How terribly sad.. the fact that her parents waited 6 weeks to report her missing- simply because of pride, is awful... I've no doubt she didn't run away, she had no money, no clothes etc... probably abducted- possibly by a sex pervert, or for ransom money- but was killed... Did her family even scour the park? Just so sad.. 😮😢

She had a week long fling at a motel, which in those days was off the charts. Explains the family's hesitancy, as this could have been the case again. The private detective they hired waited until after the parents' death to say he believed she had committed suicide.

When this video started and they said she was going to walk through Central Park, I thought, "Chandra Levy." She was the intern attacked and killed in a Washington Park while jogging in 2001. I think Dorothy was probably attacked in Central Park and killed like Chandra was so many years later. I don't think Dorothy would have stopped off for a quicky termination while shopping and I don't think she would have gone shopping if her goal that day was to kill herself.

This was a very intriguing case of a wealthy young woman who mysteriously vanished and yet her family didn't report her disappearance until several weeks later. If it wasn't unusual for Dorothy to not contact her family if she was going to be late arriving at the family home, then why did they wait so late to finally contact the police? I enjoyed hearing your guest host Briefcase Case narrate this video. Great case wish it would have been solved. Have a fantastic new year 2024!

An unmarried ‘spinster’ (25 was ‘old’ back in the day for that social class)that suddenly fell off the face of the earth, was very suspicious. It would give room for gossip and scandal, destroying every chance she had on a ‘good’ marriage if she later resurfaced. And not only her chances, that of her sisters too. This was in the age where even the less wealthy would keep a married couple separated for two or three months after the wedding out of fear for a premature birth (and thus rumors of already pregnant when married). It would ruin all the girls in the family.

So funny how back in the day you could be the daughter of a wealthy gilded age high society person and couldn't get published in magazines or publishing houses for your work. That would never happen now. Nepo babies just need to put their name down and have their father make a few phone calls and they'd be published in a second today.

I find it unbelievably shocking that her mother and father waited fot a month and a half before reporrting her missing. I think she possibly met someone in Central Park, went somewhere with him, perhaps thinking she was going to view an apartment, but he had brought her to some private room, S.A.d and murdered her. The reason I think that is because she had dressed very carefully as if for an interview and did not let her mother accompany her. She didn't commit suicide, suicides cannot hide their own bodies. The fact that her parents waited 6 weeks before reporting her gave her attacker a full six weeks to dispose of her body. Sad case.

Why would anybody believe that she left because she felt like a failure or any of that crap. For one thing she had a party coming up. I don't assume that she would miss her own party. I also don't believe she would break her mother's heart and her siblings and her dad she wouldn't break all those people's hearts just because she wanted to get to the other side of the ocean! I believe that either the guy she spoke to molested her, or she went back home through the park and somebody grabbed her unawares and ravaged her before killing her because I simply cannot agree with anything that would have her still living 50 years later or even 5 years later without ever contacting her family. She wouldn't just run off and never contact her family again. Oh yeah and I forgot to mention she was too young to think of herself as a failure yet, she had years before she would be old enough to even think that.

If it had been a young male literally NOBODY would have cared nearly as much. And we certainly wouldn’t have a video about it 100 years later because the sensationalistic articles about a beautiful young missing woman would have never been written and the victim’s name would have been lost to time. I’m a feminist but the idea of a young man getting more attention and care than this is silly

What a pleasant surprise to hear BC's voice...I had to double check!! I think Dorothy had this all planned out...from meeting the friend and passing the note to save on postage (2 cents) and stating her route home through Central Park. Seems a bit to convenient. My first thought is she wanted to pursue an alternative lifestyle and chose to disappear for love. Second opinion, her family was aware of her attraction to women, abducted her and had one of those medical procedures done to her. It did not go as expected...because they never do and she spent the rest of her life in a sanatorium. Occasionally they paid someone to report a sighting. IMHO. Happy New Year to BC and FL !!

Bravo, what a fantastic channel! A possible topic given the nuclear topics of today's global governments might be the international players. I did Bob Costello's hair in his 90's, her was lovely and quite emotional about helping to invent and test the 1st atomic weapons with Oppenheimer. His wife was adorable with stories of their living conditions from base to base and makeshift tin shed towns. Where her hair froze to the wall one night in Colorado. The Downwinders in the US, the story of the Kodak companies film being developed in the box by corn husk after the nuclear weapons testing thousands of miles away. Many interesting stories. The St Louis Baby Tooth Study and the mothers who began the campaign. The Baby Tooth Study 2.0 happening now with Joe Mangano, obe of the original scientists . Our community has many fascinating stories people have forgotten.

The man who produces the brief case videos should be commended. He presents the facts without sensationalism or reading too much into them. I can understand why the Arnold family acted the way they did after Dorothy’s disappearance, they hoped to locate her themselves and avoid embarrassment not only to themselves but also to Dorothy. I personally think suicide was the likely scenario, this young woman was deeply disappointed over her failure to succeed in her writing career

A suicide leaves a body, so I think it more likely that she ran away

Here i was thinking this was a bad day. Quite a surprise to see another Forgotten Lives Brief Case collaboration. This has really made my day. Your narration styles complement each other so well. It would be cool if you created a channel together. I will be looking for Forgotten Lives on your channel in the near future i hope. Thank you both!

      @satsumamoon oooh, it's not a girls' school, it's a women's college. I'd say it "brin MAHR." th-cam.com/video/63evjpnuOnE/w-d-xo.html&t
The whole town it's in is called Bryn
Mawr, and there are many, many other Welsh named places nearby include Bala Cynwyd, Haverford, etc, They were "settled" and named this by immigrant Welsh Quakers. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_Tract
Several of the BMC dormitories are named with Welsh names too: Denbigh, Merion, Radnor, and Pembroke.

Is that the commonly accepted way to pronounce it there or does everyone have a different version and no one minds or corrects each other because no one can say for sure hiw its supposed to be pronounced? @@alisgray . I added a comment to the link you gave me , you might like to know how we Welsh say it so you can go and annoy everyone : D

take into consideration that the man who mentioned carrying a body and then take back his words, new what he was saying. its a confession of guilt and when released, he turned it around so the press will not be on his shoulders. or, why would he say a thing like that!

There is another option. She could have saved her own money over time and left. She could have made friends with someone she wanted to spend her life with who believed in her writing. She could have taken a pen-name. She could have taken another name and moved to Europe. We just don't know.
