Actually i played with Lin. She is awesome. She made two birdies in a row and is a baus. Definitely should be a single figure handicapper soon from the White tees
My thoughts if I may. 1. Excellent golf swing, short game and bunkers are pretty good. 2. If she doesn't like the 5 iron then change it for something she does like, maybe another hybrid. 3. I hope she chooses and sticks to 1 shot shape off the tee. It will help to be able to walk onto any tee and consistantly aim for either the left or right side 150 yard marker. Groove one shape. You can switch to playing both shapes when you get to 8 handicap. 4. Know your average distance with each club and be realistic about that distance. 5. Absolutely superb golf. Remeber to enjoy the journey down to single figures and don't make it a chore and a bore like I did.
@@GenevieveLingGolf She has a great future playing this game and the enjoyment of going low. Every time you break a score and make another milestone is an incredible feeling. I spent much of my time grinding it out on the practice ground and was so driven I missed a lot of the enjoyment of progress.
I love watching jen. I learn alot from her and the golf sidekick. She does talk fast. And is hard to follow. So i am glad she puts commentary up on the screen.
Genevieve Ling that is so true. Last weekend my friend finally spoke up on number nine to let me know what he was seeing in my backswing. From hole ten to fifteen only one over with three birdie looks. Too bad we don’t have video feedback after each swing. 😅
I hope you keep playing with her and marking her progress...kinda like Golf Sidekick has done with J-Mac. I know you're a touring pro and you may not have time for that, but that would be cool to see. Love the content! Please keep it coming!
Wow, it is so nice to have a round of golf guided by Gen...we can improve tremendously & quickly....thank you for showing this round of golf and we want more....thanks.
i have definitely a lot if stuff to improve on technically, but hard to teach an old dog new tricks, and i’m always afraid if over thinking golf. so 2022 i am going to concentrate on « course/game management + putting ». pretty sure i will improve my score and continue to have fun & enjoyment - which is my aim. This was great thanks Gen
I'm struggled to play consistent too. One day I shoot 96 & the other day I shoot 82. My best score is 79 in the tournament. Sometimes I felt like 😕 because I trained 5x a week. I just don't know what to do anymore. I learn so much from u Gen. Really enjoy your videos. Hopefully we can play a round of golf together.
Agreed. This is a fun channel to watch. Genevieve does a great job, and that girl could easily shoot in the 70s. I think women do a better job swinging within themselves, and she just needs some more reps on some shots.
Very good insights ✅ I had a ALPGA tour pro give me little to no help when I paid for a on course lesson 😝 what funny golf ball was she using ? 🤔 I have worked out my favourite balls > my favourite ball I can swing at 80% second favourite at about 70% and third I need to swing 90% 🤗
I love Gen's channel on You Tube. What ball was the student playing? I have just started playing Cobra single length hybrids. I have a 25, 22, 19 degree which are intended as 5, 4, and 3 iron replacements. With their shorter 7 iron length shafts and baffler rails, they are good on side lies and poor lies. In general the trajectory is lower than a full length hybrid and about 10 m shorter carry distance. You have to have the ball centred and hit it like an iron though. The trade off is worth the increased accuracy. Why make learning golf harder than it has to be by using long irons? Oh, the SL hybrids are great for the roll the ball onto the green shot, instead of using a putter!
That first hole is a typical way that 13-15 handicap would play that hole. When I go to the range, I usually hit a small bucket of balls then I spend an hour in the short game area, which is always empty, even if the range is packed. No one practices their short game. Chipping, pitching, bunker shots, flops and putting. That’s the part of your game where you can shave strokes on. Even professionals aren’t going to hit every green in regulation, but when they do miss, they’re able to scramble for pars. Most of my friends are 10-15 handicaps so I see it all the time. Bogey golf with a few pars and birdie here and there followed by a double. It takes us two strokes to get the ball 400 yards and 3-4 strokes to get the ball in the hole from 25 feet. So my advice would be to put some serious work in on honing in your short game.
TheBatugan77 I’m not a great driver of the ball even though I hit it a long way. I’m not a great iron player either except with my wedges, but I’ve been as low as an6 handicap (currently an 8) . What I’m really good at is scrambling. There was a stretch in a round when I had 6 pars in a row while only hitting 1 green in regulation and probably 2 fairways. Then I have friends who are 7 handicaps with the exact opposite game. Great drivers and iron strikers but horrible scramblers. One would putt it out of a bunker if he could.
I'm a 0.6 handicap. Here's some advice for her as well. 1. Practice your putting minimum 15min a day. Get a long ruler from your local hardware store and practice putting along the ruler 2. Chipping, practice chipping to a landing area. You can do this by placing 5 plastic discs in your garden, then practice trying to land on each disc.... NEVER play the same shot twice even if you hit a bad one. 3. When you chip grip all the way down to almost the shaft 4. Get a range finder and know your distances 5. Par all par 5s 6. Get a golf net for hitting balls... Practice key swing drills, 20min a day 7. Take your driver, turn it upside down and grip the shaft just above the head of the driver. Practice making super fast swings this way..... This will increase your clubhead speed. 8. Make sure all your golf grips are fitted properly. I play golf pride tour wraps.... Mid size with 2 rolls of tape. 9. Mark your golf ball with a line. Make sure the line is aiming at the target when putting. Line up the line on your Putter with this line. 10. Learn to aim properly. .. Pick a spot 2 feet in front of you aimed at the target.... Get your feet parallel to the that target line.
I’ll say this with positive intentions: part of the improvement progression is to embrace, not run away from, uncomfortable club selections. But, I have a 5 hybrid for sale lol
Haha! This is true. At the end of the day it's all a mental thing. She can 100% hit the 5 iron if she was comfortable over it. There's nothing wrong with the iron. But sometimes it's nice to get a different club with a different face to "erase" all the bad memories of the 5 iron that she had! 😄
Gen - another nice video and so relatable. I’m sooo close to consistently breaking 80 but can’t do it all the time. I think course management (better decisions) and more putting practice are the key. Thank you for making it look simple. It’s just hitting a ball into a hole right?
Gen lots of great advice and I think Lin will really get there!! For me the 4 iron is the club I am not 100% with but it is not as bad as the 3iron was which I traded for a 3 hybrid!! I think she was driving it excellently!! And that course is really nice you play there quite often too right?
What ball is she currently playing? I think she needs to be playing a Callaway Chome Soft X or Pro V1X. Just to help her have some bite on the geeens. Just found your channel and love it. 😁
I am jealous. I am a 13 handicap and I wish my biggest issue was green reading. My biggest issue is getting off the tee box and giving myself clean looks into the green. It way too many drivers, 3woods, and driving irons slightly off line that leaves me blocked out. Mainly because all 3 of those clubs have a 2 way miss for me. Also, did your friend consider maybe getting a 5 hybrid to replace the 5 iron she doesnt like?
If they are 2 way misses, hit the club that misses one way until you are able to make the misses smaller! Doesn’t matter if you are shorter. If you put yourself in the fairway, chances are the worse score you will get from there (as a 13 hdcp) would be a bogey!
Her second shot, which she supposedly chunked, I thought was pretty good from having the ball below her feet, those are the hard shots, we always practice on the flat then we go play on undulating courses!
#1 60degree she didn't focus on where she wanted to land. Do open club to create more flop if greens are fast. Uphill chip will create loft and fly further. Stay away from driving range and pitch/chip 1-2 hrs a day. Ball slop below feet ball goes to the right (close face some). I went from 22hcp to 13 in 2 years by being able to hit same pitches with 3 different wedges.. Play the course don't let it play you.
Her swing has changed a little bit since I saw her last time... She has raw ability and natural talent to be a lower handicap.. Just some subtle tweaks needed..
I think she’s just used to doing that now. It does help with consistency for some, and doesn’t necessarily cause a loss of distance! Brooke Henderson is a lady golfer that grips down and she definitely hits it long! 😊
@@GenevieveLingGolf Wow, I find that surprising. If she has access to try the new Bridgestone Tour B RXS, I'm sure she will be happy with what that ball has to offer. P.S.... not a Bridgestone rep or worker, I just recently switched to the B XS myself after seeking more spin and a softer feel than I got from the Pro V1.
@Mdmchannel I used to, for many years. At one point I just said screw it, I'm buying a bunch of new ones. I find my confidence is boosted knowing the ball is free from scuffs and scrapes. All balls get marked eventually, so I save them to for the next round, and the first tee gitters.
@@GenevieveLingGolf I found about 500 golf balls in 2020 🤗 tested most brands and models and the Premium balls need at least a 100mph driver swing speed 😋 my driver swing speed is 90mph and mid irons about 80mph > I found that a low compression ball gives me the most consistent results 😊 TP5 and ProV1s etc ...... are not suitable for super slow swing speeds 🤗 I am a single figure player and I prefer putting a 80% swing on my driver and irons and be on the fairway and greens in regulation ✅
Her swing doesn't look all that comfortable or fluid, but she is more consistent than her swing would allude to. With the short chips and pitches she just needs to quite her lower body as it moves around a little too much. I am by no means a pro, but I've overcome this problem before.
She was set up in a closed stance on the 6th tee and piped it straight down the middle because it made her release her hands ! If she wants to get better still using an open stance , she just needs to swing from the inside a little more ,then release her hands so she stops block fading them . She should watch Fred Couples swing , he has an open stance , swings from the inside and releases his hands . I would have her adjust her swing path only . Cheers 🥂

Hi Gen, can i ask how to choose the best ball to use?
you can go for a ball fitting, or honestly, just experiment and see how the ball reacts when you actually play with it! 😊
looks like she has the same pre shot routine as you do haha
Nice shot
Lin seems to hold the club quite far down the grip, is there a reason for that?
gts golf better control probably, you give up distance tho
