I'm just starting out with a Sony A7 III with 24-70 mm F4 and a Rode VideoMic Pro.
It's tempting to splurge, but next step is first of all a tripod. And possibly an external monitor with the needed grip, so a smallrig plus some kind of arm is a likely purchase too.
To keep spending in check, what would you advise next, a gimbal or a small, sturdy tripod like you show in this video? And which one?
I'll mostly be shooting as a one-man content creator; vlog-style, interviews, gadget reviews and perhaps an event now and then.

Tuff call, but I would probably go with a tripod first. If you are on a super tight budget then I would get a cheaper tripod then the one I have for sure. Mine is really high quality, which is nice, but a cheaper one will do the job just fine also... I really think a gimbal makes for such smooth footage it is a must have item, however, a lot of the best vloggers don't use gimbals, so its really personal preference. Do you like shaky cam footage or not? I have the Ronin RSC 2 gimbal (bhpho.to/3No1uQh), and although a lot of the app features don't work with your Sony A7 III or my A7C, the gimbal itself performs awesome! I just hit record on the camera and use the gimbal as a tool without any cables or apps these days...

Thanks for the video Jay. I picked up the Black Mamba cage for the GH6 myself - love it except for removing the strap ring as you mentioned and not thrilled about the access to the left dial. From a protection & versatilty standpoint, it works incredibly well though.

Hey Pete and thank you for the comments! Yeah, that one dial is a bit harder to turn for sure, but it's worth the protection I think. Thanks again and all the best, Jay

Not a single item of those needed for photography.

Well, almost every item can be used for both photography and video depending on your needs. The Monitor can be used for much easier manually focusing for example, lights can be used to accent stuff, Color Checker can be used to calibrate white balance and colors, Cage protects the camera, ND filter slows down shutter speed for both photography and video. etc..... All the best, Jay
