Often the 2015-2020 Fits rattle is due to a weakened VTC actuator locking pin spring. Replacing the spring with a new one designed for the actuator usually resolves the rattle.
Very interesting. No matter where you work someone else is always going to try to pass the buck. 😂 That is one of the cleanest I have seen on TH-cam, barely any varnish. If oil changes can’t prevent it, it’s just a feature. In my condo garage, I know the Accord and Corolla S behind me both have very loud rattles. One thing, do you know if the new style VTC actuator is less prone to rattle?
Haven't seen catastrophic damage in the fit yet but maybe one customer I keep telling him that the rattle has gotten worse and even rattles for a while after start up but he's gonna keep driving it like that. I have other videos on CRV that break guides.
@@theoffroadingmechanic I see, thanks for your reply bro. I have that problem on my Jazz right now actually since from winter i keep heard like craking sounds every time i starter my car in the morning and find out the problem is from VTC after i did service by tell them about that noise. But yeah still waiting from dealer get back to me cause i still have warranty.
I have done a second VTC on the early 2011 k24 motor in a CRV. But have to really wait and see after some mileage gets put on them and checking history if they have been done before.
Your vehicle maintenance reminder will tell you when you reach that mileage. Typically if your due for an oil change it'll be either an A, B or 0. And then corresponding numbers for what service. At a 100k your sub symbol 4 for spark plug valve adjustment you will get a new valve cover gasket along with it. Sub symbol 5 for coolant. And any other service that can show up depending on when you had done the other service or the last time they had been reset.

@theoffroadingmechanic thanks for answering my message. once the vtc is replaced, does the new vtc last without problems? I read that several people have had their new vtc start rattling again. I was looking for someone who can fix it right the first time as this repair is costly. It looks like you know what you are doing! Cool that your in BC, which city? I'm in Kamloops.
@Geraldowashere just make sure it's not the drive belt tensioner hitting the end of the travel it will also make a rattling noise in start up. No one ever replaces the belt because people usually replace them when they crack but Honda belts don't typically crack they do wear and increase the length of the tensioner. I have a video of this sound just make sure your costly repair isn't something as simple as a worn out accessory belt. I think I only had to replace one a second time on a CRV. And the Honda fit has an updated part. th-cam.com/users/shorts8o4a-Tml3pg?si=R5XXQrXXepYGXA1s
@@theoffroadingmechanic thanks, I'll have a look at the tensioner. If it does end up as the VTC, do l need to have the chain replaced as well? My local shop says I'll need a new chain, with the new vtc, as it may have stretched. The crv only has 70000 km so that sounds questionable and also triples the cost. Do you ever change the chain when replacing the vtc?
@Geraldowashere maybe this video will answer your question. All I can say is you really have to inspect and make that decision it can be out of timing just slightly but cause no issues or set a check engine light which is why it is important to check while removing everything. th-cam.com/video/NEMasv7Ve2Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=P_Qpn7dEb7RrzbIN I also had a low mileage accord that had broken timing chain guides good thing no other damage happened that would be this video. th-cam.com/video/rkEcqxeE7R4/w-d-xo.html
You are not kidding with vtc actuators going out.thank you for the video.
Nope. I'm also waiting for an HVAC unit for a prologue to come in. GM products....
2020 has VTC actuator rattle? That is odd. Thank you for sharing your experience.
It has to be on purpose. Honda is making too much money selling these parts
How does a manufacturer durability test an engine to death soon as it hits production vtc actuators start having issues how
They don't... The real durability test are the consumers.

Great video man I love these but make sure you take out the oil dip stick so you don’t forget to add oil when you come back
Great gob my friend I want you to fix my 2017 Honda I have the same problem where are you located??

The 1.5t, 2.0 don't rattle or I havent had anyone complain about rattles and all the new stuff for 2025 have gone electronic variable valve timing.
Hi, is that gonna be big problem if not going to fix it soon?

Hey H tech! - my tech is wondering do the 1.5 turbo engines on the newer CRV have any timing / timing chain issues?
I've done quite a few of them. Cam and crank correlation.
It is insane that Hondas still have thee issues. Is the replacement any better or will this still come back again?

Just get to the fix. I don’t need all the chit-chat.
