  • In this video, we’re sharing our list of the best personal flying machines currently in development, including some of their technical specs and features. These are eVTOLs that can accommodate only one pilot or passenger and are still in prototype stages. Watch until the end to see the most amazing aircraft on this list!
Until recently, the idea of flying cars remained a fantasy popularized in literary or cinematic fiction. Inventors and startups from all over the world had to look to the sky to offer any meaningful solution to traffic congestion problems. However, most cities lack the necessary space to accommodate vehicles that require runways, such as planes and jets. Innovations in vertical take-off and landing were needed for small flying machines to be practical and maneuverable. Nowadays, electric vertical take-off and landing technologies (eVTOLs) are becoming a big part of the future of aerospace mobility. The most noticeable benefit of these types of aircraft is the low operating cost, as they are considerably less expensive to buy, fuel, and maintain than conventional aircraft.

My only thought is that any design putting the passenger/controller up higher than the propellers is creating a higher center of gravity that will only make the machine more unstable and require extra effort to maintain stability. With the propellers higher, and the passenger lower, it drops the center of gravity and makes it more stable. It looks cool to make it look like a flying motorcycle, with the controller riding it like a bike, but it's a less efficient design.

Tilt Wing versions have a big disadvantage unfortunately.
I have built and tested many RC VTOL planes including tilt wing versions over 16 years. The
1960's tests already concluded their problems over 60 years ago ( including tail sitters)
Even light to moderate winds during a stationary hover attempt with a vertical
wing (like a boat sail) causes untold hassles with stability and using excess power just to maintain stationary and dangerously unstable with wind gusts.
A horizontal fixed wing VTOL with it's nose into the wind has little to no issue with wind gusts.
Tilt motor / props are ok, tilt wings are NOT. My

    • @GergC0521
      @GergC0521 2 ปีที่แล้ว

To be able to glide, you need a lot of wing, which take the design out of the "personal, out of my garage" type vehicle. I think the blades on all of these are also too short for auto-rotate like helicopters have. I think the best you can have at least in these personal size vehicle is an auto land when the battery gets low, or like some small planes have, a parachute (Cirris for example).

Now once these start getting imported into the U. Future models imo will have the propellers shielded in a way that will increase the lift by rotating the insucked air around its axel and profiting from the upward pressure.. plus the cover might be lightweight overall disc shaped, again to produce lift when a vertical forward motion is present, this stuff is dangerous as hell imo with those blades open.. vtols might be monitored on some auto ai grid.. partially pre set to prevent collisions is my guess.. actually it will be a lot like a jetson cartoon type of thing is my idea.. auto balanced-powered .. some safety instalments incase of powerloss might be reasuring.. the final propelers will be different to is my guess .. more shaped like those vertical up flying toys where you pull a cord from the handle..

    5) 40 mins or less flight time, lands automatically when battery voltage is low, props below knee level, what could go wrong?
    4) Same as number 5, flight times are bad, props at the bottom (Yea it'll never flip), no seat, long sticks to control flight ( I guess there're made from unbendable metal in case someone loses their balance?)
    3) Well so far this seems like the safest one but, no mention of flight time or height it can go. I think the main problem would be it's a kit.
    4) Too expensive, not enough flight time.
    5) Why? 31 mile range, most likely well over $100k and a 200lb payload. So small people only need to buy.
I see no need to ever buy one of these if they ever come to market. I would prefer if these engineers/inventors would concentrate on using a small generator, esc and electric motors. You'd get a lot more range (hundreds of miles more range) and a little less expensive. Battery technology isn't here yet to be a reasonable choice for aircraft.

I doubt very much that any of these will be viable at least until there is a breakthrough on battery energy density and weight. The only prospect for such batteries I see anytime in near terms is development of those based upon super light and energy dense Graphene. Lots of work in progress on such batteries. Of course, such batteries would be ripe for any number of uses, but critical to aircraft. The problem is that Graphene, while incredible capable of storing electric charge and weighs virtually nothing, releases it all at once and acts as a capacitor. Graphene is also enormously difficult to manufacture in bulk because it is one atom thick and must be applied to a substrate.
If you have batteries with, say, a couple thousand KWhs of charge with light weight under 100 lbs., then you have something that can stay airborne a decent time, unlike those mentioned here.

Yes because standing or sitting right above a human blender instills tones of confidence in most people. Simply these are for fun only with $70k price tags or the like and well it's not worth it. For these to work they need one to three hours flight time, emergency power, charge at tesla power stations, fit in a parking space, carry 300 pounds or more so you can actually put stuff in the thing and use it to go shopping and the like. Closed cockpit for safety, emergency parachute, impact seat, crumple zones. landing gear and or rollers to maneuver on ground if need be.

These are all fantastic machines and the idea of air cars has been around for many years but I think it would be totally unworkable. The fact is that there are simply too many people who can barely cope with driving in 2 dimensions. Add a third dimension and there will be bodies falling out of the skies all day long.

    4. Dragonair = another top heavy design with ugly asthetics.
    3. Jetson One = a little small and cramped.
    2. Blackfly = poorest visibility for pilot.
    1. Vahana = not going anywhere too bulky and not suitable for average people.

I like them all, but the Jetson's price of $56,000, is way too much. A car, which has more mechanical and electrical parts, can be had for less. Not many will buy at that price. With a much lower price point, they can push those things out on assembly line.

You can't fly a car, I think at this stage these thing's are just toy's for the rich boys, you know the kind I mean pay a £100K for a watch or £30K on some silly trainers. As for price on the Jetson, she's got it wrong on price it's $92K as a kit to build yourself & if you want them to build it's another $22K on top. As for selling the 1st 15 have sold & 1st 12 delivered in 2022 (sold out) so year wait at least, I presume chassis 13 to 24 will be delivered in 2023.

The idea of using a DJI drone-like operation for aerial videography or photography is an interesting and creative concept. However, there will be plenty of practical challenges and safety considerations to take into account.
