    Bro, I bought an xbox 360 slim on marketplace and it was having this exact problem, sent the motherboard with my father-in-law to his work because he has all the equipment and knowhow with this kind of thing. Just got the motherboard back this morning, reassembled the 360 and now it works like a charm! fantastic video!

    Holy shit this actually worked. I picked up a 360 Slim today at a garage sale and it was doing exactly what this was doing. Crazy fan and the red light. My soldering sucks and this is very difficult without a scope, but I managed to jump them all and it works perfect. I was skeptical so I couldn’t believe it. Thanks for the vid!!

    Hey super job on this video, couldn't have saved my 360 Slim from the dead without your help. Hint to anyone else working through this issue: check all of the SMD resistors around the CPU for high resistance. I jumped R4D3-D8 as you did, but also had to jump R4D1 (closer to the CPU) due to high resistance failure.

    Great video, thank you! I just picked up an Xbox 360 slim at a garage sale for $25. It was super dusty and missing happy the power cord but I figured it was a steal anyways. Got it home and I had the RDOD- had no idea what to do. Turns out I had 0011 and 0013 error codes. So I replaced the resistors with solder and added new thermal paste to the heat sink and it powers on! We’ll see how long it lasts but as of I’m glad it works.

    I am trying to fix my Grandson's XBOX 360 S but the motherboard on your video doesn't look like mine and the resistors are not present. I know nothing about the XBOX but ok with electronics. My fault is that the green led lights for a few seconds then turns to a permanent red (not flashing) and there is no video output but the fan turns. Prior to this the screen would freeze whilst playing games. Have you any suggestions on how to repair it apart from cleaning and re-greasing the heatsink? Thanks.

  • @amauriherrera6022
    @amauriherrera6022 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    My only 2 cents would be that if you are already that deep inside the 360 go ahead and remove heatsink, clean it, clean old thermal paste and apply fresh thermal paste and clean fans.
    The matte S model is peak of 360 manufacturing. The Chrome series is less robust and its board is inferior to the S model.
    The original models along with the Elite were just plain bad.
    The S model only needs this periodic maintenance every so 10~ years
    Of course, if Microsoft didn't go greedy and made a legacy system on PC we wouldn't have this conundrum 🤷‍♂️

  • @caktalfraktal
    @caktalfraktal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This worked for me! I did a terrible job and it still worked. I just used solder blobs instead of tiny wires. infact I just put 3 blobs of solder because my Iron wasn't small enough to do 6 tiny solder blobs. So, like R4D8 and R4D7 both share the same blob of solder; same with R4D6 and R4D5; and so forth. It seems to still work. I burned the board with the iron so its possible the connections are just open and not even touching the solder blobs too. It was just a last ditch effort before throwing it away; and it worked. I think it's thermal regulation is gone now; so intensive games might freeze

    Why didn't you just replace the resistors after you shorted out the pads and confirmed it working? I would have liked to see the values of the SMD resistors in case this shows up on the video circuit. I think I can apply this to see if the resistors are causing my hdmi switch to not work with my 360.

    Just got my xbox 360 star wars edition ( R2-D2 ) in the mail today. Seller stated that it had the red ring of death. I decided to take a chance on it and when I tested it it automatically had the cooling fan spin at high rpm and only the center light flash red then the console would shutdown after a few seconds. I did a ohms test and found 2 out 6 resistors were bad. I tried your method of removing the 6 resistors and bypassing them and now the console works perfectly! THANK YOU!
    To all the people who commented on what gauge of wire that was used... You don't need to use wire to make a bridge. You can just run some solder across and that's your bridge. Take your time it's very fine solder work that's required.

    I've never soldered anything in my life, but was having the exact same issue with the console reporting a false overheat. First I tried just reheating the solder at the ends of the existing resistors. When I powered the console on, the fan speed didn't ramp up to max immediately anymore, but now it doesn't speed up past the stock idle speed... which leads to freezing after roughly ten minutes of gameplay. Any ideas? Does the fix demonstrated in this video retain the 360's ability to control fan speed, based on demand? Thanks in advance and great video!

      Not all red rings mean its overheating or thinks its overheating. If you own a normal xbox 360 (not a slim) Then 1 part of the ring means 1 component failed. 2 means its overheating. 3 (The one most people will get) means more than 1 component failed. 4 lights means the av output is disconnected or something is really wrong with the xbox.

    Ok the first thing you need to do with a Xbox360 that has the "Red ring of death" is check the power cable on the adapter there will be a light when the system is on the light should be green if it's red or orange the means there's something wrong with the cable ... Now it could be the system and the power cord but I would start by replacing the power cord before you decide to take the entire thing apart

      Could be the thermal paste under your heat sink, you would have to remove the x-clamp and reapply thermal paste. That or the GPU could be busted, and you can try reflowing with an air gun or something. I have the same problems as you and I haven't been able to find a solution yet :(

      I'm having the same problem. Opened it up to check those resistors he shows, but it seems I have a different model because they are not the same on my board. Gonna do some experimenting tomorrow to see if the resistors it does have are the problem.
