Chris - FYI why you didn't hear the "clickedy clack" and the ride is so smooth: This is because most track with any significant traffic is now continuously welded rail. Instead of the rail being an insane number of 39 foot plugs that are all bolted together, rail comes from the shop in 1482 foot strings and these strings are then welded together. This allows for greater train speed due to the smoother ride.

0:13 Just an FYI. For the hotel you were at a Lyft over to Anaheim ARTIC Station for the Metrolink would have been a shorter and cheaper ride than Fullerton.
Also if you ride Metrolink instead of Amtrak the Physical ticket can transfer on to the Red Line for free once you hit Union and the ticket itself is cheaper than Amtrak.
I ride public transit a lot and even take the redline to work myself :)

Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner also stops in Anaheim near Angels Stadium, so if you're at Disneyland or staying near the park there's a bus that can take you across Katella to the RTIC (Anaheim regional Transit Intermodal Center).
With the Surfliner: if you are disabled, the lower carriage has a large bathroom that can accommodate an electric wheelchair. If you're going up top- a regular coach seat is all about availability. It's first-come-first-served. But, the Business Class has a reserved seat. (It doesn't have a seat number, but your seat is guaranteed).
The subway card is $2.00 and the fare to ride it $1.75. So, when you buy your card for the first time with a one-trip fare it's $3.75.
Walking up the hill to Universal is kinda brutal if you're not ready for it. Take the shuttle and walk back down.

You can also get a virtual TAP card through the app. My Mom and I rode the train from the Chatsworth Station to the Anaheim station and back for a day at the Disney parks. We got off at the Anaheim station, went across to the ART Center and caught the appropriate shuttle to Disneyland. It dropped us off right up front by the stroller rental.

Be careful riding the Metro Red Line (subway) at night. Be sure you head the right direction! And don''t accidently board the Purple Line, which share a few stations. There tend to be a lot of transients in the subway stations and on the subway trains. Last time I rode, one transient had smashed a bottle on a fellow transients head. Blood and a mess all over the platform. Luckily two police officers arrived to deal with the mess. Haven't been on the Red Line since.
Keep your eyes open and Stay safe!!!

Yeah. I grew up in Los Angeles and I am fortunate enough to have never been on any public transit there. LA is simply not a safe place for most people to be riding trains and buses, in my opinion.
In Chicago, Boston, etc I’ve had no issues with subways or buses because it’s much more common for people from all walks of life to use those modes of transit.

We took Amtrak from central California up to Portland Oregon a few years ago to see our daughter graduate from culinary school. I agree the ride was very smooth. They loaded me up in my power wheelchair and it was smooth sailing from there. It was SOOOOO nice not having to worry about traffic and just being able to watch the view. If you haven't tried it, I fully suggest doing so!

Subway go go! Tokyo's metro system is a sight to behold, and I wish we had such an extensive system like that here in the states. You can pretty much go anywhere in the city by train. Super convenient, efficient, and clean!
Thank you for highlighting public transit in one of your episodes. I'm a transit nerd as much as a Disney one, and I always appreciate when the two merge together.

    • @js5072

What's sad is that the usa used to have a better system than Japan's. Our rail system from the 1920s are still unmatched by the rest of the modern world system. The car industry bought all of these transit systems and destroyed them so we had to use cars. In fact, this is the reason LA has so much traffic, it was designed for trains and electric rails! It's sad but we can totally do it again.

You should do a trip from Disneyland to Knott‘s Berry Farm. It’s only a one quick bus ride. MTA’s route 460 gets onto interstate 5, then exits at the 91 Junction. From there it travels about 1.5 miles to Knott’s. Total commute time about 31 minutes.

I live in LA and have debated taking the train down to Disney many times and your video may have convinced me to finally try it! 35 minutes from Fullerton to downtown is great!! Anyone that has taken the 101 to the 5 to Disney knows that it can take upwards of 2 hours on a bad day in traffic.

Yes, it was a LONG day but so fun. It was my first time ever taking Amtrak and Metro. Felt safe the entire time but the Metro can be sketchy so just be vigilant and alert and you should be fine.

Sadly, Subway No-No. Train travel is my favorite! Sometimes, I have to drive or fly, but train is always my first choice. Thanks, Chris!

Subway Go Go! I live in LA and I commute on the Red Line (B Line) everyday, couldn’t ask for a simpler commute (most of the time that is)!

Final stop on train Goleta!!! Where I live!!! We usually train to Anaheim but we might change to Fullerton. Last time Anaheim station left us stranded with no way home due to an unmanned station with no announcement for platform changes!!😭😭Poof they left without us!!

Subway a-go-go! I took the subway in San Francisco. I have also taken the Pacific Surfliner to San Diego for comic con! It was great! It took 3 hours that day but I think it normally takes 2. Freeway would have been worse though.

THANK YOU for posting this! I was gonna do the same thing in Sept for Halloween Horror Nights and came across this video. Uber back at 2am, but catch the rail over there since it'll be rush hour. You rock!

Subway go go! You missed the beautiful lobby of Union Station. They film a lot of movies and TV shows there.

Subway go-go! Got some good memories traveling around Auckland, New Zealand; London, England; and from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Singapore. SUPER HELPFUL video, Chris. Will be filing this away for future reference. Thanks for the work you do!!

Subway Go Go! It’s such a convenient way to travel! I’ve ridden on the subway systems in NYC, Boston, Washington DC, Paris and Rome. I agree that the Metro in DC is super clean! NYC and Paris, not so much 😂

Those trains that were "not your train" were Metrolink. Same tracks, different agency, lower price. I believe they honor Amtrak tickets.

Subway no no. I love the Warriors tie in to the subway. I also think about Crocodile Dundee ending scene as well! Love these “in between” vlogs.
