- Welcome Back! Today I will be going over STEP by STEP how to update the firmware or "software" on your Harley Davidson Boom! Radio. This is VERY important to keep up with the latest software as "bugs" & "glitches" are constantly being monitored and fixed by Harley Davidson. In this video I will be updating the software on my BOOM GTS on my 2021 Road Glide.

Hate to tell you this, but you CAN use a Mac. That’s all I have and been doing it for several years.
That would be very helpful! Considering all I use Is a Mac. Care to explain what to do differently? I try every year and did so again making the video just to make sure. For whatever reason can never get it to work.
@@MotoHeadKyle (I guess my first reply never went through). I do/did nothing special. I downloaded the Harley file into my download folder, unzipped it, and transferred it to my flash drive. I plugged it into the bike, the same way you did. I will say the only time I have needed a Windows machine is when using the Harley Street Tuner. I run the free version of VMWare that allows me to boot a Windows instance. You can get a $10 (or less) legit license for Win10 on eBay. Hope this helps.

@@MotoHeadKyle Just remember to move the UNZIPPED files to the flash drive and not the zipped file. Done this without thinking and it just doesn't do anything after you push the "No playable content found" message.

I know this is old, but the Harley dealer in Abilene, Texas was going to charge me an hour labor for this. Following your video, it took me about 10 minutes, total. Thank you.

Hey thanks so much. I bought my 2019 Street Glide last Thursday & the sat nav would only plot a "shortest" route. Drove me nuts on a 5hr trip on Saturday night. I just did exactly what you said & it all works as far as i can see. Not took it out on the road, but its plotting routes on fastest ect now & has the latest software upgrade. All thanks to you. Its a good job your the other side of the pond or id be coming round to give you a hug😄. Thanks dude.

You NEED to mention to take it out of the folder. Fought this thing for a few hours before trying it out of the folder only to be pissed off that's all that was holding me up which was not mentioned. Otherwise thanks for the help. Works great
I most certainly did say that at 5:10-5:15! I said “open the folder.. you’ll see the file within the folder” copy THAT to the flash drive.. can’t help you listen to basic instructions.
The maps are way harder to update. I still have not had a map update work on either of my Road Glides 2019 and 2022. I'd love to see the map update video!
Wish I could help ya! I’ve never updated any of my maps because I always use CarPlay or my phone. Any time I relied on the built in GPS it has always let me down lol

The HD subcontractor must be using 3rd graders to write software for the HD Boom GTS upgrade. Ass backwards. $120 upgrade (after discount) for maps only upgrade. In the end, your steps help complete the upgrade. My Recommendations, use a 64GB thumb drive. secondly, start by finding the link to log-in, most likely obtain a new password, find the discount code, download to your thumbdrive from your PC......then follow Kyles instructions

My hero! Did this even though my 2023 already had the new (same as the available download) version because I had no Android Auto function. Boom--fixed it right up. Thanks for posting!
Great video. New sub and just got a bike with the boom 6.5...going to do this now.
On CVO Bikes it's important to use the "Trip Switch" on the left handlebar control to turn the accessory function on. Don't use the ignition lock or right handlebar control thumb switch to turn the bike on. Otherwise the update "Install" will not proceed.

It does work from MAC, but you were right, it needs to be a empty thumb drive thanks for everything brotha!
Late to the party, but I just helped my Dad and uncle update each of their systems. I had to reformat the USBs for them to read on their bikes. Just putting it out there for anyone else that may have the issue.

Just did mine and would note when people are formatting their usb drive make sure to use ntsf, fat 32 will not work with update.

Question: Do you have a video about radio reception? My AM/FM reception was very good until I installed an after market tour pak. So I installed the hidden antenna and the reception is no good. Any ideas?

How is that I saw in your settings you had wireless headset pairing or whatever it said, under the Bluetooth setting. I have the boom GTS and dont have that headset option. Is that if you have the WHIM?

I have a 2019 street glide special, will this upgrade add Sirium to my options?
I also use a iMac and once I downloaded swdl_boombox_GTS-DOM (main file)
I opened the file and swill-boombox-GTS-DOM.iso showed on the next line.
Went out to the bike and followed Kyle's instruction, BTW last file takes a while to load

Does this stop the 3 beeps? I started getting 3 beeps every 5 to 10 seconds from the speakers. My battery was dead for a day and then this happened.

Good video. I am doing my update today. Were yo able to confirm that the POIs were in the update you did or did you have to do another? Have to updated a wireless headset?
I honestly never thoroughly figured that out and haven’t gotten a definite answer. I have a feeling that it is included but cannot confirm. I normally just use Apple CarPlay anyways. But thanks for watching & commenting! Glad to have you here👍🏻
Question: if my stereo has been flashed to be compatible with after market amp, can I (should I) still do this? Or will it set the head unit back to stock, requiring another flash for the amp? Thanks so much
By the way, I used my MAC to update my 2021 CVO Street Glide and it worked 100% fine, plus not only did I updated the CVO Boom system but also was able to update my Navigation to 2023 Maps, so MAC's work perfect with all Harley updates.

I see you have a harbor freight lift I strongly suggest you replace the wheel chock with a Titan or similar one that one is junk

I believe it is slightly different however mostly the same steps. I’ve never done it because I just use apple car play

Yes! The only difference is you’d download the corresponding file for the 6.5 GT radio

I’ve never done them actually!, I’m not sure if you know you have to pay for the updated maps, so I’ve never updated mine for that reason, so I just use apple car play, Since those apps get updated all the time and have live traffic data. Sorry!

Hello great vid.everytime I go to download it says copying 2 things? And do I need an 8gb stick? I am using a 2gb.please advise
Not sure about the 2 things, however according to Harley they say you must have a minimum of an 8gb stick drive for it to work. Hope that helps

Kyle, is there a process out there that I can use to flash my Boom GTS before I install new speakers and amp from Hogtunes? Thanks.
Yes, either you’d have to go to the dealership.. Oops I mean “stealership”😜 or you’d have to buy the cable itself and the Techno Research VIN license to be able to flash it yourself. When I had mine flashed they charged me $35 for a half hour of labor. VS. the cable is around $200 and the 1 VIN license is $70. Or find a local audio shop that has the Techno Research software, hope that helps!

Kyle, I already have a new audio system installed. Its a 6 speaker set up. I checked my software on my 2020 Road Glide Standard and it is outdated. If I install the new software, will it erase my 6 speaker set up back to only 2 speakers?

Owners manual.. but you would most likely have the 6.5 GT unless it was changed

Great channel! I did just what you showed but somehow the Bike (imported to Sweden from the US) says that the software is "corrupted". Tried to re-download & change usb 3 Times but.... When I dowload the .zip file to my desktop I then "extract" it to my usb so it converted to an .iso file. Is that correct? I have a Road Glide Spec 2020 and this handling worked on my old Street Glide.... Any ideas?

Only if you have CarPlay functions now. You would still otherwise need a WHIM, Jumper Plug or a Techno Research Flash.

Glad you asked, I have my radio flashed for my Rockford Fosgate system and for Apple CarPlay and it has NOT effected any of that. Hope that answers your question! Ride safe 🤙🏻
Are your foot controls connected to your lift with the side ramp there? If it is what did you do to make that happen
Yes, so we measured, cut some pipe, painted and welded it as extensions to the lift. We tried several other methods so they could remain removable however it wouldn’t work right. But this seems to work fairly well! Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Yes, you’d just have to select the file for the specific radio that you have
I have 2016 street glide with the factory radio! I have put in the Soundz stage 2 in. I can not play the system through the dock connector. I have the IPhone 14 pro max. Trying to play through the cord, not the Bluetooth. Will this cure it?
It could? I’m not sure. Sounds silly did you try a different phone cord? If not maybe the dock port is messed up

My son and I tried that last night. I will have to get the shop to look at it when I go up there for new tires. I would rather resolve what I have instead of spending 2,000 for the GTS radio!!!!

tried numerous times and cant get boom gts to prompt for update after installing thumb drive????
Without being there to see what went wrong it’s super hard to diagnose. However some things I could recommend would be just confirm your thumb drive is 8gb or larger, and when you unzip the file, open that folder and copy the 2 files inside and transfer those to the thumb drive. Mine acted like it started to download then went black. Now radio will not turn on. Any ideas do I need to take it to Harley
That sucks, I’d start by pulling the fuse for a minute or so and trying again

These updates are only a firmware update as well as the latest dealership locations. The NAV Map is a separate download which you have to pay for. I have never done one of those because I use CarPlay.
Thanks for the comeback, after researching I'm going to do that I think, you just have to connect your phone every time. Harleys works ok but not as dependable as maps.@@MotoHeadKyle

For some reason this fella was mislead. You could always have used Mac for a few years now. The bikes have apple car play stands only to reason Mac would be allowed to hook up to HD
It didn’t work on my Mac at the time because my Mac wasn’t updated to the newest IOS
To do this a Mac is no prob

I followed the procedure and it did not work. I am using a 16gb drive, formatted before I downloaded. I get the window on the bike where it says no files found, but then after hitting OK, it does not start the update procedure.
Other than watching your every move transferring files It’s hard to know what you’re doing wrong. Perhaps it’s not unzipping or the wrong folder is being transferred.

@@MotoHeadKyle the only file i see on the jump drive is swdl_boombox_GTS_DOM . I would think that is the correct file.
