Very through discussion of the mouthpiece designs! He sounds great on all of them but it just seems to lock in more on that 85. I will admit, I really like his sound on that 93 as well.

Thanks for listening! It was unreal hearing him during the recording session. Such a brilliant and kind soul!

If these mouthpieces will make me sound like James - I'm in! Ok - to my ears, the sound with the 87 definitely is the best. Very consistently centered tones across the range played. Nicely defined articulation. That is the one I would be most curious to try. Thanks for this video.

The 87 and 90 are really similar, but the compact quality of the 87 really seems to help the tone sing! James is quite the player, too! Thanks for watching and the kind words!

    I played on a 13c when I was younger, and moved to a 6 1/2 al.

I really like the more darker sound of the 93 and 95 in the lower register. But for his style and sound the 87 and 90 fit best to him

Any plans for a 27.50 / 108 version (ie something in a Bach 1.25 size)?

While he was here, he mentioned most of his playing was taking place with the 87 and 90. If he mentions more to us in the future, we'll let you know!

The 87 is lighter. How much difference is there in cup size?, Are there throat shenk differences? I've experienced using different shenk sizes to change the color of my tone without changing cup depth or rim diameter. I've also experienced that it's cheaper to change mouthpieces than the horn, not that I wouldn't love to have an array of different bones.

All specs can be found on the Griego website:
      www.griegomouthpieces.com/products/markey.php
Throat and depth remain similar if not identical but the diameter of the rim increases between the 85 at the smallest and 95 at the largest currently.
All Griego mouthpieces are designed to have the same mouthpiece engagement, i.e. distance the shank fits into the receiver. We just released a video with Christan Griego himself on the subject, worth a watch!
