My Japanese wife came to America to work and possibly to find a husband. She was late 30s and wanted to be married. I was divorced and 60. I was overjoyed that age was not an issue for her. She did not want children and wanted a man that was well off enough to finance her moving to the states. It was a win-win situation because we were very compatible and really had fun together. Fortunately, I’m in good health and can match her energy quite well. We have been married 14 happy years🤗

Japan's age of consent is a bit more complicated. In Japan, in addition to the law, each prefecture has its own ordinance which is called "青少年保護育成条例". According to that ordinance, the age of consent in Japan is set at 18 years old. The only place this ordinance doesn't apply is on uninhabited islands. Therefore, although the age of consent has been raised to 16 by law, it is illegal to have relations with a person under 18 in Japan anyway, so it does not really matter. The Western media often reports news about the age of consent in Japan, but most of them are just clickbait.
That’s very interesting, I wasn’t at all aware of that. I’ve been to Japan many times, but had a reason to ask the Japanese I know about it.. Underaged forced sex probably isn’t much of a problem on uninhabited islands, so is there some other function the national age limit serves? Perhaps there’s a difference in the severity of punishment? I surprised to learn about this, but then again not surprised since as you pointed out, the news media just wants clickbait. Thanks for sharing,
@@DaveEtchells I think it's just harder (takes longer time) to pass national laws, so likely the national law will be passed in the future. Speaking of which, in south korea the age of consent was 13 too before 2020 and it's now 20.

Most Japanese girls don't really date 40-60s older men. They most likely just slept with them just for money. You rarely see this kind of couple on the street because they all met in the hotel or the mistress's home. I have a few friends did the same thing, but they are all claimed single. No one will honestly tell you their shady side in the interview under the sun.😅
not true...Japanese women date older men all the time...Many of these men are married and these girls date them, like are their girlfriends. You're right they won't say it in interviews but I've seen a few situations where they'll date for yeaaaaaaaars as the side girl. It's not just about money. Older guys are more confident because they have success and they're prob managers or something. So they have a sense of power, so it's easier to approach/date women without fear of rejection. Someone I know was dating this guy since she was 19, she's 36 and the guy's 60. She got pregnant and he left his family and married her.
I'm now casually seeing a Japanese coworker who's 10 years younger and she doesn't mind the difference. I look more like her age though. I think the interview answers tend to be in the socially desired range, especially in the one night stand video. Another Japanse girl had a one night stand with me after breaking up with her bf. She asked me not to tell our mutual friend (my Japanese neighbor). Later I heard she hadn't broken up at all and thus cheated him with me. People are people everywhere, biggest difference being that some cultures allow it to happen more openly.
This is such a fascinating question to ask people from all different cultures and classes. It's deceptively simple a question but the answers are incredibly revealing. I loved this video, entertaining and compelling! 👍💯💯
By experience, I can say the max age range is 10 years. More than that it’s possible but the talk changes drastically, it becomes closer to a papakatsu relationship. I could date younger girls (-20 years gap) and when we started to talk about work, indirectly they asked if I could hire them as part of my staff. I thought it was ‘fair’ but I was not looking for employees, I was only looking for a gf lol so unless you want this kind of relationship, it’s better to stay in the max 10 years gap.
@@MissionSilo papakatsu is the Japanese word for sugar daddy. So they will see you as a rich daddy and not as a partner. It’s possible to carry this kind of relationship in Japan (and of course many other countries) but you have to be rich enough to give everything they want.

Any adult over 18 can date or hookup with any adult over 18, sometimes things can get a little weird but that's nobody's business, at 18 you can do far "worse" things than consent to dating an old guy, if you catch my meaning. A lot of times money is involved, because that's just the nature of women, but so long as it is mutually beneficial I see no problem.
I'm 30, good looking, good financially, kind/considerate, etc yet I have never had a serious relationship. It makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong Doesn't help that I travel all the time and it makes creating longer term connections nearly impossible unless she wants to escape with me.
That could be the main issue…. that you’re not rooted in 1 location to build deep connections with the locals. Granted you could meet another traveler such as yourself if you know where to look. 😉 I wish you the best sir!

@timsohn7057 I have heard from a South Korean native now living here in the US in upstate NY, that it all depends on the individuals but I have this friend and she is bisexual, not to air her dirty laundry, but she has said that she gets more younger girls flirting with her and more older men, both Asian and White, flirting with her. This video is designed to provide a genuine insight into the opinions, culture and values of a nation, it's not simple entertainment but intended as semi educational, though they are likely cherry picked, that's certainly true, I would prefer if there were arguments both for and against this arrangement, but it's not a debate. Personally I find this interesting, since as a 30yo, I would be open to a situationship with an 18yo, but I'm aware money would most likely be involved. For dating she'd have to be between 23 and a couple years older than me, I perhaps lean a little younger just because of my lifestyle, there probably aren't many women my age who likes to travel frequently and plays a lot of video games lol. Also, and I acknowledge they're consenting adults almost everywhere, but 16 is too young for me, that extra two years is important for finding oneself and becoming a confident adult.
It's important for men to realize your value is an upward climb, most likely you'll have your shxt together from your mid 30s to 40s if you weren't playing around, and you still have a chance to bag 20 year olds.

I wouldn’t use the word “bag” if you’re serious about a relationship, but what you say is completely true. Men have to work for and prove our value, while women consider themselves to have inherent value just for being born as a woman. No woman would seriously consider dating and marrying a man with no income or job that can support a family, whereas a man doesn’t care if a woman has no income or job for dating or marriage.
The problem of the age gap is mainly just a myth. It depends on the personality. Young and old can become very good friends based on common interests, compatibility and mutual respect. Everything else should just work out accordingly.
@@FransceneJK98 Actually, I agree with you. 16 years old is too young to even date with anyone. What I meant was anyone who is 18 or over. However, in some countries, it is alright for a 16 year old to date someone older.

I guessed 'Mid 20's?' my friend nodded "Yup, she's 27" he then nodded towards her partner "What about him?" I worked out from my friends question that there was an age disparity and the guy looked mid 30's so I guessed high '40? maybe 45?' maybe you should draw the line of how developed the person is. People are hitting puberty MUCH earlier. A 16 year old (especially female) is at the end or near the end of her puberty.
@@GameFuMaster I just can’t agree with this… If i ever have a daughter theres no way i would be okay with her at 16 dating anyone over 20 and even 20 is pushing it. Once shes 20 i suppose i would be a bit more open to a larger age gap but anything over 10 years is still very weird to me
I’ve always felt the most important thing is that both people feel the same age and can understand each other and adapt to each other well. Huge age gaps make that difficult, but not impossible. Once I reached mid 30’s, my priorities shifted and if I were single again it would be much more difficult to date someone in their early 20’s, but there are definitely exceptions, people with similar values, focus and sense of humor.
The last girl says it all with pretty much what most girls are thinking here in Japan. One of the reasons I feel that marriage is on a decline here in Japan is that men at her age and even my age at 29 no longer have a difference in pay gap. So women expect men to earn more or they feel they need to either do better themselves or dump the guy. It's sad because in the end it's a team effort and who earns more money is rather irrelevant and shouldn't dictate who gets more control or whatever. Whomever is better at something should just do their part, two halves make a whole. I earn less than my wife whom is the same age and she says the same thing. It's not something I can control because it doesn't matter anymore how much you are ganbatteiru by working late or devoting to your company anymore, changing jobs does increase pay but it is hard to get a raise afterwards, and skilling up won't see good returns for at least a couple of years. The salary system in Japan is broken and being stuck in a corporate world wouldn't give you the same benefits as those in the past. It's time women in Japan need to learn that we BOTH need to earn money if we want kids.
*I’m 69/35/70* Great subject! How about the rest of you? How old are you and what’s your spread? It’s irrelevant because I’m happily married, but I’m 69, would go as low as maybe 35 but no higher than 70. IMHO, most people don’t settle into who they really are until 35-40. On the older end, not so much; I find hanging out with people my age _really_ boring 😕 (This was a really great interview, the interviewer had a good sense of humor and asked good follow-up questions. I liked the length, with so many people being interviewed, seeing so many perspectives.)
From what I’m told from friends in Japan, the age limit is 16 was meant for people that were dating around their age. Like a 16 year old dating an 18 or 19 year in current relationship. Not for a 30, 40 or 50s exploiting a teenager. But then again I’m just going off what friends from Japan & my wife tell me.
The interesting thing is that even though someone says that they will never date, go out, be a couple or even marry someone much older, etc., things can change. They might meet someone that they really get along with, and like their personality so much, etc. Sometimes they say “I’ll never go out with someone 5 years older than me. But then you see them engaged to someone 10 years older then you ask them, what happened?” To their reply: he/she is so kind and amazing, I never expected to find someone like him/her, so I don’t mind his/her age. The thing is they judge at the beginning and depending someone age they put a wall in front of them towards that person, but if age is not talked about and the relationship flourishes, those previous self boundaries about age are pushed aside. It’s like when you say “I’ll never read that book, it’s gross, or useless, not interesting at all, etc, but you have only seen the cover and title/name. But later you find that book without cover and out of curiosity start to read then you like it so much than even if half-way you realize it’s title/name it won’t change that fact that you like it and want to finish it. Also you might ask those same people 5 or 10 years from now the same question and the answers might be completely different. And in a country where they are not completely open and honest with their answers (tatemae), those same answers might differ greatly behind the camera.
are you sure "leeway" is the accurate translation into English? Or would "more scope" be more accurate? Scope - definition n. 1. The range of one's perceptions, thoughts, or actions:
I'm almost 80 (I look much younger than my age) and my wife is 35. We have been together going on six years. We treat each other equally and age never comes into question. It's no different for me when I first married at age 22. Since we are like two peas in a pod, no one in our families or friends makes it an issue. BTW: Age difference in younger peeps, not so much. But, divorced/separated and older don't dwell on age so much.
My fiance is 37 and I am 27. I honestly find older guys especially if they are Japanese much more attractive. No, it wasn’t for money, we are coworkers that roughly get the same salary and both of us are very low maintenance. My argument is this, Japanese people due to living significantly longer than most of the world, do not get the “matured look” until their late 30s-40s and look really young or boyish until those ages which I personally am not very big on. I also really like the adult worldview, life experience and the fatherly protective attitude of guys this age and therefore feel much more attracted to them.
I think it's because older men tend to be seen more as romantic interest and get more attention because they're financially more stable so in turn they also become more confident.
Yes!!! I also only like much older men like that man in the video and older! You westerners need to stop push your craz y ish on every culture! I agree with a lot of the Japanese people!
How old are you and whats the oldest guy you dated or could date? I have no age limit as long as I’m attracted. I could go for much younger or even older women. As an American I’m pretty open minded about such things.
It is worth pointing out that Japanese people actually have a smaller age gap at first marriage than Americans do. But the 58 year old was creepy, come on.
When I was younger I really liked older guys. Now that I am older, I prefer younger guys... I think it is because I have a young attitude, and don't have much in common with old farts!! Lol In Japan, my boyfriend was 13yrs younger than me...but the communication was the issue rather than age. He didn't speak English, and my Japanese was beginner level. To this day I still love and miss him so much...he was an amazing guy😢
Here in the UK once I reached my 30's I suddenly had a LOT of attention from college age girls even had a few that were so forward if I let them down that they pretty much came out and told me they would sleep with me as if it would change my mind. I mean I admit I am very flattered when young often stunning girls desire me but I feel like a creep if I dated them even having a fling, I would even feel creepy if I was around 30 and they were say 19 but I'd say it was possible. These days now I am late 30's I'd possibly date a 20/21 year old but I doubt it as I feel the life gap not necessarily purely age is too big unless that 20/21 year old grew up fast i.e had experiences in their life before their time that matured them. I'd more likely go for a woman around 24/25.
When I was 37, I had a GF who's 22. I can't believe young girls still like me. LOL Then I have been with a 19 year old girl.. We dated for a year until she turned into a feminist and did facial reconstruction and got some tattoos.. I don't get her she turned goo-gogo gaga... LOL But anyways, I am glad to know that there are girls who still like me despite my age. Because I like young girls.. 18 to 26.. something like that.. because they are fun and has bubbly personality and I also feel young but with freedom.. Unlike older girls.. I feel they already have an attitude and kinda sick of life.

If "she's" in her late 20's and "pursuing" someone that's 20 plus years older that's ok too. I say that because if it was my daughter I would only be ok with it if he loves her and wants to start a family with her and therefore leave her everything too. Average age at first marriage in Japan is 29.5 for women, 31 for men - a 1.5 year age gap. All statistics show women are attracted to men who are UP TO 5 years older than themselves. It's why the age gap tends to be 2 years or less in all developed countries. Some people will cry and gnash their teeth but obviously young women like young men. "Older" man for them is, one again, up to about 5 years. The 10 year age gaps are more common when a woman is already over 30 and struggling to find someone.
A friend of mine in his mid fifties dated someone in their 20s for around 10 years. He had a stroke and was paralysed and had garbled communication and she left him after about 6 months. I guess she wanted to have a life.
Age is only a measure of our biological decline and not our maturity. There is a legal age limit to start intimate sexual relationships with a minor to protect their personal space to mature healthy and their personality to develop freely. Although it is no assurance that they will not be faced with a manipulative parent who tries to push the person into things otherwise he/she wouldn't. So, in general, I think it is healthy to be in a relationship with an older person as you will learn a lot otherwise you would waste your time by experiencing it, so our social development evolvement could reach a higher degree thanks to those organically observing information and maturity through having in a relationship with an older individual. How old is up to you I think but has nothing to do with regulations or else, it is what it is. It is also equally important for older people to learn how to be young again and we human beings tend to forget what life is about, so we mature to the point where we become super forged/matured which is unhealthy at some point. We can become lifeless or too material and so it is the main trigger to psychological diseases, like psychopathy and similar unwanted personal decline.

You rarely see this kind of couple on the street because they all met in the hotel or the mistress's home. I have a few friends did the same thing, but they are all claimed single. No one will honestly tell you their shady side in the interview under the sun.😅
That's exactly what I want, young girls sleeping with me for money

not true...Japanese women date older men all the time...Many of these men are married and these girls date them, like are their girlfriends.

Age is just a number. If two people love each other, it doesn't matter the difference in their age.

I guessed 'Mid 20's?'
my friend nodded "Yup, she's 27" he then nodded towards her partner "What about him?"
I worked out from my friends question that there was an age disparity and the guy looked mid 30's so I guessed high '40? maybe 45?'
It turned out he was in his late 60's - he had a physique that would shame a guy in his 20's and not a wrinkle or grey hair in sight.

Very cool insights
*I’m 69/35/70*
Great subject! How about the rest of you? How old are you and what’s your spread?
It’s irrelevant because I’m happily married, but I’m 69, would go as low as maybe 35 but no higher than 70. IMHO, most people don’t settle into who they really are until 35-40. On the older end, not so much; I find hanging out with people my age _really_ boring 😕
(This was a really great interview, the interviewer had a good sense of humor and asked good follow-up questions.
Wait til you learn about a little thing called porn 💀
And in a country where they are not completely open and honest with their answers (tatemae), those same answers might differ greatly behind the camera.

The age gap is not an issue in my experience, neither is marital status. 😅
LOL
Then I have been with a 19 year old girl.. We dated for a year until she turned into a feminist and did facial reconstruction and got some tattoos.. I don't get her she turned goo-gogo gaga... LOL
But anyways, I am glad to know that there are girls who still like me despite my age. Because I like young girls.. 18 to 26.. something like that.. because they are fun and has bubbly personality and I also feel young but with freedom.. Unlike older girls.. I feel they already have an attitude and kinda sick of life.

13 because of "Romeo and Juliette" type situations. Not for adults to mess with children. And generally the age of adulthood in Japan was 20.
Wow! Had no idea!

Nah not more than 10 Years younger or older than me (45). That's my Age-Range that i'm looking for. I once dated an 18 Year old Woman when i was 32 and it went horribly wrong. I don't need that anymore. I either find someone who's 10 Years younger or older than me. Otherwise i'll keep looking. Or stay Single 'till the End of my Life, which to be honest wouldn't be sooo bad. Just my two Cents...
This is interesting for so many reasons. おつかれさま
