People told me he played faster than light, So I clicked on this video. To me it was very swift and bright, A good, well paced audio. That was when I realized I was on 0.5 speed
For those who said this is played too fast, it is written Presto and in 2/4. The speed at which he was playing was actually just a little bit faster than the speed it should normally be taken. His articulation is perfect and the tone he has in the low register during the second half of the piece is wonderful. Not surprising at all from Sir James Galway.

Just like so many other pupils Galway inspired me to play the flute in the early 70s and I finally studied at music college for seven glorious years. His quality of sound was just staggering but this Bach piece,the tempo is crazy,I suspect even Galway would look back on this and say that tempo is way too fast.But thank you James I have had a career that has lasted thirty odd years and still continues.Long may you continue to inspire people to play the flute.
I've played it with him and this is what he always does. Listen to the allegro of the C major sonata, same crazy tempo even with the slower tempo marking. His Bach is just tasteless.

Music is not catching an express train. However fast you run up and down the vestibule of the train it reaches you only at its schedule time. . That is life .one needs to have a sense of time.😅
At .75 speed you can hear him play it at the speed it normally is played at, so you can see that even when he plays it as fast as he does, it’s perfect. His speed doesn’t affect his playing ability at all.

This is not a piece that sounds so great slower. This pieces excitement is increased by the speed, and that is what is important here. If the speed prevents a nuance you could complain, but he has more expression and nuance at this speed than others can even give us going slower.
Playing it like that is like rushing through a divine meal or a quality bottle of wine - you still get the quality but it's harder to appreciate when it's stuffed down you.
