I remember when me and the wife and kids ate there almost 11 years ago. What a great experience and such good food. Still have pictures of our small kiddos wearing the complimentary straw hats that their food was served in. God Bless Texas!
I've had the pleasure of visiting The Big Texan twice heading west on my way through Amarillo on Route 66...i always stop and pay my respects to the 72 ounce steak display!
A few years as go, on my way to Springfield, Missouri from LA, I stopped off at the Big Texan. I didn't do the 72" steak, but enjoyed their steak sandwich. I may try it sometime in the future 🤠 when I get back to the Lone Star State
I wanna say it was Aug, 2006 when me and my dad stopped there coming back a little town north of Amarillo, had to take care of my uncle's house and leftover belongings from his passing, lived to be way up in the 80's his wife too, very somber trip, but the visit to the big Texan gave us something to talk about on the way home and 24oz cooked weight ribeye I had with b.p. loaded and salad with probably 6 of those soft honey buttered rolls and multiple sweet tea refills was delicious!
I ate the steak for the Tee shirt and when I got done they said they were out of shirts!!!! That was in January 22 2002. Look it up!!! They mailed me the shirt. I am number 7655
@Sean Embry Agreed. It's very sad that many businesses treat customers that way. I always prefer to do business with businesses that take the old-fashioned approach to customer service and honor their word.
They have signs along I-40 long before reaching Amarillo. The last time I drove cross country on I-40 a couple of decades back, I saw a Big Texan sign after leaving Fort Smith, Arkansas.
I live in Amarillo and I've gotta say, you can definitely get a better steak just about anywhere you go. They made this place as a tourist attraction for people out of town. We went there and got a steak a few years ago and it was like it had been microwaved. And full of gristle. Just because it's a big steak, doesn't mean it's a good steak
I had same experience, If you want a good steak this place can't hold a candle to Texas Roadhouse, and they are cheaper, and you get a free bag of peanuts to take home. The Big Texan is more hipe than good service kinda a tourist trap with all the signs on the highway. If they spent as much on quality food and service as they do on advertising maybe there food would be a little better. Like my mom always told me you can tell a clean kitchen by the way they keep there bathrooms clean.
This is already on my bucket list, not to challenge the 72 oz'er but just to eat there and enjoy the atmosphere AND get one of those dinner plates with their name on it ... all the way from Hawaii hope to one day ...
They have a real life Western Diamondback Rattlesnake in the giftshop as well in the glass case. Now that's Texan. Oh and I hail from Houston, Texas Steaks and Rattlesnakes
I HAVE A REALLY FUNNY STORY ABOUT THIS PLACE. I went there more than 10 years ago. I was on my way to Vegas and stopped. I heard of the place before and knew of the 72oz challenge. I walked in and they say me down. I told my server I wanted the 72oz steak with all the fixins'. They said I needed to sit up on the stage to take the challenge. I told them, "No no. I just want to order it. I don't want to be in the contest. I will gladly pay for it". They get the manager. Manager tells me no one has ever done that before. I just told the, it was not a contest for me and that I just want to sit down and enjoy the steak and my dinner. Well four hours later I was done then went back to my car and took a long nap. Everyone at the Big Texan was great but were confused why I didn't want to take the contest. I guess they failed to realize I was there for steak, not to get something for free.
He'll learn the hard way like my uncle did he was about 350 lb had a heart attack he's never been the same. Some people no matter what you say or do they're going to do what they want. No matter what cost
used to work near there had just about everything there over time. all very good espcially for a tourist joint. you wouldnt expect it but the prime rib was the best.
I came to the big Texan with my wife as we were passing through with a tour When it came to ordering I ordered a steak and my wife ordered chicken, CHICKEN. I had to advise her that if Texans can’t do steak than there is no hope for the rest of the world. She wouldn’t listen and later tried to steal some of my steak as she didn’t like the chicken lol.
I have been so hungry many time over the years and I dreamed of that steak in my dreams i could have ate that thing and licked the plate. of course there there is no way i could ever eat that thing. I have ate at the big Texan many times but just regular size meals..
One time in around the 1980s, my grandad ate a large steak called "The Bullshipper", which was a 50 oz steak at Trail Dust Steakhouse. (I obviously wasn't born yet but my mom and nana told me about it.)
I used to live in Amarillo and the Big Texan only had average steaks. You were much better off taking a road trip and going to Cattlemen's in OKC. Big Texan steaks have a lot of gristle and I'm not sure what grade they are.
I completed it Twice, first time 1988 47 minutes and again in 1990 39 minutes. It's not hard to do. I spent two previous day's prior, eating big meals to stretch out my stomach. Was very easy to finish.
Been there several times as I go back and forth across country on I-40 and I got to tell you folks it's worth the trip it is a must-see must-do place on your way across this great land we call America and is great for the kids too and I swear to God the ribs are like from a freaking dinosaur oh my goodness they're so great when I saw the ribs I said what in the hell is this and one rib one rib I was full of one freaking rib I swear to you! This crap that they give you at these so-called where places are stuff off of a damn dog or something but the stuff in the Big Texan when you really want some ribs go to The Big Texan because they got ribs done the right way beef my friends beef ribs the only way to go! Tell them Big Mack Sent You!
Bad experience for us though steak and over cooked, bake potatoes were like they were cooked the night before. Ask waitress for butter and steak sauce and ten minutes later had to get it myself. Shouldn't have left a tip, but we learn by mistakes, if not good the first time never go back.
The way you built it up, I was expecting an epic fail... Well done, that was impressive. Reminded me of The Great Outdoors!
I remember when me and the wife and kids ate there almost 11 years ago. What a great experience and such good food. Still have pictures of our small kiddos wearing the complimentary straw hats that their food was served in. God Bless Texas!
I remember when I took you wife and kids there too! Life comes at ya quick (haha).
I've had the pleasure of visiting The Big Texan twice heading west on my way through Amarillo on Route 66...i always stop and pay my respects to the 72 ounce steak display!
These side dishes is what attracts me, Americans are creative in these side dishes...
Me and my dad stopped here 20 years ago from Louisiana on the way to California...the food was awesome.
You a Cajun food fan?
This is a great experience. Even if you dont get the big steak I highly recommend this restaurant. Best time in a long time.
Food ain't no contest. Just enjoyment.
A few years as go, on my way to Springfield, Missouri from LA, I stopped off at the Big Texan. I didn't do the 72" steak, but enjoyed their steak sandwich. I may try it sometime in the future 🤠 when I get back to the Lone Star State
John Candy did 6 lbs. The ole 96er!
Including the gristle.... Best scene ever. 😂💯😂
@@JA-SF2TX HE'S NOT DONE 🤣
Loved that movie! 😂
And a dessert!
It's worth it! Great atmosphere and a great steak dinner under $20.
I was there in 92 for a gun show. I ate it on a Friday night and missed the gun show on Saturday.
I’ve been there a few times and one guy who was about 6’3” and weighed about 190 pounds ate the whole meal in about 45 minutes. Crazy but true.
Thats really cute = little skinny molly schuyler did 2 in that same time.
Clearly he starved himself before the event
I completed the challenge March of 2006 I was full for 2 days
Did you really? Wow! That's amazing dude! Did you get sick or were you just fine?
😂
That's completely awesome, congrats Robert!
I could eat 10 ounces and the potato and be done.
I wanna say it was Aug, 2006 when me and my dad stopped there coming back a little town north of Amarillo, had to take care of my uncle's house and leftover belongings from his passing, lived to be way up in the 80's his wife too, very somber trip, but the visit to the big Texan gave us something to talk about on the way home and 24oz cooked weight ribeye I had with b.p. loaded and salad with probably 6 of those soft honey buttered rolls and multiple sweet tea refills was delicious!

good to see that you're still alive.
Well said!
@Sean Embry Agreed. It's very sad that many businesses treat customers that way. I always prefer to do business with businesses that take the old-fashioned approach to customer service and honor their word.
Ditch the meat and save me.
Congratulations now you most welcomed to Texas . I don't think I could do it .
I'll take a prime 16oz ribeye over a 72oz top sirloin any day of the week!
18oz prime rib
Same here buddy, best 24oz ribeye ever.. love that place..
56 oz tomahawk was the way to go for me
Absolutely ❤️. 16 Oz. RibEye 🥩 is my Go To Perfect Size Steak 🥩. $10.00. And I grilll them on GrillGrates Over Mesquite Fire. Absolutely Amazing.
Too cool. Once in a life time. You be full for days😂🇺🇸
been there several times... don't forget the Boom-Boom Cabaret just down the street. ))
Been there twice. Both times on west bound cross country trips. Always fun.
That huge cow at 0:49 used to be at Sirloin Stockade in Corpus Christi, Texas. it was sold for $2800.
There's still one at the Sirloin Stockade in Ardmore, OK, too!
Staples and Weber!
We had one like it at the Sirloin Stockade in Jefferson City, MO back in the early '70's.
There's lots of those cows around
When I'm passn thru Amarillo during daylight busniess hours, I gota stop and eat here, looks delicious, ❤️😁🤠🌞🌟👍
They have signs along I-40 long before reaching Amarillo. The last time I drove cross country on I-40 a couple of decades back, I saw a Big Texan sign after leaving Fort Smith, Arkansas.
I wish i lived there, so much nice food, my flab is tingling!!
Love this channel!
I've been there many times, but never had the courage to try that challenge. Definitely try the Mountain Oysters. That's good eating.
We have had the pleasure of visiting twice from Tennessee. Food is great with a fun atmosphere. Nope didn't even think of trying the big one!
Enjoy eating here! I’ve eat here 20 times steak sometimes not to good but that’s life. Great fun place to stop
We may be Nevadan (we lived in Texas too)but it is the best we had from Vegas to the Keys- we will be back

Damn! You did it! That would have fed a family of five LOL
1 thing I can say about TEXAS is they don't cheap out on there meat
The motel on the east side of the restaurant is a great place to stay if you are trailering horses they have an overnight corral.
This is already on my bucket list, not to challenge the 72 oz'er but just to eat there and enjoy the atmosphere AND get one of those dinner plates with their name on it ... all the way from Hawaii hope to one day ...
That’s a place’s to go and visit, and have a great time and a great steak.
Has Shawn made a episode in Texas breakfast places? These are great
There's a place in Wichita Falls called the "Sun Rise and shine Grill." That was a phenomenal breakfast and didn't cost an arm and a leg.
You look like John Candy in the Great Outdoors movie at the end. Sweating but got that t-shirt and a free steak.
They have a real life Western Diamondback Rattlesnake in the giftshop as well in the glass case. Now that's Texan. Oh and I hail from Houston, Texas
Steaks and Rattlesnakes
Been there, tried that, didn’t finish it. Halfway through, I thought “I got this !” Ten minutes later something said “Really ??” 🤢🇺🇸🇺🇸

this guy has gained 100 pounds since he started the show 😂
Albert Rojas that’s what I just told my wife!
Did he really?
LOL😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
He'll learn the hard way like my uncle did he was about 350 lb had a heart attack he's never been the same. Some people no matter what you say or do they're going to do what they want. No matter what cost
He gained 5 pounds on that one meal
Did it in 1985, got apple pie a-la-mode for dessert!
used to work near there had just about everything there over time. all very good espcially for a tourist joint. you wouldnt expect it but the prime rib was the best.
Glad you completed the challenge 👍🏽💯%
I would probably puke after just the steak lol!
Yall are being so civilized about I would pick that steak up with my hands and start ripping it to pieces
wow, didn't think you were gonna eat that all. nice job. i see those meat sweats lol.
About halfway through, I thought he was going to tap out. I was very surprised and happy that he was able to finish the challenge.
yeah! that's a serious amount of steak. good for him.
🤣😂 He got the meat sweats!!!
I subscribe today! Good Quality Video, swear I was on a cable network!
I stopped there to eat when I was driving a truck in 96, and I’m convinced I can eat that meal in 2 days.
Just remember that Molly Schuyler ate 3 of these meals in 20 minutes lol she is a true beast and weighs around 115 pounds.
But then throws it up right after....... Thats not eating it
@@bigetnt Idk man you eat 14 pounds of meat you accomplished the goal. Might not be all that great to digest 20-30k calories of meat
You mean 132.5 pounds temporarily, Lol!
@Phil Fry Right you are my friend!
Watching her speed eat makes me wanna vomit
6:11 .. the "meat sweats" kick in and BAMM .. it's over
I believe it. You done good Shaun.
Went there last night steak was great! cool place!
Ate there a few times while I was OTR... just down the road is The Boom-Boom Cabaret... or so they tell me. ; )
Congrats 👏 man.
Oh my wife gonna kill me. Too funny! " You ate all of that and still got your $72 back"?!
Well done to all who have completed this!
On a side note how long before your next meal?...were you hungry after 24hrs?
I came to the big Texan with my wife as we were passing through with a tour
When it came to ordering I ordered a steak and my wife ordered chicken, CHICKEN. I had to advise her that if Texans can’t do steak than there is no hope for the rest of the world. She wouldn’t listen and later tried to steal some of my steak as she didn’t like the chicken lol.
Texas does have good chicken though, but we are a true beef state! (I was born in Dallas btw)
@@williamsutcliffe3505 I’m certain they do good chicken mate but she clearly messed up with this particular order lol
You from Australia? just curious
I have been so hungry many time over the years and I dreamed of that steak in my dreams i could have ate that thing and licked the plate. of course there there is no way i could ever eat that thing. I have ate at the big Texan many times but just regular size meals..
Wow you did it, Amazing.
We enjoyed our visit last month.
Don't forget to bring Alka Seltzer with you...you're gonna need it.
7:10 NO WAY!!!! AWESOME!!!

where can i get one of those embroidered shirts
I love their tartat sauce too. So yummy
Some skinny chick that was like 125 pounds finished it when I was there recently.
Damage, Inc. skinny chicks can sometimes hold a bunch of meat !
A little ok lady in her 70's polished one off in record time once too
how tender is the steak? would all the chewing get tiring though if it wasn't tender. the great outdoors with john candy pops in my head. lol
I used to live in Amarillo and the Big Texan only had average steaks. You were much better off taking a road trip and going to Cattlemen's in OKC. Big Texan steaks have a lot of gristle and I'm not sure what grade they are.
Boogie2988 ate a 72oz steak there a long time ago, hes on the hall of fame as Steve "boogie" Williams
metal

Matt Stonie and Randy Santel would kill this challenge
Well done Number 9173!
Man vs Food. Man won.🏆
We have Bryan’s Steaks in Lubbock Texas
Cuz in 20mins thats when our brain tells us that we are full and too late to realized we ate too much.
I completed the job February of 1978
Nice work
My gouty foot would look like a football if I eat that.
I tried and I failed...miserably lol. It's a touristy place but I have always enjoyed stopping in...the food is meh, but there is a lot to see.
Dude I know it's been years but, Congrats 😊
Good on him.
I wouldn’t even try the contest but I’d take one for a three day meal.
I've thought about having my stomach stapled. But.........I think I'll wait until after I try to make the record!!!!

Good Job!!!!!
35 minutes, that's all I need....
how much is the 72oz steak sell for on the menu...
I think it's $72 now (for everything)
I get 'The Cowboy' at Cattleman's, and that's more than enough, and it's less than half the size of this!
LOL that’s awesome!!!
I would love to try it but I’m allergic to shrimp
Great job Shane! You're very full and $72 ahead. You won't find that in Las Vegas!
All I need is a couple blunts. And bam. Challenge won!
Good job man
Awesome!
Good going, great job! Hooah!
Did I detect a fair dinkum Aussie accent giving some advice to loosen his belt?
He is right though! Texas attracts all with her beauty and scenery!

I tried the challenge in 1998 and tapped out with 20 minutes left. Steak was good but it was just too much for me. lol. Great times.
Hell l can't go. There
I wanna go there so bad!!!!
Great content! I just posted my own Big Texan Steak Challenge and I think I beat your time 😝
Loved the experience! 🥩 Happy eating!!
20 minutes ? Molly Schuyler ate 3 x 72oz in 20 minutes.
