Vintage 1970s MEGO Batman Figures Restoration Part 1 - Batman, Robin, Joker & Penguin

- I picked up four MEGO Batman figures a few weeks back. They're 40 plus years old and need some restoration.
In this first part, we examine each figure to determine what actually needs fixing and create a shopping list of parts.

I always enjoy these MEGO figures. Also back in the day they had fun commercials for them!
Yeah, there's something about them plus there's so much variety!! 👍 To be honest, I don't remember the commercials, will have to look them up!! 😎

This was a great video Dave. What you have learn't to do well is jump cuts. Punching through slow sections is a more engaging video. I hope you don't mind a video critique as your content about restoring these is brilliant. The B-roll you chose is awesome! Great Video!

Yeah interesting all the different types, was fun for me researching all the revisions Mego has made over their 70s period. Nice one can get joint pins now from vendors, no need for metal screw fixes heh.
Definitely fun to learn about all this stuff. I've managed to find replacement pins and those screws are no longer. There will be the final part of the restoration coming soon 👍 Thanks for watching!!

Thanks! Part 2 was published a while back where I restore the clothing. Part 3 is currently on going where I'm fixing the bodies and completing the job. Sometimes it takes me ages to get back to a restoration 😂
Love Mego. Had Robin, spock and a planet of the apes soldier. I guess they were on sale back in the day 😆

What a great video, Dave! I'd forgotten I had these when I was a kid until you showed them in the last video. This video brought back even more memories when I got a closer look at those oven mitts and those huge snaps to keep their soft goods clothing on. I can't wait to see them all finished! And by the way, love the CHiPs figure that's in the background!

Nice set of figures, although, it sounds like The Penguin needs to cut down on the cigarettes.
I had Superman & the larger Batman & Spider-Man who's also suffering from the common dodgy knee, be interesting to see how you sort it out.
Thanks!! 🙏 Yeah, the clothing really does smell of smoke!! The 12 inch versions I think have similar joints so should be fixable in the same way. I'm gonna purchase some replacement pins which hopefully should do the job!! 👍

Whay Branf of Paint and Brushes you use
Brushes - nothing expensive, I tend towards quantity rather than quality, anything from the local hobby shop. Paints - varies, typically Humbrol, Tamiya, Vallejo. Except for chrome paint where I'm more picky! I'm actually doing a 'Battle of the Chrome Paints' video soon! 👍 Thanks for all your comments! 🙏
Do you nake your own Sculpting tools
Time is limited, so I'll generally buy tools, although for toy restorations, you don't need that many 👍

I got them as a bundle of four and given the condition the price was actually pretty good - I like to restore stuff so am always on the look out for projects 👍
