I’ve been making a list of things I’d to accomplish during my self quarantine. Clean out the garage, sew bedroom curtains, clean the oven... etc. I now am going to add to that list, cut hair!!
I’ve been using the “ponytail method” for a few years but I’d like to try the “point cut method” and see if that gives a better result. I’ve never been afraid of cutting or coloring my own hair and always get compliments. It could also be that I dye my long hair a pretty shade of sangria red, not many women want to maintain the color but I love it!!

Been cutting my own hair for a while now, partly because I'm on a tight budget, and also the fact that the hairdresser almost always never cut it the way I ask.

same i just don't trust anyone with my hair and i've never gotten exactly what i wanted at salons they always do what *they* want to do so i just stopped going
Scared? I'm traumatized haha. Dramatic, I know. The last time I cut my hair at a salon was a disaster! The lady didn't do the best job and she really messed up my hair. She even had the audacity to complain about my hair. Like it was hard to cut, it was ugly and she recommended to make straighten it. Pffft as if. The look on her face when I didn't give her a tip. After that, I learned to cut my own hair and so far, no disasters 😂
OMG QUICK RANT IMMA GO OFF OK so i’ve gone to a hair salon to get my hair cut twice and BOTH times it has turned out the OPPOSITE of how i wanted the cut to look like.
LIKE i even show the ladies several pictures and give them a detailed description of how i want my hair cut BUT NO they always want to do it their way and give me layers cause “it will look better” LIKE SIS NOOO my hair always ends up looking like it just came out of an early 2000s magazine OOF

A little tip to cut down on getting covered in hair... powder down any bare skin on your neck, shoulders, back, chest, and even your arms. It will prevent the hair from sticking to your skin and make what does stick easier to brush off. Hope this helps. Your haircut is adorable! ~ Lisa

I cut my own hair about once a year (and go to the salon once or twice), but I've been growing it out a bit so I wasn't planning on doing it again anytime soon. But your hair looks so gorgeous in this that I just lopped a couple of inches off and gave myself a bob again! No regrets haha

I watched this and did it! I had an angled lob but I saw someone with a similar hair type to me with a shorter angled bob and I immidiately changed my mind and wanted a regular bob. I'm so happy with the result! I was nervous the whole time and took frequent stops esp since I actually had no handheld mirror I was just kind of feeling away at the back. (It turned out okay). I hope you guys get the courage to cut your hair if you really want to!

used this tutorial as a guide except I did the back using my back turned to the wall mirror holding a hand mirror infront of me to see the back of my head, it turned out awesome, i found doing it in layers especially useful. thanks for the tutorial!

Thank you, saw your old video. This is a great update. Like Terry below, I'm on a tight budget, and the hairdresser never does my hair the way I ask. The last one cut my fringe in an arc! It looked like a toddler cut my hair. And there's always long bits around my ears. I can do it better with your help now!

I wish I found this last year, just tried it with little hope to fix a desperation haircut done at the height of the COVID lockdowns and wow... it really wasn't hard at all. I always made a habit to get a blunt bob a few times a year to cut off all the excess hair when it was driving me nuts and have been waiting months for covid lockdowns/my favourite hairdresser to be available. six months of frustration solved in a couple of hours in front of the mirror. Now I won't need to wait ever again :)

I loved your video and the haircut. You did it so quickly and by sight, which is just amazing to me. That style is almost exactly what I'd been paying $75+ for the last 10 years at a salon with the same stylist I've been going to for nearly 30 years. Due to several very bad/sad circumstances, it's been 2.5 years since I've been able to afford anything that isn't absolutely essential, including a decent haircut. So my thin/fine hair has grown almost to my waist, looks awful with split ends all over, and an uncomfortable ponytail or braid is about all I can manage. So I've watched a lot of the "cut your own hair videos" thinking that's what I've got to do. Yours is by far the very best I've seen and the style and your method is exactly what I want to do. So I'll have to buy nice sharp hair cutting scissors; an essential purchase if I'm going to make cutting my own hair a regular thing from now on. I've seen them from $6 up to $500! Of course I'll be looking for some closer to the low end. And I've wanted a flat iron for years, but even at Walmart it's $50 for a short "generic" brand. So when you replied to the person inquiring what flat iron you were using, ghd platinum, I looked it up and it's $250 direct from ghd and others are much more expensive! Even used ghd platinum flat irons are being sold online at Amazon, Poshmark and other places for $200 or more! So what's a poor girl to do? Can you recommend any other decent flat iron that's under $50, won't burn off my hair and will last a couple of years? Sorry this is so long! But I've subscribed to your channel and will be enjoying watching all of your other videos!
P. S. A 13 gallon thin kitchen garbage bag or a small plastic table cloth from the dollar store with a hole cut out in the center to get your head through will keep the hair you cut off from sticking to your body and your clothes. No more bra hair :)! And another cheap table cloth for the floor to stand on will catch all the falling hair for easy clean up.
I'm poor as well! Honestly I just go for it without using a flat iron. And it turned out great! So it depends on the texture of your hair I guess. But I just get it super wet and then it seems straight enough for me to cut. Also I got the hair cutting scissors from a guy friend who uses it to cut his beard lol. So if you have a male friend with a beard, ask if they have beard cutting scissors you can borrow. Or just go ahead and buy the cheap ones. This girl in this video posted something similar a few years ago, and she was only using nail cutting scissors! And she was using them for years without a problem. Don't feel like you have to buy expensive scissors to make it work :)
@@user-eh6md6bj2i I took your advice and asked a guy who is meticulous about his mustache/goatee, he uses haircutting scissors from Dollar Tree. He said they were incredibly sharp and bought me some. I couldn't believe how sharp they are! So every time I wash my hair I take about an inch or so off. I still don't have the guts to go up to my shoulders yet, but little by little I'm going to get there! LOL!

Consignment shops (thrift stores) are amazing. I've seen very expensive hair tools, clothing, and much more for little to nothing! I'm actually addicted to shopping at these places.

+FoxTheChicken you should definitely give it a go! Sometimes it's not perfect the first time but you get better with practice and it's just so much more affordable and convenient doing it at home 😁

Hey, did you keep the inner most section of your back hair a teensy bit longer than the overall length? It looks like that and also, I had a blunt bob haircut a few days ago. The salon ppl kept my ones a tad bit longer.

Just tried this on myself. Not too bad, though I think I’d rather pay the extra $15-20 just to get it done next time.
I did okay, but the back is a little botched to the point where I’m a little anxious about it.
It’ll do for now, but the extra time, effort, and clean up afterwards wasn’t really worth the mediocre end result for me.
I will say it was an exhilarating experience though and fun to try. It’s certainly something I’d like to do again if I’m ever in a pinch!

A year ago i asked my mom to crop my hair (cz she's the one who always does my hair) she denied , i kept asking for a whole week and she still didn't budge... So i watched ur old video (the one with the small scissors) about 10 times and then decided to chop it off myslf.... It didn't turn out pretty good because it was my first time but I was soo happy at how it turned out to be. I got in soo much trouble with my mom but it was all worth it! Gonna do it again 😂
It´s looking great! I wish you would have shown how you did it in the back though, that seems like the trickiest part.
I’ve been cutting my hair at home during the plague. Hardest part is first snip! since I can’t go out (compromised lungs) even a bad cut wouldn’t be awful! But they are coming out great! I leave the part in front of my ears 1” longer than the rest. That way the part can be on either side or the middle. Works out great! I don’t angle it. It is just a drop one inch longer. Period. Oh! I also use use 2 rubber bands on each piece of hair. That way when I cut the pieces stay together. Less mess on initial cuts.

Currently in quarentine and school is cancelled for the rest of the year... Should I go for it? I usually cut my own bangs even if they look bad, I always brush it off because it grows back. I have done a lot of drastic cuts but have never cut my entire hair by myself. Should I just go for it? I mean, I can just go to the salon after lockdown anyway.

Pretty much what my hairdresser does haha for 75$ just another good tip to make it more choppy and less triangular when straight and take some weight off is to clip the top layer away and chip into next layer. She sort of takes she section be section and runs scissors from top down taking some weight off

I've gone to the hair salon twice these past week to get it shorter and shorter because I was scared to go too short all at once and then now I'm like I want it just a tiny bit shorter, but I dont want to waste money a third time 😂😂 so I'm just gonna say screw it and try it myself. My hair is naturally curly so if its uneven it wont be that noticeable hopefully 😂🤞

It’s November 21, 2020, last haircut was in March. Im 73 with thin gray hair, a HUGE cowlick, stuck in a nursing home, no opportunity to leave except doc visits never mind get a haircut and I’m desperate. The summer I turned 16 the girl I worked with cut her own hair and showed me how. I did it a few times back then and will try again even though my hands, fingers and arms are in sad shape (the old gray mare...etc🙄). Well, it DOES grow back...

Quarentine cut, here I go!
Going from my own experience doing it this way will leave it looking VERY dodgy from the back. Remember when you go to the salon hairdressers ask you to tilt your head forward when they cut the first bit at the back? It's to stop you getting the dodgy bit where if you cut it at the same level and tilt forward you will see the hair underneath and it just does not look good at all. I am going to get someone to help me with the back as I just don't think there's any way anyone can do it well themselves but it is still worth it, hair will grow back just do it and have fun!
