I never thought I would find the voice of a man who is dressed as a pirate and describing Japanese face masks to me so relaxing

Humility. "I'm not an expert". Then later we find he did Japanese armor illustrations for a museum publication.

The menpo in my opinion the most badass looking mask, and I think it can even scare away some viruses like Covid.

Nice collection! I'm starting out on a bad foot, as I have learned the hard way buying replicas on eBay that were labeled antique.

The bigger reason they remove the nose part of the armor is because someone is gonna grab the mask and that pointy part of the nose armor would do damage to the face, so in hand to hand combat they would remove it.

Great videos! I am contemplating getting a kabuto tattoo as part of my sleeve. Could you link the books?

Is "main" part of menpo made of a single piece, or two pieces of steel? I mean some of them have so deep and pointy chins that it would take so many extra hours to make, that making it from 2 pieces would be logical (1st piece for cheeks and under the mouth, and 2nd piece for chin). Most of them would be quite easy to make in one piece, but others are not. On some of them you can even see like they are made of 2 pieces, but they are smooth from the inside, and since Japanese armor is laquered you often can't see how it's really made. Does anyone have any info about this?

It’s really sad you bought the armor that went with some of them but sold them in pieces. I firmly believe historical artifacts like this should stay together for research purposes. But since they’re all separated it’s not worth studying anymore. Very sad you separated those pieces from their originals. That’s not very ethical and none of those pieces can be studied professionally anymore.
