I feel like this sort of DIY is how this truck was marketed. Great work.

I agree, great marketing for a truck with limited options lol. I love the Maverick so im not knocking it. I just find it lacking for the price. My internal vehicle value calculator is a bit skewed since the last vehicle I bought was a base model 2014 Focus ST and it was only $19K and has substantially more options than the base model Maverick. I have push button start and keyless entry so I never have to take my keys out of my pocket. I have a capless fuel fill system that I only have to press on the fuel door to open it. And its a manual transmission. I am waiting and hoping for someone to come out with a manual transmission swap but I am pretty sure there are no 2.0 or 2.3 ecoboost vehicles with AWD and manual outside of the Focus RS so would be a ton of money if it was even possible. Now that Im thinking of it, an RS drivetrain and AWD system swap would be really cool.

Looks like that will work quite well. I'm surprised how clean the installation is. Love the chopsticks!! Cheers!!

Couple of suggestions. Cut the hole first and up the smaller port for the phone through the hole. Also use heat shrink tubing vs tape. Also with the wiggling overtime it will come loose. For me the better option is getting a wireless adapter

I've been using Magnetic Charging and Data Cables for my devices for the last few years and like the way they simply attache to all my portable devices. There are may suppliers but I use the NetDot Gen10 Magnetic Charging Cables that include fast charging and data transfer. (Around $15 to$20 on Amazon for a multi-pack) The package comes three different magnetic tips for USB-c, Lightning (iPhone) and Micro USB. These options work in most of the USB devices I have. The nice thing is the magnetic tip "snaps" to the cord in either orientation and holds on pretty well. I made a small slice in the orange Maverick console insert to pass the cable through and once you get it lined up it works pretty well. The slot in the orange Maverick tray has a lot of play so I may try to make or find a holder that fits my iPhone 10 and keeps it from rocking around in the tray.

Great idea! Hope the tape doesn't melt and get gooey and loose when the cabin sits in the sun.

Great hack, thanks! You might heat shrink your electrical tape as the black tape gets funky after a while and it might secure it a little bit.

USB - C port works fine, I bought a short USB C to C cable with right angle and connectors to streamline my Android hook up. If a 3D printing wizard would develop a mount that would glue into place that would be cool

Good idea! I'd have tried zip ties instead of electrical tape, though. That tape gets gooey.

I did that same thing but I ended up removing it because I saw myself grabbing the phone a lot to do "things" and I didn't wanted to disconnect it every time I had to grab the phone.

time to get a 3D printer, or find someone that does and is proficient in creating with it. This would be relatively easy for them and could make some decent $$. Make one for lightening and one for USB Type C, and sell the insert and cable for both applications.

  • @uni4rm

That is really really low budget hack. If you were willing to spend about 20 bucks, you could just get an upright lightning dock and mount that on the bottom of the holder. Apple stopped making them, so there are a bunch of third party ones, including using USB-C. Everyone is making wireless Qi docks now, so they should be pretty cheap to find.

    • @GearGadgetExperiments
      @GearGadgetExperiments  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I actually bought a 3rd party dock but CarPlay would not recognize the phone. After that I came up with the super low budget solution

But first you would need to buy a Mavarick which is not possible today, unless you buy a used one at double the price.

Save the chopsticks for noodles, and just go wireless. That's how I set up my Maverick with Android Auto.

That was the purpose of the video. Wireless in the Maverick is VERY buggy. He wanted a hardwire to avoid those issues.

  • @Rockinthehill

Or you could just buy a car with wireless charging lol
