    I've had my Lenovo Duet for 2 years now and I absolutely love everything about it. It's one of the best purchases I have ever made. The screen is so bright, colorful, and 1080p. It's fast when surfing the internet. It has a detachable keyboard and backplate so you can use it as a very thin tablet if you wish. It has pretty good front and rear cameras. It has amazing battery life. I can't think of any major negatives about it.

It's an awesome device for my purposes. And I also have a PIxel Slate as well. That's used primarily for more work horse types of task. Chromebook duet 3 2022

  • @FredMcIntyre
    @FredMcIntyre 4 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    The Duet is what I've been looking for since 2011! .... I've had a few tablets over the years, but only ever really used them for a handful of games, when my Asus Transformer went, my gen2 Nexus 7 managed to carry me for the next couple years. By the time my Nexus 7 finally died my phone had become large enough to satisfy about half of the games that I played and I was on the fence as to whether or not I should spend the money on a new tablet, especially with how the pricing had gone up with newer more powerful tablets and a lack of reasonably spece'd affordable ones at that time. Fortunately for me it's around that time that the Samsung Chromebook plus was coming out and I also wanted to upgrade my gen1 Samsung Chromebook, knowing that the Plus would be gaining the ability to run Android apps sealed the deal for me. It worked really well for a while ( especially not being Windows 10 like my gen1 Yoga) but it's ultimately still too heavy to use comfortably for extended periods as a tablet. The Duet really hits that sweet spot, it's definitely a tablet first for me, but if I had to take just one device with me on the go (besides my phone) I'd hands down reach for it over the Plus! 😃👍🏻👊🏻

    • @brandonr4427

      Agreed on the tablet use! I have a chromebook pro and while I love it, it just isn't comfortable or enjoyable to use as a tablet. I am really looking forward to getting my duet next weekend. I hope the tablet experience turns out well.

  • @BassBeat66
    @BassBeat66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    First let me say that I love these reviews and this whole channel. I actually stumbled on to the initial review you did with the Duet back in January (though I didn't see it until about March/April), but it was your review that made the impression and the reason why I decided to buy it.
    I bought it as soon as I saw it was back on Best Buy (after your site said it was back) and after a delay, finally got it this past Tuesday, but wasn't truly able to play or enjoy it until Friday. I used it while playing a Jackbox game and not only was it perfect for the onscreen, touch interface, I was able to pop the keyboard on quickly for those prompts for writing. I also didn't have too bad of an issue with it on my lap using the kickstand; it was actually far much than my 2-in-1 laptop.
    I was able to use it for a Facebook group video a few moments ago and it was great and I'll be using it for a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning. My big test will hopefully come late in the day, as I bought primarily to replace both a laptop AND a tablet for writing. So far, I actually don't have the issue with the keyboard, then again my hands are small and about a week before my Duet came in, I ordered a USB C hub adapter, so I can use my USB mouse, USB thumb drive, headphones (though I did pair my bluetooth headset).
    I plan on taking it with me on the light rail come Monday when I have to go back into the office, so that'll be another test to see how it works while on the go. Battery wise, I think I've only dropped to about 70% and it's usually with 6+ hours left. Again, the real test will be tomorrow or Monday to see how long I can get; usually on my laptop, Chrome will kill my battery from 8 hours to 4 hours, which sucks can I do use Chrome a lot (hence the reason for the Chromebook). My goal is to test with just OneNote and Google Docs/Word.
    Android apps so far work great. I love how Docs immediately switches to Word when I open a Word doc and the display for streaming is incredibly. One annoyance is actually the Pluto TV app, which opens in the mobile portrait view before switching to landscape, which kinda sucks unless I've picked a channel to watch.
    I will say that another thing I'm impressed with is the built in Chromecast. A main issue on my Dell is that sometimes Chrome doesn't pick up our Chromecast, despite me literally sitting in front of the TV. That means many times I've had to go to my bedroom and use my desktop computer or download an app on my phone in order for it to work. Not only was I was I able to cast something from a streaming app (I think it was Sling), but I was able to type out a message and browse without issue.
    TLDR - I got the Duet based on your experience with it and am so happy, so far. Real tests to start tomorrow and through the week when I'm back at work.

    • @BassBeat66
      @BassBeat66 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@brianhitch360 It does. I ordered the QGeem 8 port hub from Amazon after I bought the Duet. Originally, I was only using it for my USB mouse, but since I started a new job, I actually use it to connect a portable monitor using HDMI.
      After a year, I still use it on just about daily basis; I've never had any issues with the keyboard (I don't have large size man hands lol) and I didn't have any type of learning curves; one thing I don't like is the one USB-C port, which apparently the Duet 5 fixes. I may upgrade next year or 2023 to that. But I'm certainly enjoying it!

    I purchased this tablet because I saw how cheap it was, price including the case and keyboard. I just wanted a tablet to mess around with at home and was planning on also buying a new laptop for college. I found out this little chromebook was perfect for school, its small, really good battery life for class, and for the online textbooks it worked surprisingly good. The lack of a headphone jack wasn't really a good deal for me since I was able to pair it to my apple airpods. For this price point, you can't beat it.

      ChromeOS supports Instant Tether. As soon as your Chromebook is woken up, your Android smartphone will start tethering data to it. When you put your Chromebook to sleep, it disconnects.
      It eats the phone's battery somewhat quickly, but it's not terrible. Instant Tether also likes to glitch out from time to time and just refuse to connect, but it's nothing a software update won't fix.

    This is actually kind of a solid thing to recommend to students that won't need high-powered software. People can jot down notes on this instead of getting a separate tablet and can do some light research and accessing PowerPoints. And if you need to write an essay, more tactile external keyboards (even budget mechanical ones) aren't too hard or expensive to get.

    This thing is crazy good, got the 128GB version for $250. Only glaring weakness' are the speakers, rear camera and supplied charger, all of which can be supplemented with items you probably already own. I use this more than my MacBook Pro in tablet mode on the couch or while on-call, just stuff it in the back pocket of my car seat if I get an urgent case while on the go. Fills in a gap that I don't want to pay big $ money for but provides excellent value and convenience at the same time.

    Chrome OS tablet mode has really gotten quite good lately. I picked up a Pixel Slate last year when they were on steep discount with a free keyboard and I used it in desktop mode a majority of the time until recently. I have the same thoughts as you did on the Duet in terms of finding myself using my Slate instead of my phone on the couch. Even when I'm in the office, I have it docked at my desk and I disconnect it and carry just the tablet around. In portrait mode, I can actually type pretty quickly because I swipe just like on my phone. I'm enjoying it so much that I sort of hope Google pulls a Google and reverses their stance on not making any more tablets. And I'm hoping that they DON'T pull a Google by discontinuing the thing just as it starts to get really good.

This tablet has 30% longer battery life than my Chromebook. My Chromebook has one USB-C , one 3.5mm phone jack, one HDMI port, one memory card slot and one USB 3 port but Duet tablet has only one USB-C port. Duet tablet has dual cameras but my Chromebook only has one camera. Otherwise both device have same amount of ram and storage space even the CPU is not much difference. One complaint I have after using this tablet for several months is the button placement. If you want to hold the tablet in portrait mode, you either need to be careful with the buttons or you need to worry about the camera.... if they just moved the buttons to the opposite side, it wouldn't have been an issue.
    A second complain I have is the fact that it randomly goes into tablet mode sometimes when I use it with the keyboard.
    Over all, this is a decent Chromebook for the price with the bad tablet being a bonus.
    But honestly, you need to look at this as a Chromebook that can become a tablet rather than as just a tablet.

Great for zoom calls and the various class portals the kids use to complete assignments. Adding android apps like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, TH-cam kids, is a huge plus and they all work perfectly. Gaming is also smooth, especially for my girls go to game, Roblox. Battery life is excellent! We start our day at 7:45 AM for classes and tablet last well past 4pm. As someone who absolutely didn't understand the value of chromebooks, I have to admit, I love this device. I needed something to throw in the bag for vacations and to access online work applications on the go. This fit the bill. It's not quick by any stretch of the imagination, but it is more than capable of handling the light work. The big plus is that the chrome browser isn't the mobile nightmare that I've had to deal with on other tablets. It's a regular browser. That alone made the purchase worth it. Then add that it has enough space to download movies from netflix for long plane rides and I can read my kindle books on the fly, and I knew I had a winner. It hooks up to any wifi immediately and keeps a strong connection. The more I use it the more I realize it's an absolute steal at current prices.

    Great review, thank you. I bought after your review (in the UK) about 3 weeks ago but I might be returning it.
    What I love: The use cases in which this has a new role. Makes me more productive as I get to use it in all kinds of situations where I could use my laptop but I don't want to get it. Good build quality, screen, battery life, etc. All the things you said.
    What I dislike: Living with no headphone jack. But, I learned to live with it. All ok so far.
    What I hate: It's SLOOOOW. It took me about 5 mins to write this comment. Emails (using Gmail) take up to 2 seconds just to open on-screen. For video calls, and watching shows it's superb. For reading emails, let alone typing into it, it's just really poor, which is a big shame because I will now always have a convertible Chromebook tablet after integrating this into my life.
    Hoping Lenovo (or someone) makes a much faster version of this otherwise brilliant thing.

    Thanks for the review. Here's my two cents. I would buy it again but it's not very useful for work. If I use it at work it's to check email and read documents. The keyboard is decently spaced and easy to type on. That's it for work. You see, Duet is not setup for using spreadsheets and I compared it with my Acer 715 that is a workhorse. The Duet does not have a 10key pad, does not have a dedicated delete key which are two minimum must-have's for spreadsheets. Another overall shortcoming is the Duet keyboard has to be on a flat surface. So, for my needs, Duet is not an all purpose notebook. What I really enjoy about Duet is it's amazing battery life, quick processor, bright screen, and compact size.

I found it listed for exact same price on two large competing electronic chains in Japan. Yodabashi Camera and Bicamera. Was really looking forward to purchasing this tablet in Japan but this might be a hard pass until it goes on sale. Love all the quality content, guys! Thank you.

    I was looking for a tablet mainly to be able to study music (keyboard). After looking for some budget devices, I've ordered the Huawei Mediapad M5 Lite. While I did like the device quite a lot, one thing that bothered me greatly was the fact that it was running on Android 8, and I found out later that there was no plans to update the OS.. Then I bumped into your review and, seeing that I had still 7 days left to return the M5 to Amazon, so I did and I ordered this one. Still waiting for it to be delivered but, really, thank you for the thorough review. The fact that this is a hybrid between tablet and chromebook and being able to download Android apps, and added to the fact that it's going to get updates until 2028 is a no brainer for me.

    Does it have a touch screen? I am disappointed that I overlooked the absence of the touch screen on the 2021 ASUS Chromebook, I'm considering returning it towards the purchase of a Lenova Duet in Chromebook. The touch screen is important to me.

      Happy to tell you it has a touch screen. You can use it as a tablet, or you can use it as a laptop by attaching the keyboard. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me and I'll try to answer. I own a Lenovo Duet and love it

    As I've been saying, Chromebooks need to ditch Intel and go Arm all the way. Intel just isn't good for mobile. Arm just gives you way more power and performance for the price. This is what the Pixel Slate should've been.

    The Lenovo Duet Tablet is the tablet hardware the OS needed to prove the viability of ChromeOS on a tablet. The price point is aimed at the lowest end iPads and Low to Mid range Android Tablets. The value jumps considerably with the included case, stand and keyboard.

    Just got mine yesterday at best buy for $250. Needed to replace an old chromebook. Really great bang for your buck. Only downside for me is a lack of cases. I'd like something to keep it better protected in tablet mode. Would like to see them with a bigger screen/keyboard eventually too.

    This is going to be perfect for my mum, who is writing a book and also needs a new tablet (she has an iPad Mini 2, she definitely needs a new one, the onscreen keyboard even lags while typing, which I find very annoying when I borrow it). And at this price it is an absolute steal
