work today.
Hey back to work :3
More of these videos please! I would like to see more Nintendo ones, and other brands too. Like Sega, Sony, Atari, etc! Keep up the great, fun, especially entertaining videos!
That was an era!
I feel like Antdude's arguments against Animal Crossing City Folk would also apply to Mario Kart Wii. Of course, they would not skip Mario Kart Wii because it is one of the most popular Mario Kart games. But generally, games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros are "the new one or bust" as well
Honestly just full on rereleasing the wii would do well I think. It’s gonna people my age wanting to relive their childhoods
8:10 miss the dance!!!
