One more suggestion: Maybe you should do a " best inexpensive guitars " video with maybe the top 3 or 5 guitars you've demo'd? Just a thought. Kinda a zoom out video. 🤘♥️🤘
You can get shorter replacement Allen headed grub screws very cheaply via the internet and swapping them out is a doddle! I tend to go for slightly longer ones for the D & G saddles and shorter ones for the E, D, B and E to compensate for fretboard radius.
I could tell you liked this one even before you said anything.. You played it a lot more than some of the really cheap ones. This guitar was sold by a Japanese company. Looks like the Japanese keep the quality up even when they have their stuff built in China. This Tokai seems a lot better than the Zuwei you demonstrated last week. Good playing. Have a good one.
Funny story. I have a MIJ version, I was invited to play with a well known local blues guy (through a mate) that had an epic collection US/MIM strats. I took my MIJ Tokai for a laugh, I’m not a strat guy. Well, it smoked everything in this guys studio. I absently minded almost said “you know……this Tokai is the best sounding thing here….” But my mate (the inviter), shot me a dirty look as I started to speak, knowing exactly what I was about to say as it was so obvious how good the Tokai sounded. So I shut up. 😂 I’m still not a strat guy but huge respect for the MIJ Tokai strata.
The orignal Tokai's that were made in Japan were an excellent alternative to a Fender Strat, and are now sought after, sadly i sold mine to buy an Ibanez which was far easier to play. As for this sample, typical issues from guitars made in China, no problem for us, but a new player would need to pay for a setup. I would pay a bit more and go for a Sire S7, better spec and setup out of the box, they are so good that i bought one last year. Thanks for showing us this Tokai Elmo.
I’ve had one in white for a while now. Top looks to my eyes to be going creamy. A little bit heavy to be sure. I have had some tuning stability issues using the whammy bar moderately. A couple of the frets also a little rough when I bought it. But I tried three Fenders in the store and didn’t like any of them. The owner said try this Tokai and I bought it on the spot. And mine came with a Tokai padded gig bag. Well worth a look I’d say.
I have a Tokai Love Rock, les paul type guitar, and it's pretty good. I'm looking for a strat type for the next guitar. The Tokai looks good, but considering a Classic Vibe can be found for up to 200€ less, i really can't justify the difference.
As a wise man from Finland once said , bwoah.. Body looks a bit bumpy in the reflections of the light. Looks like thick paint. A local store here sells Tokai Les Pauls.
I don’t disagree about the MIM but being that I have one and really like it I am curious and want to buy one of these. Well I? I don’t know. I always enjoy these videos
@@ernieb3626 I also have a MiM that I have customised and upgraded which plays as good as any American of similar era and spec. I think I would be more tempted to buy a decent Harley Benton strat copy and then upgrade that and I think would probably get bigger bang for your buck.
@@Ashbash75 I think I'd buy a good used Americans ' alot of times you can find those that don't need modded and sometimes have even been modded for cheaper than you can get a mim and spending the money on them to mod.
@@keithclark486 If you are in the USA I would agree with you but nearly all american strats are overpriced and expensive here in the UK. But agree that would make the most sense 👍🏻
Tokai guitars are amazing value for money, even the ones made in China. I have a couple of Tokai Les Paul Juniors that are from their Chinese operation, just replaced the pickup and the electronics and I'd put it up against anything Gibson markets. Beautifully playable, good quality woods and well finished. I'd always been wary of Chinese made guitars, but it seems that under the QC of a top flight Japanese company, they do get it right. I have read that quite a few Japanese makers have been outsourcing at least some of the manufacturing to China for quite a while now, even if they do often finish them off in Japan. But seriously, if it's good, who really cares where it was made, as long as the workers aren't being exploited?
Dear Elmo, thanks a lot for these reviews and videos. I find them really useful. I would like to ask you if you could please check the Sire Larry Carlton S one day -I do believe someone already might have asked for this one in another videos though-
I have never checked out a tokie. In my head they are mid priced and as prices rise any shopping im doing will become low priced (if its even worth it) guitars. Im in this place of do i buy it now on a credit card or wait till my amp payment are finished. Its hard to say what the better value is
I don't have an electric guitar at the moment, haven't been playing at all during the last few years, but would like to start again. If you don't mind me asking, would you recommend this over the Squier CV Strat? I'll be keeping my eye on used guitars as well, but at the moment there isn't much available near me. Meni kanava tilaukseen samantien!
Very cool. It's really red. 😂 I think at that price I would probably get something used, but that's me. Man, your distortion always sounds great thru that amp. Of course your playing is fucking epic, excuse the English. 😂 That whammy bar Euro siren is always cool. 😂😂 Great demo sir. I would like to see you try the 3oo or 4oo dollar Ibanez S style guitars that are new. Their cheaper guitars made for beginners. It has a 25" scale and interesting pickup wiring called dynamic that gives you more options. ♥️🤘 Thanks man and I hope all is well and be Safe my friend. ♥️🤘🤘
21 frets...? Nein nein nein and NO! For $500USD on a basic "Strat" copy it better have mastercraft level switch's/pots/jack, heavy gauge wiring, & high quality metal tremolo block... and 22 Frets... :)

Been thinking about something like that.
Tokai are the past masters of emulating classic guitars, the 70's models are now highly collectible!

My first guitar that I still own is a Tokai Goldstar Strat copy. Wonderful guitar.

Tokai does make quality stuff. I have a MIJ Tokai P-bass which I prefer over my Fenders.
It sounds so great. You played awesome that amazing guitar! I hope something like that using Laney CUB-SUPER12 😢
Beetween this and yamaha pacifica 112v, which one do you prefer? Thx for your trusted reviews, love your channel

Yeah, it's a good one.
Sick Bee Gees. You should try those Fender Player PLUS strats, noiseless pickups.
Maybe at some point.
Another great video as always elmo :)
Thanks for giving us your honest reviews always :) love this Chanel
Thank you :)
It has the same price of the Squier Classic Vibe but is a lot better in every aspect!
I think I would spend an extra couple hundred euros and buy a good used MiM strat. Although not bad value for €400

I remember in 1980 that many dealers told me the 1980 Tokai Strats were better than Fender.
Some of your playing sounds like you like Jeff beck. Awesome video. Thanks for this, I will have to check out the Tokai brand.
Thanks! Yeah, JB is great 😊
I got a squier paranormal toronado. best guitar I ever owned and it only cost $400.
This may be my favourite guitar review of all time. :-)
Thanks!

Kiitos! I like the CV, but this one's good as well. Try before you buy.
You can get a Jackson Adrian Smith SDX MN SW for under 500€
sadly, only with a floyd rose. And a lot of people (like me) don't like floyd.

Nice guitar great playing you speak English very well is it a second language in Finland or did you study English in school
I watched the Sky Channel as a kid and learned that way. Later I've watched tons of British comedy, and also studied English at University.

From a local music store.
That's a brand that's hard to come by in the States.

:D
affordable to whom?
To me for example. Certainly it is, compared to proper Fender.
its $1000 in Australia while the Fender Player Lead III is $899..so maybe just europe
