    So would you recommend staying in your home country to get work experience in your field for about a year and then apply for jobs so you can have an easier time being sponsored for a visa?
    I also heard people say that it would be a good idea to move to Korea first and maybe teach and then find another job as it is easier to get hired if you’re already in the country. Thoughts ?
    Very helpful video btw!

      I left a few months into my second year with the school. End to end it was about two and half weeks from when I started searching to when I got the offer. But, because I had to give notice at the school I didn't start my current job until nearly 3 months later. Switching my visa was more tedious than it was difficult. I was lucky to have my new employer's lawyer to help me with lots of it 😅

      I am so happy to hear you found the video helpful! It's definitely possible to get a job as a beginner here, but you'll likely need to be relatively fluent in Korean or be able to provide another valuable offering like insights into a specific foreign market. Before reconsidering, just try applying to jobs! You never know what you'll find. I would also recommend you use any of the job hunting services available at SNU - I am sure that will help a lot too!

    Hi Camille thanks for the awesome vid! I had a question tho, I’m a native korean but from overseas and I really want to go back to korea. @CamilleBlais  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! If you're comfortable and confident starting in a lower position and you're willing to learn on your feet, I don't see why you would be able to transition to a job in communications here. As in any country, on-the-job experience is really important. I'd do your best to add some communications experience to your resume and then start pitching yourself for job openings. See what bites you can get! I hope that helps ✨Good luck!

    Hello. I loved your video. I learnt you did your English teaching job during your first year. And you switched to a non teaching PR job in Korea itself within a year or a year. Doesn't your contract terminates after you don't renew in e2 only? And you need to leave the country after it since you no longer teacher.? How to renew visa after the teaching contract to other job and is it easy to do so? Thanks. :)

    • @CamilleBlais
      @CamilleBlais  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am so glad you enjoyed the video! Yes - in my case, I terminated my contract which terminated by E2 as opposed to the other way around. When you leave a teaching position, your employer will send a letter to immigration to terminate their sponsorship of your E2 visa. You don't need to do a visa run (leave the country) to transfer visas. Whether you are switching from an E2 to an E7 or an E6 to a D10 and so on. As long as you have someone in your home country who can gather any relevant documents you might be missing, you don't actually have to leave. For example - I needed a certified history of employment, so I sent my brother to my old office in Canada to get a signature for me. Without him it would have been more difficult to secure to ink signed document but still, not impossible!
      I hope that helps 🤗

    • @CamilleBlais
      @CamilleBlais  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't know D-2 visas very well as I never studied in Korea. My understanding is thought that part time work is possible if your school approves it and it matches your area of study. For example, if you were studying Fine Art you could work part time at an art gallery - kind of like a paid internship system I think.

    • @CamilleBlais
      @CamilleBlais  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am so happy to hear you enjoyed my video and found it helpful! When you have a master's degree you can qualify for an E7 Visa pretty easily! I am not super familiar with the computer sciences industry in Korea, so it might be helpful to start research jobs before you finish you Master's to make sure there are some open roles out there. But in terms of your visa, once you find sponsorship it should be pretty smooth sailing!

  • @xtessalynn
    @xtessalynn ปีที่แล้ว

    You mentioned that experience should make up for a language gap -- do you think that vice versa, a higher Korean proficiency as a foreigner can aide in an experience gap? My current work experience is not aligned with my target career field aka my college major, but I would prefer to do it in Korea (context: was an Arts/Music Management major, ended up working as a legal assistant. I would love to work in an entertainment company in Korea). I don't have an updated measure of my Korean proficiency anymore, but I've been learning (and regularly using) it for over 6 years.

    • @CamilleBlais
      @CamilleBlais  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it definitely does go both ways, but there might be some hurdles when it comes to sponsored visas. They are pretty strict about your major matching your work experience and your target role in Korea. For example, I studied Fashion Communications, but the program is a B.Design. When I was applying for my visa to work as an Editor, they pushed back because they said I needed to be in the visual arts based on my degree. I had to supply extra documents like a transcript and letter from my uni to explain what I really learned lol.

    I am in Korea right now on a Working Holiday visa and I already work for my own company (french) here with Korean partners, so I have some experience already. However, I would like to find a part-time job as I'm allowed to work only 25h per week with my visa and maybe a full-time job to be sponsored and be able to stay longer in Korea. • @CamilleBlais
      @CamilleBlais  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for a great comment, Anouch! Because I don't speak Korean, I found the best way to filter was to search using English terms. So for my line of work I used to search "editor," "copywriter," "social media manager," and "content writer." Then I would open a million tabs (lol) and quickly review each listing, deleting any that did not clearly list Korean as a preference (as opposed to an requirement, or not at all). That usually narrows the list down quite a bit. 😅

      @CamilleBlais  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Welcome back~ Since the job market is really competitive these days, I would definitely recommend being in the country when applying for jobs as it makes the process easier on the company and demonstrates that you have some experience/comfort living in Korea. In regards to teaching, I do think it helped a little bit (not massively) because it also demonstrated that I was familiar with the Korean work environment which is unique.

    Hi! Thank you for this informative video 💖
    I’m currently 23 yrs old without a degree, but I’m doing some certificates on Web Development and the Google UX Design Professional Certificate. If I know Korean/English + build a good portfolio and have at least 1-2 yrs of xp, do you think I might get a opportunity there? I’ve noticed that most tech/design jobs say for “Degree not relevant” or “bachelor or similar (aka experience)” so I thought I might have a chance but IDK ㅠㅠ.
    I’ve also heard about a new Digital Nomad visa but haven’t found any info about that, and not sure if I can turn that visa into a more permanent one later on (unless I marry lol)
    If having an Associates or Bachelor is reallyyy necessary, I might have to do it but I’m 23…going to college in 2024, graduate in 2028, work at least 1 yr in my country… when I go to Korea is already 2029/2030 and I’ll be 30 which is the limit age of H1 visa.
    I appreciate your help or anyone else who also knows about this ☺

    • @CamilleBlais
      @CamilleBlais  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey! I definitely think the Digital Nomad Visa could be an option (whenever it arrives lol) alternatively it would also be possible to qualify for an E7 without a degree but you need 5 years of work experience in the field you wish to work in in Korea - a bachelor's degree just fast-tracks you a bit but you still need 2-3 years of experience as well. The H1 does not have a degree requirement but I believe there are limits on the amount of hours you can work (not 100% sure on this) so you would need some savings. Hope this helps!

      Interesting question! My first gut reaction is no more or no less than in the western world. But, I think to get a real answer you would have to speak to a Korean person as there maybe some nuance to it seeing as age and respect are uniquely and intimately connected in Korean culture. I will say, work experience is a huge plus. It makes it so much easier to prove your qualifications for the visa.

    Hey is it hard to find a job who can sponsor you a E7 visa

    • @CamilleBlais
      @CamilleBlais  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the type of job you are looking for! Companies who are looking to sponsor E7 visas will likely have business needs outside of Korea. So, in my opinion, careers in communications or tourism are likely to have more interest in sponsoring this type of visa to gain foreign expertise than say a job in healthcare or law. I hope that helps! 🤗
