    Laura, you wanted to know of a different, unique cornbread stuffing. I used your recipe, but substituted chorizo for the bacon and creole seasoning for the poultry seasoning. It goes great with a pork roast, sweet potato casserole and seasoned brussel sprouts. I also made a homemade caramelized cranberry and apple sauce. This is what my Thanksgiving Dinner consisted of. It was great,and I enjoy your show daily, and you are one of my main inspirations.

      I use Tony's in my chicken and dressing....and of course, being from Texas, it is always cornbread dressing. I'll have to give the chorizo a try instead of bacon.

    We're making a 'Mofongo' Stuffing. Mofongo is a mash of fried green plantains that we make in Puerto Rico. Its absolutely DELICIOUS inside of any bird and specially turkey because all those tasty juices season the mash and its just.. UGH! Amazing! :D LOVED this cornbread stuffing recipe though!

    Spot on the exact recipe my family uses, without the bacon. Crispy on top, moist in the middle. Absolutely the perfect side with turkey. I don't understand anyone wanting to add crap like fruit, sausage, or (yikes!) oysters to a perfect dish. It's like putting whipped cream on pizza.

    I make my stuffing using frozen Hush Puppies near the Seafood Department, in your local grocery store. I usually use 2 bags for 2 people so I can have leftovers I use 4 or more bags for a large amount of stuffing to feed lots of people. Let the Hush Puppies thaw out, break them up into a casserole dish and add your other ingredients. Whatever you like and want to add. I like using unsalted chicken or vegetable stock, sage, salt and pepper, celery, sausage and/or turkey. Then, bake it on 350 deg. for 30 minutes in the oven. It is a wonderful shortcut to making a great stuffing! I learned this method from a friend of mine in Louisiana. We loved it last year!! I hope you try it, and I hope you love it like we do!!

    We had cornbread stuffing, too, though quite different from this. It was both sweet and savory because it had the normal celery and onions, but it had dried cranberries and diced apples in it as well. It sounded kind of odd at first but it you'd be surprised how good it was. :)

    Why would a cooked egg inside a cooked bird cause more bacterial growth than a cooked egg and a cooked bird separately? That's culinairy superstision.

  • @malloryg4251
    @malloryg4251 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This stuffing is outstanding!! The poultry seasoning gives amazing flavor, while the eggs give a wonderful richness and texture, almost like bread pudding. I only used 2 cups of stock and it was just moist enough. To save time, I purchased cornbread from my local bakery and allowed it to dry out a couple days before. Also, since I'm vegetarian, I used low sodium veggie stock instead of chicken broth. If you like a little extra decadence, top the stuffing with knobs of butter before baking. Thanks for this recipe, Laura!!

    We don't have Thanksgiving here in Mexico, but in Christmas we have the turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, etc., for the stuffing, use Stove Top... yup storebought, but my mom adds very finelly chopped spring onions, celery and ripe olives to it.
    They also make meat stuffing, personally, I hate it, can't stand even the smell of cloves in my food (maybe in ham, and just a little bit). But I can have bread stuffing for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and never get sick of it haha.

    My mom's cornbread stuffing is a family favorite, and it is not complete without SAGE!!!! it's very similar to this but instead of poultry seasoning she does her own herb combo, and sage is definitely the star. plus some hard boiled eggs that have been finely chopped and a few other magical things. yum! can't wait :)
