My late Father "Loved" Matt Monro and we even chose one of his songs "Softly When I leave you" for his Funeral. My Father was always singing his songs, and a waitress once came up to my Father and said "Excuse me Sir, are you Matt Monro" that was my late Father's best compliment, because he was a "Big Fan" of his. I have been playing a cd of Matt's Hits to my severley disabled Mother, who is in a Nursing Home now, and it seems to really sooth her. I Never Tire of listening to his smooth voice. I can see now, why my late Father liked him so much. r.i.p Matt (Sadly Missed)
As an avid Sinatra fan for many years now, I have to admit Matt's adility to hold a note is far better than Sinatra. Pity, I only found Matt last yeat. Look what I've missed.
Am not fan of Matt Monroe but when I saw his live performance and sang Walk away I can't help but cry, the way he delivered the message of the song. Same with if I never sing another song. It's a pity he died early.
One of the greates singers ever intoduced by Bernard Manning in the Wheeltappers and Shunters with the worst sound ? Still, I would have loved to be there to see Matt.
Matt Monro's daughter wrote a bestselling biography of the great man a few years ago and Don Black who wrote so many great songs, was Matts manager for almost all of his career..She said as Blacks career as a songwriter took off he had little time for her father, who being a very loyal man wouldn't leave Black. She was really scathing in her criticism and said Matts loyalty to Don Black really held back his career. Eventually in the last years of his life, Matt and Black parted company and his new, young manager totally revived her fathers career both in England and Las Vegas.....so at least he went out at the top. This program was very popular in it's day and the acts are top class, plus Matt Monro and Bernard manning were close friends for years.
I think you are in another world. Las vegas and the Wheel tappers and shunters don't actually have anything in common except maybe the entry fee ? HA ! In this interview, his daughter explains it all, and that his return to the UK was his demise as a star, and how he ended up in a working mens club in the north of England ! th-cam.com/video/Lsh8t15r1S8/w-d-xo.html Please get things into perspective and stop spreading rumours ! Thanks !
technically he probably had the greatest voice from the UK, you can tell class, when you do the Wheeltappers, they will tell you if they dont like you, the applause says it all here, he could adapt to any place, no frills just the voice, thats all Matt needed, i saw a guy who worked with Bernard Manning a few times his name was Adrian Paris, another great voice, Bernard wrote a piece saying, he was like Matt Monro.
That's Bernard Manning acting as compere, and he himself began in show business as a singer with a dance band but later switched to standup comedy. The chairman who interrupts is Colin Crompton, another standup, who takes the role of a bossy halfwit in a working man's club. Matt Monro never had his own TV show, so his TV career consisted of short appearances on variety shows such as this. He began his working life as a bus driver and sang in many real-life clubs, but I think he's too classy and just too good for this small venue.
Ok so one of the best voices in the history of human kind...in one of the the crumbiest night clubs (holiday camps) in England...introduced by Bernard Manning (his friend)...a crap sound system and totally under selling himself as a performer...Jesus...that is so British....
@@manchestertart5614 This is like watching Frank Sinatra singing karaoke to some welfare workers in down town New York.... he gets $50 for his evening's work and has to get changed in the toilets. But the working class Brits are very good at selling themselves short....it is in our DNA, bred into us from an early age. Unless you have a private education of course, in which case you think the sun shines out of your anus.
I think what adds to Matt's charm and talent, he seems to have been a very genuine caring person as well, and apparently a great sense of humour ❤❤❤
Love this. Another Britain. A better Britain. And nobody like Matt Monroe.
My father's favourite in the 80s. Our home was always serenaded by his songs. His songs captured us all at home.
My favourite singer n Matt Monro might be gone but his music will never die!😀

Beautiful
Superb. True class this is. What a voice.
I swear to god this man had 3 lungs, never seems to take a breath, fantastic voice, sadly missed
Considering his lifestyle it’s even more remarkable..
It was an extra liver he needed, rather than a lung.
Sad.
As an avid Sinatra fan for many years now, I have to admit Matt's adility to hold a note is far better than Sinatra. Pity, I only found Matt last yeat. Look what I've missed.

What a lucky audience. Matt Monroe ! Incredible but still as good as if he was the Palladium.
A great entertainer😊
Greatest
Poor Matt lovely voice but life cut short due alcoholism. So sad
Am not fan of Matt Monroe but when I saw his live performance and sang Walk away I can't help but cry, the way he delivered the message of the song. Same with if I never sing another song. It's a pity he died early.
This man voice is magical! McCartneys favorite singer, and he's not wrong.
Brilliant, i believe he was Sinatras favourite singer
One of the greates singers ever intoduced by Bernard Manning in the Wheeltappers and Shunters with the worst sound ? Still, I would have loved to be there to see Matt.
Thanks again Theo! Great to see the rest of Matt at his best!
A voice like velvet.god bless him.

And what a brilliant comedian BM was.
What a performance. I love this clip.
Top man
From Las Vegas to Bernard Manning's club. A meteoric rise.
Also his wonderful love story with Micky, that was the glue between them, and I think it also completed him, in his performance ❤❤
Matt wonderful as usual
I'm pretty sure he was singing to his mum there
as the same lady and man were in his other live performances
Любимый певец.
Хорошо что есть возможность не только послушать песни а его исполнении, но и увидеть.

Preklonjajus
Smoked like a chimney, but smoked the audience when he got on stage ,best singer ever👍😎
Wish his mic was louder

Amazing Jolson impersonation. I wish there were still shows and music like this today. Now we get a load of crap acts on BGT and X Factor.
Sem comentários Matt Monro não precisa fazer comentários é apenas ouvir .
Good god :( what in earth was a fantastic singer like matt doing in that utter crap of show
That's Bernard Manning acting as compere, and he himself began in show business as a singer with a dance band but later switched to standup comedy. Frank Sinatra rated him as best singer ever...
Did he? Even he is good too.
🎉🎉🎉
Nice rarity, wasted on that audience, but a good performance.
Voice of gold superior to Como Crosby , Sinatra
I love Sinatra, but listen to MATT more !! the most natural effortless singer !! "check out" STEVE LAWRENCE Very Similar!!
The Bar Mitzvah had great entertainment.
This "swing" music is not for me.
But given a nice ballad, there was none finer.
😂😂😂

Should have had a better management team

A great talent wasted on pigswill.
This is not a working mans club. It's recorded in a purpose built studio. They had the top stars of the day perform here.
