4.0 is Dolby Pro Logic; left, center, right, & rear [mono]. That's why rear channel speakers were out of phase, to help spread the single channel to create surround sound. Subwoofer could be added by speaker line in from the front channels. All the best in 2021!
Preordered this the day it came up, was happy with Arrows previous work and absolutely love Tremors. Not disappointed at all, this version is an astronomical visual upgrade over the old bluray.
Watched this last night. Great movie, pretty good transfer, the only scenes that stood out as being a bit weak was the initial opening shot and the couple of indoor shots of chan's store. Everything else looked cushty
I concur wholeheartedly with this review, I’d preordered on a whim and was really impressed across the board when it landed with me last week. Really great quality filmic image throughout, great extras and interesting commentary without even touching disc 2 or the high quality packaging.

I preordered on Amazon. It got pushed back to ship to me until sometime in January. A little bit of a bummer, but I’m so flush with new stuff to watch it’s ok. Great review, as always!!
Mine probably wont come till Jan as well but I got it at deepdiscount at the last sec before it became backordered and probably sold out with a 10% off code at $33.38 total. It will be worth the wait at that price.
The best rerelease of tremors. Tons of bonus features, 2 awsome double sided posters and lots of other stuff like the post cards and a nice great book too. It's the perfect rerelease.
The 2.0 is meant to be decoded in Dolby surround so you get left, right, center and surround. If you’re only listening in stereo, you’re not hearing how the 2.0 is encoded. The 4.0 is most likely the discreet Dolby surround mix. Between those 2, the 2.0 decoded in Dolby surround usually would be the better choice.
i bought the vhs, i bought the dvd, i bought the bluray....but i'm sorry a film like this just does NOT NEED 4k.....with a lot of these older movies, it's all about squeezing more and more money from all the physical media fans of us out there......your channel is fantastic by the way, your narrative is always interesting and informative....keep on keepin on!!!
I pre-ordered mine when a commentator mentioned it in October or November. I just got the Blu-ray version a few days ago but the 4K version came about a week-and-a-half before that. Yes, I bought both versions because I've been waiting for this for at least 15 years and IDGAF. Fun fact: the coupon for Chang's market is for 50% off but is ineligible for any of the types of products sold in the store. I like that touch.
The problem with noticeable grain is that at home we are a lot closer to the screen and it takes you out of the movie. It doesnt help the immersion while watching the film.
$70?! That’s why I don’t really collect boutique stuff. I got the Arrow Video Flash Gordon 4K disc on eBay for $5 and just put it with my old blu ray. I try to only buy the fancy stuff for movies I absolutely love
I preordered this from Amazon months ago and they are telling me it won't arrive until the end of Jan. -_- When they ship it it better include all of the goodies.
Hey Jeff, when they say that this a “limited edition”, does that mean that once this set is gone, that’s it, the 4K is no longer available? Or will there later be a more affordable standalone/basic 4K of this movie?
Usually they release a normal version later but it always feels like a risk that they might not. I'm not sure if that ever happened. I think they release the expensive Special Edition first so people who can't wait or are scared pre-order it right away. This drove me to buy quite a few expensive Special Editions. In all cases a standard release followed a few months later.
I expect given its age it ese available in quadraphonic sound. Hence the 4.0 mix. Given we have 5.1 at home though I'm unsure how well it would translate to a 5.1 setup.
@2:24 I'm afraid you used screencaps from the old bluray... you can clearly see all the DNR, saturated colors and heavy edge enhancement that made that edition one of the most hated movie transfers ever (people had to track down a slightly less DNR-heavy version that was included in the "Attack Pack" collection!). The new UHD transfer, as you said, is beautifully natural and grainy.
I hope Arrow will also start bringing out multinational editions with subtitels for all the languages on the European continent (Portugese, French, Dutch, Swedisch, Polish...) I am fine but many of us can't speak much more than our own language. Universal always did editions for like everybody's language. I do understand it's harder for a smaller company like Arrow.

I notice this film is also on Peacock as well, does anybody know if the 4K Blu-Ray picture is better or on par with the streaming version?
This 4K Blu-ray will have a much better picture than the streaming version, the one on Peacock probably isn't even the new transfer of the film, plus discs are always better quality than the equivalent stream.

Wow! I'm amazed you don't know what the 4.0 mix's are. When the studio's covert some old sound formats into are modern consumer sound formats they translate into ex: 5.0 or 4.0 or 2.0 ect.. In the case of Tremors it's 4.0 Theatrical formats that translate into modern 4.0 are Mag Stereo Cinemascope Dolby Dolby SR & 70mm Six-Track Dolby Todd-AO these all = 4.0 in modern sound formats from your AV receiver. For instance Star Wars in the theater was 70mm Six Track Dolby (Baby Boom) which if handled properly at home would be a Dolby Digital 4.1 but it isn't handled well for home and we'll never get this sound track but that's a hole other topic. But Tremors is and they give us the 4.0 so it's not just the 2.0 that's the theatrical audio as you put it but also the 4.0 as well, another movie were they've given us the 4.0 on 4k is Predator. I love seeing the 4.0 option cause I know it's the original 70mm audio. Alien is another example but it had the 4.0 back on a Laserdisc release and has never been released again for a modern format Blu-ray or 4k.
I can't understand people who hate grain on 35mm films.
Me too. Films look terrible when they artificially remove it. Just no.
@Daniel Nye Naw film grain sucks on games.
I like it. Makes it feel like a movie
I wish that they would come out twister in 4k with Atmos and DTS X sound decodes
