This song teaches me total surrender to my God. The song made me realize that I have no will of my own except the Lord's and his will is the best for me.

Those old hymns are masterpieces to glorify our God! So sad churches today don't see that way.

The prolific British hymnwriter Frances Ridley Havergal wrote this hymn on February 4, 1874. "i went for a little visit of five days to Areley House," she explained. "There were ten persons in the house, some unconverted and long prayed for, some converted but not rejoicing christian. He gave me the prayer, 'Lord, give me all in this house!' And he just did. Before I left the house, everyone had got a blessing. The last night of my visit I was too happy to sleep, and passed most of the night in praise and renewal of my own consecration, and these little couplets formed themselves and chimed in my heart one after another, till they finished with 'Ever, only ALL for Thee." As Frances wrote the words she capitalized ALL.
Two months earlier, she had made a complete surrender of herself to Christ and experienced 'the blessedness of true consecration." She wrote: "I just yielded myself to Him, and utterly trusted Him to keep me."

Nothing can beat these old tunes, words and rhyme
Churches today have replaced them with a stage and making worship a performance. Very thankful to have a place where these still can be played and heard. So sad church has been so influenced by the world.
The old hymm s are representative of a time when the reality of being a follower of christ really means. Meant. Today's Christianity is a watered down version of the harsh truth.

We can only sing with a whole heart as much as we know, as much as is revealed to us and press in with honesty and longing to be more and more owned and possessed by His wonderful love and mighty Spirit.
An almost impossible hymn to sing with a truly, honest heart. Yet we can sing these words with some degree of truth because of the redeeming grace of God who has saved us.

I was reading this verse and pondering what it meant to be circumcised in heart and it made me think of this song.
Jeremiah 9:25-26 NIV
