Personal comment here: I started playing golf when I was 12 (just turned 69). My parents and I played together for many years, went to tournaments, and talked about golf incessantly. My mother (RIP) loved the game and was a real student of it. She was always trying this and that and kept notes of her latest new thing. She broke 100 only a dozen times but it was always a thrill. I still have a trophy of when she and a partner won a (net) tournament in 1967. My point is this, Gen: she would have loved what you are doing. I do -- for myself and my mother. Thanks for the joy you bring to the game. And you have a great swing and great outlook. After the pandemic, go win a tournament somewhere. Thanks.
Gen... you're a jewel. As such...please don't rely on the power of the hand if you come to NYC USA! Other than cabs, no one will even slow down. We need you!
“Just think about where you want to hit it, not where you don’t want to go” This is the best advice for pre shot management I’ve ever heard!!! I’ve been taught in high performance driving to only look through your line, not at where you don’t want to go and I also teach that if you’re about to crash, only look at where to go to get out of trouble instead of looking at the trouble. I never thought of transferring that thought to golf but I am now. Great vid Gen, thanks!
"The power of the nand." I enjoyed learning about Malaysian culture almost as much as I enjoyed the golf and your wisdom, which is far beyond your years.
I love your intro Genevieve and you’re always honest with your opinions and game. Even for a poor round (for your standard) you still scrambled well and showed that never give up spirit. For fun, I’m gonna try the power of the hand next time too. 🙌💪🐬
Thank you for sharing a round with your thoughts when you were not having your best day. The rest of us learn from how you normally pick a target and avoid thinking don't shoot over there. And we learned how you deal with problem shots and plan each shot. Thank you again, its always so enjoyable and informative watching your videos.
I disagree. The ball didn't go in the hole so it's a bogey. If you disagree with me, tell me what would have happened if Gen had done that on tour. A player tees off on a par 3 and pitches the ball into the cup. It bounces out of the cup and runs into the bunker. Is it a hole in one or is he playing two from the trap? Yeah, you know the answer. Sorry, Gen, it's a bogey. The lesson here is don't putt with the pin in (unless it's a 45 degree angle, breaks from left to right, and the green is 13 on the Stimpmeter.
I just discovered your channel. Im enjoying it. I especially enjoy your expression when u missed one of the shot...hands on the hip...look back at the camera...saying in your head "wtf". LOL...hillarious!
This is a great message for just about everything in life. Using positive words instead of negative to say the same thing. It can just make everything better. For golf though, I’ve never tried it. I will be trying it this weekend.
I know what you mean by the mind not processing the word "don't". Many a time I've told myself "I don't think I'll go golfing today" and the next thing I know I'm punching out from under a willow along the first fairway. Thanks for the video. Be happy. Have fun.
Oh and I have had about 5 putts in the last month that have done that same thing going straight in the heart but fast enough to hit the pin and bounce out...so frustrating especially when they are for birdies
Controlling your mind is definitely key to playing better golf, of course the pro's are better at that the amateurs, another very informative video , good work Gen
Continue the vids, enjoy your presentation of the good bad and ugly. Started watching with break 100 and binge watch after. Be sure to let us know when your on tour to follow along with these TH-cams.
Gen - can you please tell us distance to hazards or layups on some of your shots - it will help us understand your thought process even more. Thanks for doing these videos!
Wow, this made sense when I watched it but using it yesterday when I played I really think it helped massively focusing on the target with positive thoughts. Thanks for this video!!!
So are you suggesting that in your mind it’s better to focus on making a good swing to where you want to go and ignore or block out the negative area’s. great videos by the way.
Gen: New Subscriber! Am a fan of your channel (and collabs with Matt, the Playa-in-Chief!). Your course management videos = a differentiator (Thanks for sharing the less-than-perfect shots, rather than editing them out... we learn more from your sharing of imperfect shots & how to grind out from the rough/bunker/etc)... 👍😬 Good luck with your Pro journey & growing your TH-cam channel! p/s: Yes, 👍thumbs-up for much-improved Audio Quality... How did you get the improvement, i.e. is this from external mic (with fluffy wind-proofing?) connected to iphone/DSLR? 🗣️🤷♂️🤔
I recorded on an external device while watching the video on the editor then exported the audio to the editor! Haha a couple extra steps but I'm happy everyone has appreciated the audio on this! 😄🙏🏻
you also have the power of your fingers - i notice when you chip or putt and the ball is running faster than you want - you tend to snap your fingers in rapid fire rate. hahahaha. Great video Gen - very interesting concept re power of positive thinking. Not positive in a "I'll just swing and it will turn out OK" kind of way - but rather "smooth and high fade" kind of way. Will try this out next round.
Great video Gen , you definitely nailed that put right in the middle it bounced back , this is the best example I’ve seen that the flag in definitely affects the putts , I just wanna play golf with you everyday 😊.
the putt at 3:10 - would have been in the back of the cup without the flagstick in, so in a normal situation, you would have taken the pin out, clearly in for par. BTW. the audio is nice and clear =)
I really enjoy your videos. Timely and very helpful. I noticed your driver appears to be a bit long for you and you are far away from the ball on the tee box. Have you ever tried a shorter driver?
Awesome vlog. You should be sponsored by the Malaysian tourist board. Can you do a what’s in the bag session. You hit the ball so smooth would be nice to know what sticks you’re rocking
Gen plays all Ping 410 throughout the bag with Titleist wedges and I think a Scottycameron putter. There is another video on TH-cam where she explains this including one for her wedge fitting. I agree with you on that smooth swing.
Alan Duncan the fitting of wedges was a great video and interesting to compare the Singapore experience with the european process (bob vokey talks about fitting for your tough shot while keeping your good shot). Love the ping set at the top end of the bag
If you normally take the flag out that is a par. I did something very similar 2 weeks ago and I counted it as a par. Unfortunately in a competition at our club it would be counted as a bogie. I just wish we could take the flags out again. I don't like it in as it's a distraction if nothing else. Golf is a little frustrating at the moment.
Yeah but I guess if it keeps us all out on the course and not at home in quarantine then it's well worth it. Technically it should be a par but even for me, I can't count it as a par because I didn't get the satisfaction of seeing it disappear to the bottom of the cup! 😩
@Genevieve Ling I counted mine as a par. It is good to be out on the course but it's a real shame we can't fly. I was coming out to Thailand and Malaysia this November for a month but it will have to wait another year. I was hoping to get some golf with Golf Every Second, Golf SIdekick and Teaski and yourself. Your swing is poetry in motion and was hoping to learn stuff by watching. The computer is not the same as being there.
Even though you weren't at your best today Gen, you weren't wild-wild... at least you could find your ball! 😂 My best round this year I shot 75 off back tees at Doha Golf Club and had 3 penalty shots (2 in water & one unplayable)😂😂😂🙈
Wow how did that putt not go in? Do they have that metal piece at the bottom of the flag exposed? Ran into a course with that set up and unless the ball died in the hole, it would hit that metal part and bounce out
This is going to sound dumb - but i was tensing up just watching the Video because of the hazards, i suppose it was because of your occasional wayward shot. (which is unusual for you) Breath deep and relax, its all about fun, i sometimes use expletives (like FFS) in a funny way to help me relax.
@@MrGaryCampanella She is playing her favourite "punch shot" when she has a distance she is not sure of with a full wedge or 9 iron. It does not always come off Gen seems to go long a lot of the time with it...

You should have gotten par. I thought under the temporary rules, anything that bounces out because of the flag is counted as in? At least that's how I interpret the rules.
How funny that you focused on the hazards today because you spent a round with @golfsidekick showing him how to select a specific target😜🤣 golf is a funny sport!

$4000.
