  • In this video we review the brand new 2024 Toyota Tacoma in TRD Off-Road trim. We go over the new powertrain, interior space, styling and more.
Toyota has entirely revised the new Tacoma for 2024 from the seating position to the styling, and we need to find out if this is still the truck that is going rule midsize segment sales.

Keep up the great work on all these reviews, nice to have a Canadian centric channel bringing all the latest reviews. I used to see Howard on motoring TV back in the day and appreciated his straight forward, pragmatic take in his reviews. This channel is a great evolution in automotive reviews allowing the much needed long form review to get through everything that needs to be touched on.

I would like to congratulate you and your team. I wasn't the biggest fan when you first came out. But the quality of your presentations have gone up exponentially in a very short time to being probably one of my favourite automotive/truck channels in the entire TH-cam universe.
I would tell you to stop improving now, for fear of you growing into some God awful sales pitch of sponsorship for 47% of your show, but it seems to me, going from where you were to were you are, you probably don't need anyone's advice and have a clear vision of what you want your channel to be.
Well as it stands, I digging it. I enjoy the honesty, sincerity and knowledge from truck guys from my neck of the woods.
Cheers and best wishes for continued success!

I have a 2021 TRD Sport now and have put a $500 deposit on the 2024 TRD OffRoad 6ft bed. I usually buy a new truck every 10-12 years but I feel that the new gen Tacoma is just that good to replace my 3-4 year(by the time it’s available) truck. I would probably keep my 2021 if it had the 6 ft. bed.

I have watched 10 videos on the new Tacoma and the video you all put together has been my favorite so far. You all got a new subscriber great job!
Really quick, my motivation for watching all the new videos as I have a 2000 Tacoma TRD Off-Road MT access cab I bought brand new in 2000 now has 381,217 miles as of today on it. I tried to buy a 2020 Tacoma and my head banged into the a-pillar discovering that Toyota had lowered the roof line dramatically over the 2000 model. At 6 foot 1 I couldn't fit in the last truck. This new truck looks awesome and they have made it possible for normal sized people to fit in it, so I am very excited to finally get a new Tacoma once again.

I had been wanting a Tacoma for decades. Finally went and test drove one and when I put my kids car seat in the back it basically wouldn’t let anyone sit in the front. I test drove the Tundra just to try it out and I’m now the owner of a 2023 Tundra SR5. More room, more power, more towing, more comfortable.

    I have an 06 Tacoma.
Still works great with no major problems.
Biggest issue I had was front wheel bearings replacement at around 120,000 miles and replaced water pump and fuel pump at around 160,000 miles.
Never let the fuel tank go below 1/4 because the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel itself.
Faulty Fuel pump symptoms are as follows: engine seems to turn on and off with brisk acceleration like when you are merging onto the highway, you can give it full throttle and vehicle will accelerate no problem. No Toyota dealers or local shops could diagnose the fuel pump so I replaced it myself and the acceleration issue was fixed.

What stopped me from buying one these from the last generation in 2015 was the driving position, fear of frame rust ,mpgs and, weak payload. It seems like they have cured these issues. Now the new issue will be working the bugs out of this one with in the next couple of years when im ready to buy another new midsize truck. I try to get 10 or 10 + Years out of my vehicles if possible.

@@marklihsu In all honesty I believe toyota reliability is hype. There good trucks but I've been around alot of trucks in work and off road environments and I don't believe there any better than the others they just get worked less making them get more miles. Not many toyota's idling on construction sites around the clock in logging woods oil fields or pulling heavy loads or ranching or farming. Toyota's demographics are much easier on trucks.

Great review gents. I'm with Howard in one big way. Back in 2020 when I was shopping for a new truck, I really wanted a Tacoma for its overall size to get down trails easier, for easier parking, etc. But I just could not do it because of what Howard points out; I just could not get a comfortable fit in that awful seating position. So that forced me into the Tundra. I love my 2020 Tundra, but I really do get tired of the issues the size of it brings with it. This new Tacoma might just fix that for me, but I'm still going to have to give it a year or so to make sure there are no bugs to work out.

Very good review. I don't like turbo engines but this one is very efficient. Greetings

based on what? the 4 cyl turbo only gets maybe 1 mile per gallon better fuel economy than the v6!! mpg while towing will be horrendous!!

Is the wireless charger crap like the gen3? lol. I like the truck but not the power train. I got a new 23 TRD off road 4x4 for $38k. I had a 21 SR5 4x4 too….. awesome trucks.

This truck is now essentially a coil sprung Hilux.

From all the reviews I've watched,it seems like they actually done good by the Tacoma. Maybe they should get the Tacoma engineer to work on other vehicles (like maybe the new 4Runner) as well.

Please make sure to review in your next TRD review the actual suspension travel changes (or lack of) that allegedly Toyota did not change as opposed to what Ford is doing on their extreme off-roaders versions. If true it seems Toyota would have caught some corners.

Mobile detailers and construction workers, painters, etc. they laborers are always loaded all the time. The new Tacoma has thicker springs on the SR you stand corrected.

I’m surprised they handed you the truck to test in an environment and terrain that are drastically different than their controlled Southern California course, at the same time as their big So-Cal reveal event. I look forward to seeing your off-road review.
Without the hybrid and without an upgraded JBL system, could that under-seat rear storage caddy be removed and the back floor area flattened out a bit? My dog’s getting up in years and I’d like to keep a relatively flat, comfortable area for him like I have in my Silverado - except obviously a smaller area than the Silverado. I’m thinking of downsizing from the Silverado to a mid-size and the Tacoma is the front runner right now, I just want to wait and watch for a while as they work out the first model year kinks. I’ll be curious to see the off-road segment and fuel economy of the non-hybrid as well as the hybrid, and then make a determination.
You have a 2024 Tacoma OR in your hands. Do you have a 21-23 TRD Pro or a 22-23 Frontier Pro4X handy to do a capability head-to-head?

The TRD Offroad has always been my preferred Tacoma trim, but the 2020 long bed I owned briefly had lots of problems. I sold it after just a year because it was so uncomfortable and annoying to drive, so I'm glad to see that they seem to have addressed a lot of those annoyances. I thought they were discontinuing the long bed like all the other brands did, so I was very surprised to see this. I would have held off from purchasing my 2023 Pro4x if I'd known the Tacoma long bed was returning. I might consider trading the Pro4x for a TRD Offroad long bed, but I expect the price with options will be downright offensive. We'll see...

We are planning to get Land Cruiser 2024, however it is not in the market yet. Since Land Cruiser shares the same platform and engine (except hybrid) with Tacoma, what do you have to say about Land Cruiser comparison with Tacoma? Is V4 turbo engine reliable over long kms?
